***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

The poll for the Group Build is complete, and with more than 25% of the vote the winning is the Ace Custom option. I'll do a proper writeup later, but the general idea is to build/paint your custom suit that you would use if you were an ace pilot. Custom armaments/weapons are a plus.

Its part of bandai's new service where their website now lists a licensed middle man option you can pick as a shipping option on p bandai kits if you are non-Japanese. So far the only kit listed under this is transam 00 raiser and you still have to pay all the middleman markup.

Hey and ive been wanting to do a something like that and was planing on doing it during the fall.

Id like some input on it tho, im planning to use the Gelgoog jager as a base and paint in yellow and black. I was then going to attach the Gelgoog marine commander shield to it, and give it a beam bazooka. Lastly I was maybe thinking of putting the Psycho Zakus backpack on it.

what are gunpla generals thoughts on this?

Neat. Might have to actually try to get in on this one.

Does the 1.5 Gundam count as a "Grunt"? I haven't seen 00 and always thought it was kinda the MP version of the Reborns.
If I'm not gonna be able to use that, I'll use the Adele or G-xiphos.

Railroad and artcraft supplies. The stand itself is an actionbase although things like dollar store picture frames and pinewood bases from the art store are very commonly used as well because they can be picked up cheap. You can get little tree kits anywhere that sells model railroad stuff but it's easy and cheap to make your own out of twisted wire or glued together sticks. The grass and leaves are "Flock" which is made of sawdust dyed green. A thicker flock is usually used as foliage. I'll post a pick of some of my supplies later to give you a better idea if you want.

>>14667089
Just thin plaplate cut up into little squares and glued on. I wish I had researched reactive armor a little more and made the squares closer together.

The Casval Rx-78 isn't really an Ace custom. It's an entirely new unit. Yes it looks like the Rx-78-2 that Amuro used, but the guts are entirely different and unlike that of the classic Gundam.

Fair point on the other examples though.

Honestly? The Psycho Zaku backpack is way to unique to its parent suit. It can't be anything else but the Psycho Zaku backpack, which was one of a kind. I have the same problem in Gundam Breaker, I feel it makes a suit look more obviously derivative than if you use more generic things in interesting ways. The Gelgoog base is great, for instance, because it's mass production and there are a ton of interesting things you can do with it.

Ah, well its good to know that now before I spend the money on the psycho zaku.
I had been thinking that a Psycho Zaku may have been to much, so im just going to go on my fall back and put the gelgoog marine commanders backpack on it.
Other than that, what are some other suggestions for other things I could add to it.
>>
>>14667764

Looking at the transformed modes it seems extremely similar internally to the HG design, at least the mechanical portions such as hinges and joints. Hopefully the knees are different (they look different from the pic) because they are kind of a shitty part of the kit. I also hate the way the external knee armor connects on the HG, but that could easily be different.

Also the way the little side skirt/wings connect makes the polycap very visible on the HG, as does the backpack connection, so I'm looking forward to more pics of those areas. You can see the big backpack polycap above the tank here.

Yeah I don't get what this is supposed to be exactly. The whole reason the Stargazer works is because it's so clean and different and yet in motion its design makes so much sense.

This tries to copy the aesthetics, but then slaps them on top of a Zeta with Hyakushiki legs? Why? It doesn't work. The Hyakushiki's fucking exposed legs clash so hard with Stargazer aesthetics.

And the fuck is that backpack?

the warehouse is pretty much the only redeeming factor. shipping would be $50, like on the kshatriya and sinanju together, or about $10 like on a single hg gouf or zaku
>>
>>14668109

Generally you want to order from Japan only if you want to buy a lot of kits at once(like 100 dollars worth), and want them before they go on Amazon since Amazon gets newer kits like 2 months after Japan does, or you don't care when you get them if you're going to cheap out and get SAL.

If you just want 2 kits don't order from Japan.
>>

EMS usually takes about a week, about the same as UPS ground from california to New York. Usually HLJ prices are okay, often lower than amazon when you buy a bunch of stuff. Then again, I heard EMS prices went up recently so who knows.

F91's Crossbone Vanguard has old 1/100s of the Berga Giros, Den'an Zon, Dahgi Iris, Vigna Ghina, and Vigna Zirah. Good luck finding them though.

Crossbone's Crossbone Vanguard has only the main Gundams in both HGUC and MG, with like half of them being P-Bandai.

Zanscare has old 1/144s of the Zoloat, Zollida, Contio, Rig Shokew, Tomliat, Shy-Tarn, and Abigor. There's also a 1/100 of the Zollidia. Again, good luck finding any of these, since Banrise fucking hates late UC.

its just Tamiya cut in freehand curves, i wouldnt use anything else.

it was one of the first camo patterns ive done so there are some rough spots, especially where peices of tape met, but it came out pretty well in the end.

that was a really simple paint job, just paint everything with one color, mask off roughly half the surface area then spray on the second layer.

there are a few different ways to apply camouflage markings, it gets more complicated the more colors you want to use and what the pattern is. the general rule is to start with lighter colors and go darker with each layer and make sure the previous coats were dried properly before applying more tape.

if you want to be really lazy there are camouflage decal sets now, which are convenient for digital camo and weird stuff like hexagon camo.

Do you guys buy kits in bulk? Whenever I buy a kit I usually build it within the week, unless you count putting on the decals and painting and all that which I do over a period of time.
>>
>>14670472

I used to work a very punishing job, so I'd buy kits in bulk but it would take me like 2-3 weeks to put together a single kit since I'd be able to work on a kit maybe 1 day out of the week, and I was never fast to start with.

That's how you get a backlog. If you're putting together a kit every week you might as well buy in bulk since it should be cheaper in the long run and you have to wait less.

I mixed some paint like 2 weeks ago for airbrushing and then it started raining before I got all my pieces painted.
It still hasn't slacked off enough for the humidity to get under 70%, do I have to worry about the mixed paint deteriorating or some shit with time? If I have to mix it again I doubt I'd be able to match the "bathroom tile blue" perfectly enough for all the pieces to match, so if I replace the paint I figure I'm going to have to repaint all of that shit

Unless the sale page specifies it's shipped via Amazon Prime, then no. Japanese sellers will ship via SAL unless you specify expedited, and then they'll ship via EMS. If it's fulfilled by Amazon though, then it'll arrive much faster regardless.

>>
>>14669778
A lot, unfortunately. The arms are terrible. Plastic on plastic ball joints at the shoulders and elbows, they limit your posing options a good bit.
>>
>>14671145

You literally only need 2 blades... a small chisel blade and the classic hobby knife blade. 5 packs of each are 5 dollars. Handle doesn't matter as long as it holds the blades. You can get a decent hobby knife handle of your choice for 15 dollars maximum for fucking GOLD QUALITY HOBBY PRO POLYMER shit.

That's 15-20 bucks. Enough to use the leftover 15 for an HG.

>>
>>14671212

They are seriously the easiest kind of decal to apply.
>>
>>14671215
But, stickers.
>>
>>14671219

No, bro. I remember I was scared of applying waterslides too, but they're so fucking easy. You just dunk it for a little bit, take it out, put it on the thing, maneuver it into position with a toothpick because you can slide them around due to their nature and the water, and then you press gently down with a q-tip, roll it over, apply your post-decal solution of choice(like Setter or Micro Set).

It's basically like a sticker but looks 10x better and slides around and applies itself more easily.
>>

Alright well I tried my first time to fill a seam line on char's shoulder pad and I had a big fucking glob of cement drip down on to the moulded details and I feel like the whole thing is fucking completely ruined now. What the fuck do I do? Should I have used extra thin? I've been sanding for 30 minutes and still fucking nothing. I still can't even get the fucking glue off the flat parts no matter how much I keep sanding and rinsing it off there's still a fine layer of white

Fairly certain clear stickers are 100% fine with water. Hell, I remember there even being a guide in Japanese by Kawaguchi giving tips on applying them by dipping them in water. It helps with positioning and doesn't leave much air trapped underneath.

i've been doing this on every sticker i apply, and it's been coming out really well. if someone has fears of losing adhesion, topcoating will also serve to hold the sticker down under a layer of varnish. the stickers are barely noticeable now after using water

Tell us your region and/ or paints available to you to buy. For US stay away from Rustoleum (the stuff you buy at hardware stores is too thick) except their primers I guess. Same deal with Krylon, which is technically acceptable but not ideal. If you can get it I've heard Tamiya cans are nice, builders here have said as much and posted photos. Testors should be ok too as its a hibby brand but I've never heard the cans mentioned.
>>
>>14672250
Tester's Top Coats are pretty solid. I can personally vouch for their flat coat. Dunno about their other stuff though. I know their regular line of paints are ass. But I hear their Model Master line's great. Tamiya makes great spray paint though.

If it "failed" it's probably because the kits were hurt by their designs, which did not translate well into model form, and they also required a lot of unique molds, which are expensive, and the show was not popular enough to push enough gunpla sales to justify all those molds.
