There were rumors that the knuckle crack they transform with the GekiChangers was offensive in some cultures, but no one ever brought up any cultures that found it offensive, so I never bought that.

They even did the same thing with the Rhino Morpher too, they sold Control Dagger as the Morpher in the toyline, even though they didn't make the same change in the show, though I thought it was so they could sell a cheaper Morpher toy back then.

I wonder if they didn't make a similar change with the Gaburevolver because they had the Gaburicalibur as another weapon toy.

I was watching the PMC 2014 Super Megaforce panel just a few days after watching 2016's panel.

Man, what a contrast of energy. There was so much optimism back then, and this recent panel was an aftermath of lamentation, where they were openly acknowledging the flaws and their hopes that didn't come to be. They really wanted it to be good, but the people in charge didn't let them, and now they have to deal with being part of THAT season forever.

I really hope that the cast gets to come back for a fun crossover in the future, because man they were really cool people that were squandered. Even Andrew Gray, whose performance I've been critical of, probably could have shined more if they let his character be more than the stoic robot they wrote, as he's much more vivacious and cracking jokes in real life. He probably could have been a decent Tyler.

He and Lynn were both executive producers from Turbo to Time Force, and the reason why many of those seasons are great is because there was push and pull between those two and also a creative team + writers that all worked together with the producers and the budgets to tell the stories they got to. Chip left after Time Force, and we got our first season with solo Tzachor, a pretty close adaptation of Gaoranger, but still done by writers who had been there for everything before. So I believe it still had moments that were genuinely good.

Flash forward to 2011. Tzachor is the sole executive producer, but assembles a brand new writing/creative team under his directive, which was very clearly follow Sentai and save money. Except this time, it's Nickelodeon, so now it's also, age it down. Add up all those pieces, and you have a bogged down creative team overall, so you get something like Samurai, which was baby Shinkenger and Megaforce, which showed how soulless their creative was under him when forced to use a completely original premise.

Greg Aronowitz was pretty much the life blood of SPD, he's primarily a props/effects professional in his work, but was Executive Producer for that season. That's how we got our Doggie Kruger suit to be so great.

Eddie Guzelian was the reason why RPM was so great, and it's a shame people retroactively give the sole credit to Chip, when he was only brought on by Disney halfway to clean up after they let Guzelian go, though he did do that, RPM could have had a much bolder second half if they kept Guzelian on board.

Jackie Marchand is a writer and producer that's been involved for as long if not longer than anyone else on the show, from Saban and into Disney. There was an old interview that isn't up anymore, but it's partially summarized in her wiki page here, where it she describes a lot of the inner workings as well as the differences working with the EPs. What I meant was, in the beginning, Chip went out and said that some of these 44 episodes he believes are some of the best ever in PR history. There's been some fun ones, and I think One Last Energem was probably the best episode yet, but I haven't quite seen "best ever" out of Dino Super Charge just yet.

I was fine with it when the figures were 5 inches because they matched the main line, and the idea of having all current and future Rangers in the same scale and style was nice, but to make a newly scaled line catered specifically to adults with the exaggerated proportions of the kids line is beyond asinine. If they were smart they would have just made their own figuarts. Even if the articulation/accessories had to be cut back to fit the desired price point, the scale and style should have at least been the same. I already have a lot of figuarts and a lot of 5 inch figures, so I'm not keen on having to start again from scratch with these ill conceived figures.

Samurai had little to do with the failure of the line. The MMPR's sold extremely well (Adam Newman of Bluefin said they were doing DBZ numbers), but Japan wasn't convinced other teams could be successful based on the under-performance of the Ninja Storm and Overdrive figures released concurrently. Seriously though, what good are 100+ Rangers when there's no one for them to fight? If key accessories were gonna be sacrificed in favor of a build a figure it should have been a villain. An out of scale Megazord adds nothing to the line. Though even then we'd only have one villain per series. The great thing about the 5 inch line is that there was instantly 15 years of villains in that scale, so I could overlook the exaggerated proportions. These new figures give me the exaggerated proportions without any of the compatibility, so I see little reason to bother with them.

They do look like fun costumes but not memorable distinct ones (which is probably what they want) but if I had a complaint it would just be that they need some color breakups like the white boots and gloves of the original. Playing devil's advocate here. They're trying to solve the problem that I presume the Figuarts people had to deal with, how do they get people to buy a more expensive figure of a not-Red/Sixth Ranger, and this is a solution that entices people to buy them all. The Kyoryuger figures came with weapons that could all combine to form the Kentrospiker, for example.

Of course, they still fucked up, really not sure why they didn't include their own signature weapons. But also I really don't care about a sub-par piece by piece Megazord either. It's kind of a tough problem to crack.

As I said before the build a figure concept isn't inherently flawed. The fact that they made the build a figures the Megazords is. An out of scale Megazord contributes nothing at all to the 6.5 inch line. A build a villain like Goldar on the other hand would give the team someone to actually fight, and since Bandai made the retarded decision of making these wildly out of scale with all their past and current figures, having someone to fight would have been a big incentive for people to buy complete teams. Also keep in mind that figuarts were 2+ times the cost of these, so buying full teams isn't as feasible for everyone.

I think continuing the smaller, cheaper figures would have been the smarter move for Bandai in moving full teams. Keeping the scale consistent with the main line would have also allowed for more crossbuying between lines. I know I was buying everything in 5 inch, but now with this divide in scale I feel inclined to choose one or the other, and to be honest 5 inch appeals more to me since it's compatible with much more stuff.

Thoughts on the annual?
The Jason SoL was ok, the goldar backstory was nice continuity wank.

Zords are great, but there's already a line for full sized, transforming legacy zords. Why do the legacy ranger figures need to come with 7 inch, non-transforming zord parts when they could include much more appropriate things?

The big megazord line might never cover every team while the build a figures will. Also, there's people like me who don't like that the big megazords always just stand straight. I care more about being able to pose the megazord than playing with the individual zords, which honestly i never even look at again after putting them together for the first time.

Enough about those shit legacy figures, are the dino charge villains tall enough to look alright next to figuarts?
