The harem aspect is surprisingly minimal. There's really only TWO girls that express any romantic interest in him.

As for quality? yeah it's pretty consistent with a few spikes. Good series all in all.

Vandread's not a harem show with mecha elements it's a mecha anime with minor harem elements. It sounds silly but it's a very subtle yet somehow major distinction.

this seems as good as any as a place to ask this question considering the the world/plot is similar...

i saw an anime movie years ago that was.. fairly /m/ and screamed mid 80's-early 90's animation that was a species of women in space in an endless war with some evil race of monster-people (all male and very alien looking)

they were fighting over/trying to find this one planet that would be the perfect home for them, and the squad of MC girls finds and starts to settle/prep it: but one is infected with somethting, they pull a strange alien parasite from her stomach and it's a human bab (male) and they have no idea what the fuck it is so they decide to care for it

it grows up super fast,most of the tech and everyone but boy (who grows up rapidly) and youngest girl ends up dead somehow. and they figure out sex and start populating.

fast forward and it was earth

what the fuck was that? forgot the name so fucking long ago.

Im always pessimistic about sequels to series that had good endings. Fuck, I didn't even like GGG FINAL. Last thing Id want to see is the Nirvana crew dead or messed up or at each others throats for drama. And you know someone got the idea of blowing up the Nirvana because it would be dramatic. That shit didn't work for the fucking Enterprise.

Hibiki is such a great idiot hero protagonist because he only acts that way out of habit as a vestige of his macho culture, insecuritu and age, and his maturing and learning to put that aside is a surprisingly well realised arc, leading to a fantastic final exchange.
