He wants to become Prime Minister while going against all big political figures from Japan and commending politics based on "friendship favors". This type of revolutionary character always ends up being evil if the anime takes place in something similar to the real world.

It's a shame though, because so far I'm completely on his side.

Although Kuroki's taken a more active role as the main character in S2, Active Raid is still an ensemble show where all of Unit 8 (plus Asami) share the main character slot.

Like for example this episode's plot had nothing to do with Sena but he had a ton of quick, fun focus moments.

Active Raid is a decent show

I mean it's not great, and it doesn't quite live up to the aspirations of Patlabor it has, but it's like solid B material

better than most of these assorted /m/ shows about teens saving the world, at the very least
>>
>>14650861
I don't think Active Raid is even trying to be Patlabor.

The writer worked on a whole bunch of Toku and Super Sentai. That's a lot closer to the content and style of the series.
>>
>>14650269
That's really what makes this series special. It's not tryhard, just fun.
>>
>>14650269
>What happened to just mecha being fun, made for the sake of enjoyment?

Well, the idea of harmless fun was kinda driven into the ground with the advent of the trainwreck school of thought.

See, for something to be fun, apparently it has to also be accepted as being trashy shit that can only be appreciated ironically. Fun has essentially acquired the definition of "the absence of craftsmanship."
>>
>The writer worked on a whole bunch of Toku and Super Sentai
and eroge adaptations
>>
>>14651609

That is sad. This is really the kind of anime I love the most. It's a nice simple show with likable characters getting into a new fix every week that I can unwind too.
>>
>>14651616
And adaptions of some LNs too. People gotta make a living, you know? His original stuff is mostly non-anime.

>>14651630
Same. I love shows that are ultimately episodic with a thin over-arching "main" plot that culminates in the finale. A lot of people these days hate that though, and everything not "main plot" is deemed filler.
>>
>>14653173
I think it really depends on how good the episode to episode plots are.

Luckily Active Raid ranges from "okay" to "amazing", and it seems to pace out the best episodes really well instead of tossing all of them in one clump.
>>
>>14653332

Even the okay episodes are highly re watchable because the characters are all likable. So in that regard it's not UNlike Patlabor.

Though we do need more train love this season.
>>
>>14653173
S1 Active Raid was really good at this. The first episodes introduced the idea of people using powered suits for various purposes and Unit 8's raison d'etre, then goes to foreshadow the appearance of a shady criminal collective. S2 feels less like that but it works as a continuation of S1.
>>
>>14653822

Glossary update for Absolute Peeping Declaration
>Low-profile security
Explains the difference between high-profile and low-profile security, as well as that low-profile security is normally done to not disrupt the surrounding atmosphere.
>Yamase AK Type 4
As seen in the episode, those are ultra-small and yet powerful cameras, which are very popular among the voyeuristic scene in Japan. Normally, buyers would be registered, since people know that those drones tend to be used for illegal purposes, but before it got a bad reputation, there was a very large number of those drones being sold overseas, and then reimported and modified clandestinely.
>Buck-toothed turtle
Explains the origin of the Japanese term for peeping Tom (debakame) from Kametaro Ikeda, a man who began as a voyeur and was then convicted as a murderer.
>online storage
Stuff about servers, the internet, and of course cloud computing technology.
>proportionate response
Explains that the police is of course not allowed to use excessive force. So no shooting on sight for mere voyeurs.
>Code of Criminal Investigations, Article 2
The codified set that details the proportionate response. Emilia has learned all those codes by heart. Use of weapons is detailed in article 7. There are internal investigations possibly pending regarding Asami during this affair. The article does say that it does not dare discuss it any further (sheesh, Asami is really frightening, man).

This show woulda almost have flown under my radar but I happened to see those screencaps of crazy Asami from the latest ep on futaba and she looked so pretty. I basically marathoned the first season and got caught up in this one over the past couple days and man this show is neat. The characters aren't really extravagant or anything but there's a lot of I guess solid execution behind it that makes the show so enjoyable for me. Like pic's episode I really liked. I could see where it was going from a mile away but it still made me cri because it was handled well enough to be moving, regardless of whether I'm just a puss.
I guess my favorite characters are Kuroki, Sena (I like both them on their own and the dynamic they have), and of course Asami because how couldn't I.

There is some Patlabor in there. It's a justice unit composed of a bunch of weird misfits. That's the best I can put it into words, but it sounds too vague. There's something else that I can quite express, maybe it's how goofy the show can feel when you expect it to focus more on the action and saving the day.
>>
>>14667307

A band of misfits responsible for a not small amount of collateral property damage

>>14667307
There is a certain amount of Patlabor DNA perhaps, but the goal isn't to replicate Patlabor since there are other influences involved (like the series being Toku as fuck) and very different circumstances.

It was quite a powerful episode, shows they can do stories without having major action scenes. This is what I like about Active Raid, sometime it's nonsensical over the top action comedy and suddenly it turns sombre.
Plus I am also liking the fact that how "chunni" Sena is getting character development in this one.
>>
>>14679970
Both Sena and Kuroki are generally reasonable, justice-minded people, but their quirks get the better of them quite a bit. But yeah, I like that Sena gets the spotlight this time around.
>>
>>14679970
Having a big fight I think would have taken away from the episode. That he just kind of gave up in exhaustion to what was basically his only friend in the world is part of what makes it hit like it does I think.

He'd been through all that shit, and nobody gave a damn, but then he found somebody who did and listened, so he just threw in the towel.

>>14680002
What I really liked was not just Sena getting the spotlight, but how he and Kuroki had something of a role reversal, with Kuroki being the one who ends up staying more distanced and acting as the voice of reason while Sena is the one who lets his emotions drive him more.

>role reversal
This is true, and supported by developments during the timeskip too. Kuroki is going to graduate school to study about terrorism, and Sena now runs his company with a bunch of oddball immigrants. Kuroki got more serious and responsible, while Sena learned to be a bit less of a control freak.

Sadly, Asami never got the memo...

Asami has been comic relief side character now.

>while Sena is the one who lets his emotions drive him more.
Sena's compulsion to pick up trash will make him end up the head of a Yakuza family eventually.

Man, when Miho hears about that, there's gonna be some serious apologizin' going on.
>>
so by Japanese cop drama template who in No.8 is going to die first, and how bad they are going to destroy No.8 members at the end?

>But yeah, I like that Sena gets the spotlight this time around.
He already had plenty this season and so did kuroki, they are really starting to feel like actual mcs.
I wish funasaka, asami and rin get something more.
Specialy asami, why did they demote her?
>>
>>14680803
>Specialy asami, why did they demote her?
You mean in her plot role? Because she's now a Bossu, she got promoted.

Are the next 4 or 5 episodes going to be plot epsiodes like last season?
How they are going to wrap it in this span of episodes?
Another season/OVA/Special?
>>
>>14683354
That is indeed possible. Next episode will have Inagi, what looks to be Bird, and Mythos.
>>
>>
The Active Raid website has now added additional information for each named character.

Kyoukai-sama's nickname for example is Eagle Joe.
Great Boss and Inagi met and started a relationship during university. He was of course her senpai.
Mythos is now officially renamed Jirou.

I blame /v/ for that since they are so far up their own ass that they can't enjoy anything and as they leak in every board they take their hatred of everything with them and so the trainwreck mentality was born, same deal with the Tortanic Syndrome

Glossary update for episode 8
>Optical Camouflage
Makes the willwear transparent as shown in the show. However, that technology is still really expensive, not too stable on the field and is thus still in an experimental stage.
>Aoki Electrical Industries
Is a Japanese industrial equipment manufacturer with a large market share in the civilian willwear sector.
>XP5540
Consumer-friendly willwear type, and very widespread. Rather easy maintenance, still high quality, doesn't cost much and is very customizable with lots of options.
>Yamanote Immigrant District
A ghetto where the poor and illegal immigrants gather. They make a living by recovering debris from the quicksand area after the water recedes.
>Nippori Team
A gangster-like band that operates outside normal gangster-territory. Is recruited from the poor. Quickly gained influence when the police managed to put heavy regulation and crackdown on regular gangster organizations.
>Demi/Half gray
Refers to the unclear criminal status of the nippori teams.
>Carupanubra Principality
As explained in the show, it's ruled by a dictator with the help of a junta, and the nation is not politically stable. There are anti-regime movements trying to bring democracy, but because of the nation's geo-important location for the space elevator project, all foreign nations are quietly ignoring the rebels and doing nothing to aid them.
>Artificial Rain
Explains the process how unit 8 made it rain.
>PC
An abbreviation used internally by the police, meaning "Police Car".
>>
>>14691705
>PC
Actually meant "Patrol Car", not "Police Car".
