All stuff that's short, easy to get into, doesn't require knowing any previous continuity, and will give a newbie an overview with a good bit of variety without getting too deep into anything that they may not end up liking.

I would have included a Ryosuke Takahashi thing, but I couldn't think of any that met the above criteria.

I dunno about you guys, but I got into gundam with the movie trilogy, then went back and watched the series afterwards. I think if I viewed the tv version first, I wouldn't have liked it as much. There's a lot of hold overs from older super robot hows like the gundam hammer or the zakrello. Not that goofy stuff is inherently bad, but it feels a little out of place in a wardrama. The movies are a great way to ease newbs in before they get into the deeper end.
