I needed a change. Hard to explain, I'd owned the car for 10 year and turned damn near every bolt on it at some point. Also the car was starting to rot and I didn't want to throw a ton of money at bodywork.

Fun thing was back then it was the wild west for Corollas, the aftermarket was small, and knowledge of how to really get the most of the car was mostly trial and error by a small group of us suspension geometry nerds on boards like DK and Club4AG. I'm almost certain I was the first guy in BC to convert a set of stock struts into coilovers (cutting 40mm chop + SW20 MR2 inserts). It was such a great car to learn on, both for driving, and modifying; especially

The buyer got an incredible suspension setup with a rusty shell for free. Up front coilovers with Koni Yellow inserts, NRCAs, camber plates. Rear had adjustable lower links (custom made), whiteline traction brackets, T3 panhard rod, TRD 1.5 way LSD, and every bushing in the car was replaced with polyurethane; I was really dialed in.

I plan on getting another Corolla eventually, probably a TE71 or a TE31 (I had one of those for a while too).

In it's heyday it was one of the better cheap sports coupes on the market; the 4AGE was a remarkable engine at the time in that it had 4 valves per cylinder, overhead cams, and electronic fuel injection.

The chassis itself was something of a dinosaur though. The rest of the Corolla/Sprinter line had moved to FWD in 1983; with the exception of the Trueno and Levin, which retained the floorpan of the previous generation (E70), which meant a an archaic solid rear axle in the back and macphearson struts up front. Still, if you're going to use a solid rear axle, a 4 link /w panhard setup is as good as you're going to get.
