What's an effective way of doing this? I have almost every gaming console so if any of those can easily play .mkv files then I'm set there. Alternatively I could burn them to DVDs and play them on my DVD player too.

Worms came from the meteor and are attacking humanity. We get introduced to Zect fighting against them, with Kagami as one of its members, and Tendo fighting against them by himself, since he doesn't trust Zect. Tendo is also protecting Hiyori for unknown reasons.

Zect is a questionable organization though, and eventually it's revealed they have dealing with "Executive worms", and when they're revealed by the main cast they become their official targets. We get the revelation that Hiyori is a worm too, but one that seems to be targeted by other worms. We get her backstory with Tendo and the reveal that there are two different groups of worms that are enemies, with the "Natives" being considered Zect's and humanity's allies. However, the Natives turn out to have a plan of their own. Tendo doesn't know the plan, but doesn't trust them, and so strikes out against them randomly, becoming everyone's enemies. Eventually he learns about the necklaces, but too late. However, Kagami's father, who, although officially Zect's leader, had been acting in order to sabotage the Natives for years, ends up discovered and killed, telling the truth to Kagami before dying and that leads to the final battle.
