I've been reading the FSS manga for the past few weeks (thanks to the movie) and while I think the art, designs, and setting are neat, I can't say I'm in love with the story. Not because it's confusing like so many others have said, but because there isn't enough story. There are many characters that are introduced, have deep backstories, and then disappear never to be seen again, and most of the arcs wrap up a bit too neatly and quickly with no proper continuation. There just isn't anything to really cling on to. I know there is a timeline, but it's like the manga itself tries its best to avoid it. Is this bad writing or just my expectations not being met?

Like who? Also keep in mind that the story often skips many years of time and those characters may be long dead. I think the hardest thing to keep up with regarding the characters was them randomly changing designs completely.

Dear OP you've missed the whole point of the story. It's called Five Star Stories, not A Five Star Story.

>Like who?
I can't remember most of them to be honest. Like the guy who piloted the Bang Doll. Like I said there isn't anything to make me want to remember them.

Regardless, it has to be entertaining. Reading it right now feels more like a pointless chore.

Eh? The story in that chapter was completely resolved. Several other characters return later though.
What does it matter, Gothicmade retcons everything anyway.

Just because there's no self-insert like Kirito here for you doesn't mean it's not entertaining.

That's not at all what I said, but okay.
