The whole point of Oberstein is that he's infuriatingly correct, but he undermines the War romanticism that a lot of Admirals feed on, especially Reinhard. He's cold as fuck, he's probably dead inside, but there is nobody more loyal to the Empire. Not Reinhard specifically, but the Empire itself. But Yang didn't "let" the fleet get wiped out, he tried to warn his commanding officer beforehand but the guy didn't listen. The only reason he and Dusty didn't die as well is because Dusty managed to get the ship to ascend just in time.

I rewatched it, it's basically great on both sides. Schenkopp mows through Imperial boarding troops to get to Reuenthal and Reuenthal holds Schenkopp off long enough for reinforcements to arrive. And he has the presence of mind to realize he's getting too into the battle to think clearly.
