Why are Gundam's gun calibers so fucked?
>>14700894
A lot of numbers for Gundam are made up. Like the RX-78's nuclear reactor only having a bit higher output than the powerplant of today's M1 Abrams tank.

How are Harute's Scissor Bits not the fastest and most mobile? In the movie they're easily the most impressive in those categories

I'm an idiot. Can someone explain what's fucked up with the calibers?

The stated weapon calibre sizes generally don't make sense. For example, the Dom carries a 360mm bazooka. Some Dom variants carry an 880mm bazooka. Despite the number being over 2x larger, the 880mm does not look much bigger (see >>14700838) If these were real life weapons, those numbers should refer to the bore of the weapon barrel (e.g., the WWII era M1 bazooka is 60mm and the German panzerschreck is 88mm) but clearly something is off. Also, the Zaku's bazooka is stated to be 280mm yet the shells it fires are obviously much larger.

I guess if you're not really familiar with the metric system, 280mm = 11", 360mm = ~14.2", and 880mm = ~34.6".
And don't worry, you're not stupid. We're just being super fucking autistic with sorta obscure mecha stats.

God the Alex is such a great design. I need a proper figure of it.
>>14701947
Well, the bazooka is already wider than 360mm. Looking at the scale, knowing that a Dom is around 18 meters tall, I'd say it's at least a meter in diameter. I guess the extra width is for cooling and recoil compensation to fit in, maybe? So they could just cut that out to fit in a barrel width needed for 880mm projectiles.
Fun
