That said, last episode made me wish Kanade or Mikumo was the main heroine, if not both. Kanade having to overcome Mikumo's voice when she's so overshadowed and already failed is a good basis for drama, as is Mikumo almost certainly having song powers that seduce other people in to following her subconsciously, but wanting to use them to help people.

Freyja has that too, but despite apparently overshadowing Mikumo all they're, she only changed Hayate and it appears to only really be an issue when her Rune is active. Mikumo doesn't appear to have done it at all since then, since she had no notable effect on Messer, Hayate, Arad or anyone outside the 3 then current Walkure members.

7 didn't try to do away with it though, because Mylene maintained that attraction throughout the show and it was always treated as something she thought was there and that Gamlin recognised - just not something Basara gave a fuck about. If he tried to get rid of it he did a piss poor job since it was there throughout the show, all it's merchandising and a lot of the official art.

I'll take it over Freyja's melodrama in the last couple of episodes frankly. They're both pretty me characters though. Then again, I don't think one particular character has ruined the show or been a sign of it jumping the shark - I just think the writing in general has been pretty bad and resulted in a lot of boring characters, over drawn mysteries and no tension.

Chaos is basically a publicly funded charity organisation trying to help the Brisingr Cluster and only have a handful of VFs. When they lost their home planet and it's contracts at the half way point they were essentially broke. There's no reason to suspect they use top flight machines.

Windermere on the other hand is a privately backed nation, funded by weapons dealers hoping to get new tech off the back of their research. The chances their machines have a technological edge are much higher. Especially when even the advertising of the show built up their mystery and wouldn't reveal their manufacturer, transformation and general information until the show was under way.

Sheryl didn't suck so much at the EX-Gear because she was born to sing - she sucked because she had only a few hours practice at using it at most and was off on a tear the one time she did use it. She was good at singing because she'd been doing that for years and had lots of practice at it and various related things, like stage craft. Practice and experience makes you better.

Mirage is a technically competent pilot who can fly with the average to good ones because she's put in a lot of practice and has a good bit of experience, but loses out to the really good ones because she's too uptight and lacks the imagination to push herself beyond the technical limitations the manuals cite and really play with a machine or improvise like Hayate does.

Those stats are probably not accounting for said boost, since they don't mention it at all. And since overboosting using song wasn't really a thing during Frontier's production. Senses could be enhanced using it, not so much reflexes, maximum speed and so on. The VF-27 and YF-29 don't use songs to boost performance, they use the PPB to encase the entire air-frame and remove wind resistance and gravity as an issue, so that they can go faster without breaking the plane in two.

The bulk of those episodes focused on Walkure trying to rescue her from unknown circumstances they felt weren't right, while Mikumo was unconscious. Mikumo was only awake after coming back, and she didn't freak out at that point - just matter of fact stated that she was a clone and had been born three years previously. She was neither happy or sad about, just accepting.

It's odd that the others were trying to reassure her, but the wording leaves it possible they thought she might be upset by the revelation if her age and nature as a clone deliberately designed to fit Walkure, rather than the fact she was a clone full stop.

The one you see opening this episode doesn't look like a normal fold gate and could just as probably be the dimensional fold fault opening to accomodate their departure. We don't see any VFs enter it, only a ship going up to it. Unless you mean the one that opened on Alfheim, which was a notable exception because it was opened by and using the Protoculture ruins, not any ship.
