It's typical Tomino, meaning very mediocre and somehow less than the sum of its parts but people will tell you you just didn't get all the subtle details, when in reality Tomino's works pretty much only move forward ever due to expositional dialogue.

Yep that's the point the plot completely went over my head too. I've been planning to rewatch it but I can't get mecha anime like I used too. I love all the suits. I wish they got more gunpla. Did anyone ver upload the mobile suit variations stuff?

Great mechanical designs and solid worldbuilding, shit pacing and a somewhat muddled plot.

I'd like to think that if Tomino would have solid it as a two season long show and had that extra time, it would have been a much better series. The same basic story could have been told, but the extra time could have solved the pacing issues and allowed for a more nuanced story.

I marathoned it some months back, It's ok. Could have used someone to clean up the script or maybe the subs were just shit, Tomino's direction was ok at best. The narrative was kinda muddled. He did better with King Gainer IMO. That show had a very similar start to G-Reco with them not really explaining any of the terms and trying to create his own sense of "culture" within the world IMO.

The way it was edited led to some weird pacing problems, like I understood what was going on because most characters would straight up say it but it was flipping between scenes kinda rapidly.

I don't get the complaints about the factions though, there are only 4 relevant "military" factions and one of them was contracted by the third.

So then he had to change a lot of things so that what happens on screen corresponds to what the characters had to do. So the original scenario disappeared. Nothing in there states that he mess anything up dumbfuck just like with most anime production he winded up changing things that wasn't in the original scenario.
