It's been a while since we had one.
The Gamescom 3.0 Demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GucYhhLwIxg
For the uninitated, persistent universe MMO with dogfights, FPS, EVA, trading, mining, etc etc etc.
Basically what would happen if EVE, Firefly, BSG, Elite, and [insert space marine FPS] had a baby.
Who's playing it? Does /m/ have a Fleet yet?

I heard it got a lot better recently. Better than No Man's Sky. Any comments on that? I am curious. I like Elite Dangerous a lot though.

if you like Elite you might actually like No Man's Sky, as someone who mainly enjoys flying around in Elite No Man's Sky seemed like a super casual version of that but with more eye candy,

I've been playing it a lot lately.
It IS still alpha as fuck. Not... "I'm gonna fuck your mom while I don't skip leg day" alpha. I mean CTDs, weird fps issues. Physics glitches that are both frustrating and HILARIOUS.
BUT.
It's coming together.
You can spawn at a space station. Put on your EVA suit. Go out into the halls, shop at a few mall kiosks, buy guns, use a terminal to order your ship to a pad.
Walk through an airlock, walk over to your ship, get on board, boot it up, and fly free.
There's missions to do to earn credits. A decent number of systems to visit right now, with many, many more to come.
There's a hidden pirate base secreted away in a planetary ring system that you can go find. They sell RARE PANTS.
Emergent gameplay is the big thing right now. You and your pal fly out to a distress beacon, fight off a few pirates, and discover a few crates of loot.... but what's that over there?
Why, it's a huge multi-crew ship, floating derelict. You EVA over, board it, and now it's YOUR ship... at least for a few hours.
It's coming along. It's got a long way to go still, but it looks like Roberts and his team are going to do it.

Right now, NMS is more of a game. But even in alpha state, SC has way higher fidelity... both in terms of graphics, and in terms of world building.
And around the end of the year, you'll be able to land on procedurally based planets... so at that point, it will be right around the same feature set of NMS.
...minus a few billion empty planets.
I'm actually super hyped for the single player shit.
I know the persistant stuff is the big draw, but it's been FOREVER since we've had a high fidelity space shooter.
It's all been this open universe, no-story-to-speak off bullshit. Which is fine, I guess, but god damn, I missed Wing Commander.
And now, we get Gary Oldman, John Rhys Davies, Andy Serkies, Mark Hammil, and Gillian "Unf" Anderson in a new space sim campaign?
That's fucking awesome.
If someone annouced an "HD Remaster" of X-Wing and Tie Fighter, I'd die a happy man.
