In the case of the OP webbum, the problem isn't speed, it's camera and presentation. The camera is swooping around all over and too close to the objectives that it's too hard for the audience to keep track of their positioning and what exactly they're doing. Same principles why so many movies and TV shows fail at action scenes.

Quick! Someone post webms of Voltes or Dunbine's lethargic "battle" scenes so we can all wank how it looks so much better than modern CG shit! Truly, the older an anime is the better. All modern shows are garbage and can't do anything right.

Am I fitting in yet?

>Same principles why so many movies and TV shows fail at action scenes.

It's the opposite.
Orange films their fight scenes generally in one shot. Modern action scenes in movies use a superfluous amount of cuts to disguise the fact that they aren't actually hitting each other, while the fights themselves are more or less glorified acrobatics.
The west is widely lauded in this regard. Even Jackie Chan, for example, has criticized western cinematography for this.
>>
>>14640359
> it actually feels like the combatants involved have weight to them instead of flitting around like supermen regardless of inertia.

Context is key.

It is much more fitting for Buff McLargehueg to move like a tank while Lanky Skinny BoosterBots fight with the Rolling Scissors.

>>
>>14643436

Not trying to badmouth the game or anything, but it doesn't even really look like the guy's dodging anything. He's just sorta buzzing around side to side while missiles explode in the distance.

But then again, it would probably be a load of BS if you had to constantly react at the speed your mech can move at.
>>
>>14643427
You can tell what's happening in the other webm as well.
Meanwhile in your webm there is literally no reaction beyond the camera.
Five second mark and the impact between the arm and the blade causes no interaction between the katana-weilding mech. Distribution of force is also fucked considering that the mechs hand is applying force towards the hilt-end of the katana while the black mech is applying force to both ends of the katana. There should be a forward action being placed on the tip-end of hte katana.
Then at the seven second mark, even though a forward force is being applied by the mech, it doesn't properly fall forward in relation to the impeding force. Even if we are to assume that the the blade pushed the arm to the side, the reaction from the robot still doesn't coincide with that.
To say nothing of the weak overlapping action, especially in the running and sliding animation from the one second to the three second mark.
There are hardly any applied principles in this, and the ones that are applied are done so at the absolute bare minimum.
>>
>>14643361
Large amounts of cuts is only one way an action scene can fail. Shoddy camera work can ruin a scene just as much as poor editing.

3D mecha is finally starting to not look like garbage. The motion stretching/blurring/whatever the fuck they are doing to make it look more kinetic is solid.

>>

>>14651364
Yeah, now instead of a stilted mess of animation, we get an amorphous bloblike mess of animation!

Sometimes I think people are just easily wooed by things going fast.
>>
>>14651384
oh please, just look at something like the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games vs. the garbage they made before that. the "blob" can go a long way in emphasizing fluid motion, they don't even need to be going that fast. the point is that it looks more like animation and animation looks better.

too bad when everything slows down in these mech shows it still looks like a pile of shit episode of Reboot. until they can make that look like it was drawn i guess the war will never end
>>
>>14651398
>relating game cgi to anime cgi

Anon, the visual continuum is used to express two distinctly different things between those two media. Gameplay visuals and the need to convey what an action under your control looks like is not to be compared with the narrative told through visuals, where the lack of control over events means you're further detached from the unspoken narrative, requiring a greater amount of information be conveyed through either visuals or dialog to compensate.

Clusterfuck animations can work in a game, you know they occur as a result of a certain input, cause and effect. In a tv show it's a recipe for headache requiring repeat rewatches (imagine what it's like for anyone who doesn't torrent or dvr their stuff, hell even digital distribution has input latency problems which make simple pause-rewind-replay a hassle) just to comprehend a given scene.
>>
>>14651437
I'm just talking specifically about the blurring and blobbing effect being added to CG movement. Those ninja storm games have plenty of cutscenes and they look great; in motion they look even better than the show did 99% of the time.

If you're talking about doing too much at once and having tons and tons of fast movement, then that's another subject and sure it can get retarded.
>>
I actually like most of the fights in Majestic Prince. I find that too many CG mecha scenes don't try to utilize dynamic camera angles. There are some shows where basically every cut is framed the exact same way. It's something that's a lot less common now though.

Its concept is average and run of the mill. But concepts don't matter as much as execution, and MJP's execution was very good.

I prefer it much more to the two other mecha anime that were airing at the same time.

Seems justified in this case. There's no other way to really emphasize how sanic fast these jets are: If you were to do an Itano Circus from afar, you simply wouldn't be able to see much of what's going on and the clouds/stars aren't a very good reference point on much distance they're covering when the skies are so vast.
