Never seen it, interested though. Sell me on this movie.

Giant sentient robot lands in 1950s America, childhood antics and Cold War paranoia ensue

Besides what >>14678812 said, also a story about making your own choice as to what you will be in life.

Original book written by Sylvia Plath's asshole husband, their relationship mirroring and exacerbating her own neurotic relationship with her father, eventually resulting in her suicide in an oven, again strengthening Plath's association of herself with a holocaust victim. Classic "little kid befriends giant scary monster, which turns out not to be evil". Like Gamera, but animated and better.

Its one of my all time favorite movies and it has been for 17 years now. I think it's easily the best animated movie ever made, at least by the west.

Just watched it again recently and it was amazing
Although now that i've seen alot more mecha, how funny it would of been in an alternate universe Hogarth shows the giant Gundam and instead of pretending to be superman, he tries dressing up as the rx-78 from the random scrape in the junkyard
>>14678905
Think it defeats the purpose of he shows him a war machine that has no consciousness and is only meant to be used for destruction. Here's my hypothetical: what if a Gundam was voiced by Vin Diesel?Or what if Vin Diesel was bitten by a radioactive Gundam and became Gundiesel?
I love that movie. I used to love the 24 hour marathons cartoon network would do of it.
>>14678774
Literally the best movie I ever watched as a kid
>>14678938
I was thinking more on the lines of >>14678938
small crossover art but I completely agree it defeats the purpose
although since you brought it up, Imagine a gundam who's mic/system that allows them to talk with other pilots is broken and makes who ever is operating it sound like Vin Diesel

It's pretty fucking great, I need to get around to buying the Blu-ray and rewatching it in glorious high definition.

>Original book written by Sylvia Plath's asshole husband
You know, he's kinda more well known as one of the greatest writers of the 20th century.
It's easily one of Brad Bird's best movies. When he's passionate about something he really goes all out.
>YFW you first saw the Supermaaaaaaaaan scene

>watch the Iron Giant for the first time with four year old son
>Supermaaaaaaaan
>son turns around and looks me in the eyes
>he says "I have tears."
>>14678774
A better Superman movie than Man of Steel and BvS.
>>14679271
I kinda wish the second half of the book was in the movie.
Because a alien that looks like a dragon comes to earth because it hears the "music" our warmaking causes, and he wants to "join in". So the giant decides to become Superman for real and defeat the alien threatening earth by punching the shit out of it.

I haven't read the book but I prefer what we got to that, since that sounds like it needlessly belabours the point and is more heavy handed than the emotive but simple ending the film achieved by just making it a missile strike instead.

Though this doesn't really reflect, I was sad, but I thought it was amazing.
