It might be in reference to a guide for scifi writers published in Asimov magazine in 1980, in which George Scithers described a long used, already stereotypical of the genre method of concealing details about the protagonist until the twist ending, using the example of a narrator who was a tomato all along and hadn't thought to mention it to the audience until then. It's a real stretch, but tomatoes really hadn't seen a lot of other use like that, and certainly not as metaphor for the human condition like they started being.

Tomatoes are common, retard mode easy to grow, and easy to draw and shade. They also don't have the symbolic baggage of something like an apple unless you're going with >>14666502's theory.

This reminds me that I need to find some /m/ food porn. The closest thing I've got at the moment is YKK.

Me.

Actually the only thing I like about them are the hornworms that like to hang out on the tomato plants my parents opt to grow every year.

Weird thing though, we only seem to get tobacco hornworms, not tomato hornworms. It makes sense from a scientific standpoint, tobacco and tomato are relatives to one another much like those two hornworms are to themselves, but it's just so inelegant. At least they leave the pepper plants alone.

There's really nothing to say about it that's actually /m/ related though, but I think they're cool guys. They can get real huge, and yet they can hide in plain sight so well that you'll likely resort to breaking out the blacklights at midnight just to find them.

I had relatives who had a tomato garden, and chickens that they'd let loose to kill all bugs in it. They never seemed to get the hornworms, so I ended up going in myself to collect them. Yes, it's astounding how large they can get and how hard it is to find them inspite of that.

Tomatos were apparently marketed as apples of paradise in Europe though, Serbian and Croatian names for tomatoes, "paradise" and "rajcata" imply them being that.

Vitamins in tomatoes improve your eyesight and make your eyes bigger - exactly what a mech-user needs.
