Have modern mecha designs gotten better or worse since the 80s?
>>14627170
Neither. There are good ones and bad ones in every era.

You're a fucking twat.
>rx78-2
>80s design

Which answer will get me the most replies
>Let's compare a modern version of an old design to a shitty version of a relatively new design!
be more scientific.
compare old shirow to current shirow.
>>14627170
I'd say better, but that's just my opinion.

This. We have things like the sexy 00 gundams alongside the bland Enact and blob like Thrones.
AGE-1 and AGE-2 normal look pretty good but the it has the dark hound and almost everything else in the show.
The we have G-Reco, which in my opinion have really bad designs but people tell me I have shot taste. I just don't think they look good at all.
I like90smecha designs the most
>>14627737
>blob like Thrones
>people tell me I have shot taste
they're right, thrones are pointy, not blobs
>>14627737
>G-reco
>bad designs
>Hating on the thrones
You don't only have "shot taste" but there's something very wrong in your head.
Next you're going to tell me that your favorite suit is the 00-raiser.

G-Self's design is just utter shit. Just look at that backpack whoring
>>14627784
I love the shades of blue and red the G-Self uses though, my only real problem with it is that I've never seen a picture where its horns didn't look like they were pointing at two different angles
>>14627784
Not that anon but I never got why people hated on backpacks.
It always seemed practical to me (as practical as we can get in mecha) to have the ability to switch your combat role easily.
Also when done well they can engage a mech's design.

G-reco is hard for a lot of people to appreciate because most designs don't use the typical slim human anatomy that modern mecha often uses.
I liked it for this though, the MS had varying silhouettes and it added more character to each one.
>>14627809
>engage
I meant enhance
>>14627784
Did I hit a nerve?
>>14627809
>G-reco is hard for a lot of people to appreciate because most designs don't use the typical slim human anatomy that modern mecha often uses.
They're different for the sake of being different. There's no aesthetic sense.

>They're different for the sake of being different. There's no aesthetic sense.
I'd have to argue that this is wrong, each faction had MS that had unique features to alert you they were from that faction.
for examole the capital tower/gurad had the typical notGM designs, megafuana had some early zeon inspired stuff with the jahannam and grimorie and the moon faction used suits similar to zanscare and the jupiter factions of late UC.
Not only did these designs designate their factions, but they also had a subtle thematic element because the factions in Reko had similar motivations as their ancestors
>>14627170
I prefer 80's designs personally, but there's good and bad designs in any era. I do wonder what objective mecha design standards would be though if we were to try and articulate them.
>>14627170
Gundam is getting worse for sure
Neither
Mecha design peaked in the 90s
>>14630860
This guy gets it
Gundams have hovered around the same level of quality, but I feel like a lot of studious who choose to make 3d mecha seem too obsessed with taking advantage of the medium, and you end up with totally overdesigned and messy mecha with garbled silhouettes.
>>14632756
As an example of what i'm talking about, Valverave.
>>14630860
Thank based izubuchi for that
>>14627737
>hating Darkhound
You definitely have shit taste.
>>14627170
I hope Bandai releases an MG Exia 2.0. The original doesn't hold up well (literally).

Yes
