The Federation killed his older brother who was in a POW camp when they tortured him to try to find information about his unit before they could escape the Earth sphere. Gato was in this unit. He never saw his brother again and only found out after the war ended. While leading a raid on a Federation supply convoy, he found the officer who was in charge of the camp along with some of the POWs who were being transferred to Side 3 as part of a prisoner exchange program, who all informed him his brother had died to protect him and his last words were Sieg Zeon.

Gato's loyalty to Delaz's movement was cemented. The hate towards the Federation he had been fermenting since the defeat at A Baoa Qu was now burning like a star.
