Is Full Metal Panic! any good in the mecha action department? I'm on episode 3 and it seems to be more of a awkward boy goes to high school slice of life story.
And I'm coming from watching some damn good Gundam series too, so I'm spoiled after watching all those epic battles in Unicorn, 08th MS Team, and F91.
I really hope this show doesn't become a big let down.

>Is Full Metal Panic! any good in the mecha action department?
Nope. The what little mecha action there is is not very exciting. Its a show you stay for the humor and characters instead of the action. It gets better once you move past the first season into Fumoffu and the Second Raid but they have even less mecha fights.
The bit in the desert had a decent fight iirc
>>14707468
That sucks, I guess I'll just finish it then, I don't like to abandon a series once I get into it. After I'm done do you know of good mecha animes that have lots of intense action?
>>14707491
Don't abandon it. Like this >>14707489 said there's a series a episodes in the middle focused entirely on mecha action but the show is primarily focused on character based humor and drama.
>>14707491
I'd the say first FMP anime is pretty terrible for action. The Second Raid is much better for that.
>>14707455
No it's garbage.
>>14707536
Great, I made a horrible mistake
>>14707543
Eh, I like it
>Unicorn
>8th MS Team
>F91
>epic
>damn good
*snickers*
>>14707491
>>14707543
If all you care about is mecha action then why don't you just watch clips of fight scenes from different mecha anime on youtube? You clearly don't care about anything else.
>>14707502
>character based humor
and by character based humor we mean
>BAKA SOSUKE
>FAN WHACK
>>14707631
please tell me a good one to watch! im open for recommendations
>>14707641
i like a good military story even if it involves young main characters, not high school students acting retarded because they cant fit in
>>14707709
And yet your favorite shows are Gundam. lol
>>14707706
If you're just watching for action and don't care about plot or characters, there's Macross Plus and 0083.
>>14707709
Have you tried VOTOMs?
>>14707968
I only watched Dubbed animes because I'm a lazy fucktard who doesnt want to read subtitles. I'm a faggot.
>>14707977
>FMP dub
Oh jesus that explains everything
>>14707981
I dunno, the dub's actually pretty solid as far as dubs go
>>14707981
can you um recommend I me a good good anime watch cause me brain no work gud on finding the ones that r t gud for skool?
>>14707647
that's not the only thing Gatoh's humor is good for - there's a lot of weird jokes based around referencing Western films and shit he likes.
He goes on to "perfect" this by Amaburi, which is him indulging all his weird fucking jokes
>>14707981
>>14708027
The FMP dub is pretty solid. Sosuke's VA plays the clueless autist well, Kaname sounds angry, Hunter is the lovable asshole, Tessa's smart but sweet, and Mao or whatever her name is is combat-bitch.
>>14707455
I found the action OK, although it is more character focused.
I'm reading the all manga series, having watched all the anime series several years ago. A lot of unique content in them so far.
>>14708027
>>14708077
I couldn't stand Miss Chidori's friend's voice
>>14708126
Yeah she's annoying, but Souske is aces
>>14708128
That's very true, but I'm a wimp
>>14708043
You're lucky that this thread is here, FMP is a good good anime.
>>14707455
When the last season rolls out the mecha action may be amped up.
>Tokyo battle.
>Arena Battles
>Savage vs M9
>Mexico raid
>Laevatein debut
>Merida Isalnd raid
>Nuke Silo raid
>Belial vs Laevatein
That's just from the novels. Gatoh may add more anime-only content like what he did in the first season and TSR.
>>14707543
that reminds me, anyone have a gif of Heero stabbing that Aires with the Wing's shield?
>>14707455
TSR is where the show shifts more towards mecha action, and is a pretty damn enjoyable watch.
Honestly, the first season of FMP is pretty mediocre. Fumoffu! and The Second Raid are huge, huge improvements over it.
>>14707981
Eh, for an early 2000s dub by ADV, it's alright. Doesn't have you trying to rip your ears out like their Nadesico dub or something.
Except the faggot OP already said hes only watching for mechs. Fumoffu has zero mech fights.
Pretty good if you nut up and just watch the full thing
>>14711074
>Forgetting about Bonta-Kun
>>14711985
some real good photoshop there
>>14707977
This is a bad habit, but I'll recommend War in the Pocket anyway because in nice
currently making my way through Fumoffu and I am enjoying it way more than the show
>>14716450
Fumoffu is the high point of the franchise.
>>14716456
Eh, Im inclined to disagree. There's a good number of funny bits, sure but far too much of it is the same tired anime cliches we've seen time and time again.
>>14716450
Remember that Fumofu is canon and characters refer back to events from it. Also read Sigma
>>14716456
Nah, that's TSR
I had a choice to between the FMP sequels and Dougram, and I chose Dougram because I liked VOTOMS more than FMP.
I should go for Fumoffu! after Dougram for something involving the fun FMP cast to wind down from Dougram's seriousness.
(Before you say "Watch them all at once!", I prefer to watch one series at a time so it's easier for me to keep track of what's going on in the show)
>>14716487
Sigma was pretty good plus they made the Codarl even better
>>14716497
>TSR
>best anything
>10 episodes of bad melodrama
>only 5 minutes of mecha action in total
>Nothing of importance actually happens that season other than Sousuke realizing the obvious
Gates antics were the only thing worth watching that season.
>>14716600
and it was still more the first season had to offer
OVA is the best of course but it's all pretty good imo
>>14716600
The twins and the guy who trained them were cool.
>>14707455
>>14707491
>comparing the action in movies and OVAs to TV shows
You will never be satisfied with that attitude.
>>14707940
0083 has great characters though, including Monsha.
>>14717329
No it fucking didn;t
Is it weird that I liked season 1 more than TSR?
TSR seemed rushed to me, even with more action, things felt all over the place.
Maybe I need to re-watch it or something.
>>14722797
I just finished TSR and I prefer it over S1. It definietely had a rushed pacing, especially with how they only started explaining things in the 2nd to last episode.
I kinda wish it was a bit more padded out with stuff like the OVA just to give the characters some more life and downtime, but I understand that it would have conflicted with the more "urgent" sense that they were trying to setup after Sousuke was reassigned.
>>14722797
>Is it weird that I liked season 1 more than TSR?
Season 1 had more to it and the desert filler arc was better written than the entirety of TSR, it didn't look as good and it certainly had its fair share of dull moments but I dont blame people for preferring it over TSR
