Now that you bring it up, though, Shelly and Gary do fit what I had in mind. This >>14704800 is probably closer to the overall tone of the series, though. The enemy pilot romance subplot might be a bit more prominent than usual, but the entire story is still encompassed by being on the more "real war" end of the spectrum for the franchise. Or at least perceived to be encompassed by fans, which is more the point of these jokes.

lol none of them are alternate universes. Wing and G were written as if they were, but Tomino threw that shit out way back in '99.

These days the only people who argue a show is an alternate universe are people who don't like that show and don't want it in the same world with the shows they like.
