RX-78-02 and the Origin Manga

The last one's definitely the refit after Jaburo where it gets the Magnetic Coating, that's the same in the TV series and The Origin. Looks like it has extra verniers for space combat. Not sure about the second version's differences though.

The middle one just looks like it's supposed to be the vKa.

Maybe midway through when it gets an actual Core Fighter?

Been awhile since I've read it, but first iteration is the Gundam's appearance from Side 7 to it's arrival at Jaburo, second I think is the Gundam's appearance during the Jaburo attack and Operation Odessa up until the battle of Solomon, and the third is the post-Solomon upgrade, when it gets the magnet coating.

Also, the manga switches up the events of the OYW and places the Jaburo assault before Operation Odessa, and the Feds field GMs en-masse there as opposed to the original version of those events, where only 30 GMs are there with fifteen of them serving as rear line security for the Big Trays.

A third of the manga is a flashback to Char and Sayla's childhood, and an Origin story for Char himself essentially. You get to see Zeon Deikum, Spacenoid Politics, the development of the Zaku I, the Battle of Loum, Char meeting Lalah for the first time, Revil's escape and speech to the Federation, a bit more of Amuro's childhood too. Changes to the actual main plot of 0079 include Amuro using a GM at Jaburo to fight Char's Z'Gok, M'Quve dying during Operation Odessa, Kycillia being directly responsible for half the evils of the Zabi Clan, and Sayla starting a Civil War on A'Boa'Qu between Zabi and Zeon Loyalists.

A weird design decision from an aesthetic point of view, but to Katoki's credit, he's just being faithful to Yasuhiko's vision

I've just been reading the scans that ComicWalker posts, and they just got up to the point where White base makes it to Jaburo, but they skipped one of my favorite parts where they go to the ocean base and Kai meets that one girl. Do they do that later?

I really like how they showed the RX-78 getting upgrades over the course of the story.

IMO it adds to the immersion and makes perfect sense that a prototype would need field upgrades after data started coming in.

1. White Base lands explicitly in the American Southwest in Arizona and spend some time following the Colorado River Valley. They fight Garma’s North American Zeon forces, though the geography is much more concrete.

2. Since one of the few things that was explicit about the location of Garma’s HQ in the original was that it was based in California, North American Zeon Command is placed in partially ruined L.A.; Zeon leadership staff occupy the hoity-toity parts while partisans hide in the ruins. The White Base receives orders to coordinate with the partisans in an effort to break Zeon’s North American command structure. Hence the Battle of New York is moved to L.A. The results are more or less the same, however instead of a brief arc about Icelina wanting revenge, we get to see the Zeon military police put a bullet in her father’s head.

3. Rather than take a crazy route circumnavigating the globe to get to Earth Federation HQ, White Base heads directly toward South America, fighting their way towards…

4. Neutral space in Lima Peru. The Ramba Ral arc is moved to the South American highlands, though some may have also taken place in the Mexican desert. It should be noted that in this telling, Lima essentially replaces Belfast, moving up White Base’s refit to before the Tri-Star arc. The Miharu subplot is replaced with Hayato beating the hell out of some Zeons in the street with his Judo skills (which are more relevant in the manga than they were in the Anime).

5. The battle with the Black Tri-Star is moved to near Cuzco. White Base therefore does not take part in the Odessa Offensive for geographic reasons; M’Quve is demoted from his arc-villain status and replaced with rather enjoyable new character General Garcia.

6. White Base arrives at Jaburo in time to assist in the defense of Federation HQ against an all out assault launched by General Garcia. He tries to use an Adzam underground and it goes about as well as you’d expect.

Miharu's arc happens after Jaburo and is still in Belfast. And Odessa happens afterwards when Whire Base and other Fed forces fight in Gibraltar to traverse the Mediterranean to get there.

I really, really hope the OVA goes on to adapt the entire manga. Origin's version of the OYW is fucking rad. Fuck it, I hope it develops into a full fledged reboot of UC in general (MSD makes it seem like that's what they're aiming for) Since they'll never actually make any animates worka after 0100, anyway, and there hasn't been a good AU series since X...

All of the brand new stuff Origin adds like Char's big flashback arc can be kind of hit or miss, but the main bulk of Origin is the retelling of 0079, and that part is fucking stellar.

I don't know why, I like the other Origin Ver. RX-78's, but for some reason I just don't like the -02 that much.

I'm not even that big of a fan of the RX-78-2 in general I'm pretty neutral to it but I dislike the origin version for some reason. Rest are pretty good but they fucked it up when it comes to Amuro's.

I think it's the steep, flat chest that puts me off. Fed mobile suits traditionally have a considerable bust. Though I suppose it's justified; that's how Yas typically drew the RX-78-02.

Their is a quasi agreement among the fan community NOT to scan any of the origin. All that is available is the early uncompleted Viz volumes.

Once it's fully out on comics-walker, expect someone to bulk torrent it.

honestly you should, Vertical's release is freaking beautiful, also in my opinion the colors used in the Comicwalker version are inferior to the ones the Vertical release uses, even if the latter only has some pages in color instead of the former's full color approach

Personally, I'm kind of in the opposite. Comic Walker's made a game attempt to replicate Yas's watercolors, but there's something missing by doing it digitally as they have. Especially when some pages were already pre-colored. It makes the difference that much more apparent.

Depends on your preffered style/details. But overall mg has the best variations.

If you like the TV look then the 2.0.

If you want heavy surface detail than the OYW version.

If you like the more modern look of the redesign used for the life size statue then the 3.0.

If you want articulation and gimmicks than the Origin.

While there is nothing actually wrong with the oyw version, just keep in mind that it is slightly more dated in terms of engineering than the others I listed.

So if I'm building the MG and want to match the manga, I'd use the yellow cover for the chest cannon and not the blue, yeah?

#1009 Metal Composite RX78-02 Gundam The Origin. It's around $120, it's consider one of the BEST you can get. highy recommended.

There's another older #1001 metal composite ver. Ka that comes with the G-fighter but it articulation is not as good.
