***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Finished it and, whether because its about a 2001 model, or its a Zeta (muh transforming gimmick) this is a 1/100 hand grenade, so it can't hold anything on its own or stand up in anything besides this pose because of a wonky design choice in the hips. >>

That doesn't even look like the old Zaku Tank kit.
And if you don't care about getting it to look 1:1 like the old fucking Zaku Tank kit, then yeah, it is quite easy since you can take any one of the new Zakus and slap the upper body on the tank bottom of your choice, and all you really have to worry about are the arms and scratchbuilding that little plow thing.

You could do it, and it wouldn't even be that big of a project compared to scratchbuilding other shit.

>>
>>14627347
Anon, it... really isn't that hard. It's really one of the easier kit bashes that you could do.

Like the other anon said, it's just slapping a Zaku top half on it (which is made easy by the fact htat there's like three excellent kits to choose from, made even MORE easier by the fact that one of said kits is ALREADY a construction type Zaku, or at least got the aesthetic)

Most projects just seem the hardest when you haven't started them yet, because everything just seems impossible since you're not sure how to do it. That is, until you take the time to sit down and focus on making up a plan on how you're going to tackle the project and get shit done.
It gets a lot easier the more you get into it, just focus on how you CAN rather than how you CAN'T.

Is the Dom r35 a new mold? I never bothered to check, since I didn't like the kit. I REALLY want to like it, but I just can't get myself to for some reason.

But yeah, maybe they will do a Dom revive then if it's a new mold, they have what they need for one.

>>14627358
I guess, but I'd still like to hope so, just for the sake of finally getting a new gelgoog.
I'd be pissed though because they'll probably just make the revive the regular gelgoog, and then the cannon version a p bandai instead of just having them together.

This. 1/100 only serves to placate hamhanded snapfags who cant be assed to build gunpla properly and instead rely on larger pieces and predetermined part clors to build their shit. True gunpla builders can make any 1/144, be it HG or RG look miles better than any MG can ever hope for with adequate modeling skills like they should have. 1/100 is just a crutch to let hamhand snapfags think their in the hobby whereas 1/144 is the true metric of skill and the ideal size for gunpla.

Ebay decided to throw me a $10 coupon for whatever reason and I was thinking of using it for another RG. Thing is pricing on ebay is quite wonky compared to most other places. With the coupon I could get the RG zeta for $20 which was one of my main choices. Everything else is like $30 up

For someone who loves the zeta and is good with working with small delicate model kits and what not would this be a good purchase? Also considering I don't plan on transforming it

Or should I just scrap the coupon and look for getting another kit elsewhere
>>
>>14628239
do you like the zeta?

Get it
>>
>>14628239
The RG Zeta is a scary build because of all the the small, delicate pieces, and you basically have to semi-transform it while following the instructions as part of the build.
That said, I still don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be, especially if you're patient with it and don't try to force anything, and once it's built it's a great model.
It looks fantastic and has great detail and articulation, but yeah, don't transform it if you don't want to break something.
The only thing I don't like about it(not counting the build) is that it has weird hip joints due to it's transformation, so posing the legs is a bit weird. Still good posability, but just weird.
>>
>>14628051
Be aware that the primer requires the lacquer thinner, not the acrylic thinner.
>>
>>14628239
So, on Amazon, good prices for the Zeta run from 25-30. I'd say 20 dollars is a good price given that ebay prices are kinda shit.

I've got two Zetas so I'll give you a few pointers. First, glue down the yellow vent housings on the chest. They're loose as fuck and will fly off if the suit ever takes a tumble. Second, be careful when making the waist section. There's a C-shaped connector that's pretty delicate - one of mine flew into oblivion and I had to glue the leg in place; good thing that Zeta is my wave rider. Third, transforming the kit is best done after watching a video on how to do it. Seriously, it's kinda hard, that said the RG Zeta is a gorgeous wave rider, so I really do recommend getting a second one for that purpose. Fourth, action base. While you can balance it into standing on its own, the grenade-ness of certain parts demands the stability of an action base.
>>
>>14628395
All the transforming suits have posing issues, their joints are always compromised by the transformation; although, to be fair, in-series, transforming suits tend not to pull off the really dynamic poses, so it evens out imo.

The transformation itself isn't even that bad, the problem is that the frame material is soft, so repeated transformations easily warps or breaks down the frame. At most, I would suggest two transformations beyond whats required for the construction - one to see if you prefer the wave rider form, and another if you don't.

>>14628429
I was mostly referring to the hip placement. On other kits like the MG Delta Plus that has the same kind of transformation the hips are normal: hip bone attached directly to the pelvis, but on the RG Zeta the hip bones are turned 90 degrees and are attached to a back plating which is then attached to the pelvis.
>>
>>14628484
Hey, there's the c-shaped piece I was referring to.

But yeah, your options with the RG Zeta are basically to raise the leg or leave it extended.
>>
>>14628395

It's a known bug with camera phones.

Honestly, your best bet is to upload the images to imgur first. If they come out sideways there, rotate the image according in window.
>>
>>14628574
It's cause 4chan strips metadata from images when uploaded. So if the image was rotated on your phone, it'll un-rotate when uploaded.
>>
>>14628395
Transforming suits should be glued to one form or the other. It's a nice gimmick but they always break just during the mechanism of transforming because the frame relies on small joints and braces that . Even the MG Zeta 2.0 had a few cases of abs breaking because it was a fairly stiff joint mounted on two small braces on each side or the hook that mounts the legs to the body.

RG, with tiny pieces, is going to be even worse. It's an inevitability. If they wanted to put that sort of stress on the frame they should've made the entire thing out of POM or some sort of nylon and not ABS.

Never heard of anyone using the gundam markers as a wash. Typically you line the area then remove the excess with a cotton swab - this works for panel lines, edges, and sunken sections. If you accidentally get ink somewhere you don't want it, use some rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab to life it from the plastic.
>>
>>14628909
The lulzy bust is totally appropriate for the era. That katoki'd as fuck legs, however, are a bit out of whack.

>>14628948
In a pinch, you can always use water and even spit, but rubbing alcohol ought to eat away the ink as much as possible.
>>
>>14628948
You can probably still save it with some 2000 grit sanding
>>
>>14628955
not him but I usually panel line after I coat, but the issue is the alcohol will wear away the flat coat. Is there a work around?
>>
>>14628963

You're not supposed to panel line on a flat coat....

You also dilute the alcohol.
>>
>>14628967
You suggest lining then coating?
>>
Thoughts on real grade? HG builder here.
>>
>>14628973

The matte coat goes on top of everything. When you panel line ON a matte coat, if you fuck up you have to strip the entire coat.

You panel line on top of the plastic/gloss coat, and panel wash on a gloss coat, then you seal the lines with flat coat.

You are doing it ass backwards.

So, honest answer, I liked building my RG Zakus, but I can't really recommend them. It's a finnicky build, even by RG standards. Remember that the RX-78-2 and the Zakus were the first RGs, so they're the least refined offerings. Assembling the piping was probably the worst part; each one of those is a bead that goes over top of a plastic piece with the exception of the leg pipes. Those go over top of a spring with a black plastic inset at either end.

Anyways, the Zakus aren't the worst RG kits by far, but I wouldn't recommend them as an intro if you've just built HGs. I hear the Z'Gok is amazing, mine should arrive tomorrow night, and I can vouch for the Mk IIs and GP-01s.
>>
>>14628978
miniaturized MG's. better detail in scale. not a hand grenade like some people make it out to be.

One of the most solid is the MKII
>>
>>14628978
It's pretty great, not a hand grenade at all like the Gundam. Only problem I had with it was the legs popping off sometimes when I'm trying to pose it, but it never happened enough to be a real issue. Pretty good kit, in my opinion.
>>
>>14628985
>>14628988

>>
>>14628995
Dunno how it is for everyone else, but I never had problems with it.
>>
>>14628995
So, two issues, the plastic bead that inserts into the leg and the spring can come out of the leg. In those cases, just plug it back in. I, however, had one of them break on me inside the spring, it swung out, and a bunch of beads went flying. Good news is that you get extra, although I think I found them all. Also, I built the standard and Char variants, so that was one out of four legs. All in all, very good odds.

As for the Mk. II, only thing you need to know is that you'll be cutting piping. Cut just a bit longer than prescribed, they do give you extra.
>>
>>14628985
seconded the Z'Gok

I'm about to start on a painting project that'll probably take me some time to finish.
What my worry here is, keeping my colors consistent. I'm hand painting, so I wonder, if I mix my paint into a jar will it keep in that jar for later use?
>>
>>14629722
you arent allowed to put paint in jars, so short answer is no.
>>
>>14629722
Depends on how well you clean the jar after you are done mixing paint.

In my opinion if you are just going to handpaint it is better to buy one of those boards used by painters. They are very cheap, have several recesses where you can mix different colors letting you wash it only once you are done with the whole kit.
>>
>>14629781
>>14629805
I'm just wondering how to work around having to go back and remix paint to get the color I was using a day or so ago. If that's the only way, then that's fine.

With few exceptions, a physical shield isn't gonna block a beam blast or beam saber anyway, and those have to be parried or evaded. A shield just provides additional expendable armor against kinetic weapons that some people like mounting guns or explosives into so they can use both manipulators while still blocking.
>>
>>14630653
If beams make the missile explode, they've penetrated your shield. If your shield has been penetrated, you've got bigger issues than a small missile explosion.

Missiles, on the other hand, are easily shot down with beams and vulcans, meaning that you'll rarely block them with a shield.

Almost all shields by Gryps have beam coating.

The missiles are just auxiliary weapons used in emergencies or as an opening move from a longer range since they have a AoE effect whereas beam rifles are considered so precise that MS computers can predict their path from the barrel (in fact this is going as far back as 0079 when Ramba Ral's Gouf did it).

From what I can tell, those are the older kits, and I would not recommend either of them. You should probably go with one of the newer kits, so if you want the Zero EW, the 1/144 RG Wing Zero EW is probably your best bet. There's also a 1/100 MG Wing Zero Custom, but it's older and I'm not sure how the two compare.
>>
>>14632078
Yeah, that was my concern as well.
It's a gift for someone, so I wanna make sure it's not super shitty. Their skill level is about just HG though, so I was also wary of getting them an RG.
>>
>>14632114
There isn't really any skill difference between the different grades, just the number and size of parts.
>>
Just got done building one of the RG Sinanju's arms.

The actual wrist is a separate part from the arm frame that you build the sleeve around and it mounts onto the original frame wrist. I can confirm it does indeed pop off pretty much every time you move the wrist angle or swap the hand (Which surprisingly enough seem more like the HGUC sinanju's hands and I think may even be the same balljoint size instead of regular RG size).

So resign yourself to just popping off the wrists before you swap hands or repose and popping them back on when you finish. It's not that hard, they should slide right back on. Because of the frame's material I don't believe just gluing them on will work for long.

Other than that it has been a pretty solid kit so far. Just need to do the rest of the torso, weapons, and backpack now.
>>
>>14632179
I've heard the RGs are tricky though.
>>
>>14632195
They can kinda be, but that's usually because of gimmicks. I don't think the Wing Zero EW has any notable problems, but someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Looks great. Although the strip pattern would look better on a lance than a sword.

Find the HGAC Wing and Zero
>>
>>14627557
The only issue I have with 1/144th scale is access to certain suits like the Gale Strike or Regen Duel.
>>
>>14631159
00 put the backpacks on the shoulders and /m/ aye that up too. People just hate on seed designs to be cool
>>
>>14631308
Something like gilgamesh's Lance from fsn would look good on it
>>
You ever think that Bandai will ever release a HGUC Gelgoog Revive kit? Or maybe a HGUC Dom/Rick Dom Revive kit? Or a HG Rick Dom Gundam Thunderbolt kit?
>>
>>14632601
Once we get MG Age-3
>>
>Latest Mechanicore project
W-what is it?
>>
>>14632610
Is that before or after the MG G-Self?
>>
>>14632601

The revive line is finished bro. GM Ground Type basically confirms that they're back to regular releases again. (Which is definitely a good thing)

B-But why would they make a revive Hyaku Shiki, but then not make a revive Zeta?

I just want a good Zeta that isn't MG or RG
>>
>>14632633
You don't understand
Revive are redesigned versions of older kits already released

There was never a hguc 8th ms gm, so nothing to "revive"
>>
>>14632646
>The revive line is finished bro.
Read.
>>
>>14631815
Got a chink led in the 3.0 weapons set but I'm not sure if I trust it enough, probably being paranoid but I don't want internal battle damage

>>
>>14632633
are you retarded? HG Full armor unicorn gundam RED wasn't a revive, it was a regular release. they do some regular releases some revives. There are still plenty of kits left to revive and after the next seedshit it will be the zeta gundam. Quote me on that or better yet screenshot this
>>
>>14632858
>HG Full armor unicorn gundam RED wasn't a revive

It is, it's pictured in a group of Revive kits from a tour show.
>>
>>14632859
that has to be a mistake. its not revived at all. Same mold from 2010 same base kit.
>>
>>14632658
Got one of those too. Works well, but I've had issues of either the screw or switch getting caught when you try to take it out. It has me... concerned.
>>
whats the best color/pen to panel-line the light seafoam of the first GM? Seems everything's too bold
>>
>>14632836
I... I don't think that's how space works..
>>
>>14633043
Space isn't a magical poison ice cloud that will instantly suffocate/freeze and kill you just because you aren't wearing a pressurized suit. You literally bring all of your body heat with you because there is no atmosphere for it to escape to and as long as you keep yourself from rapidly decompressing (By shutting your eyes/mouth and plugging your ears) you can survive for about 10-15 seconds.

It's stupidly dangerous but something like what Quess did is possible.

Ignoring the silly "Char throws her back" part that is.
>>
>>14633071
Every science teacher back in high school told me otherwise, but whatever I guess.

Hey, I learned something new today.
>>
>>14633140
>Every science teacher back in high school
>high school science teachers
You'd best unlearn everything they ever told you then
>>
>>14633296

But they also told me not to inhale fumes.
>>
>>14633140
how many of your science teachers went to space?

checkmate Muslims.
>>

> Neo Zeong would cost with shipping and customs 400$+
>not to mention paints and stuff
> But because where I live it would be an equivalent of 1600$ for me(economy and stuff, hard to explain, hope you understand it)
> I would have to REALLY tighten my belt for it
> But I also have a REALLY big need for it... damn, it looks so sexy...

Is it worth it? Or should I give up?

PS Damn why Bandai didn't realease it in the same line as Queen Mansa and Alpha Azieru...

Sell one of your kidneys dude, that'll give you some cash towards it, and I'm pretty sure chicks dig scars. It's a win-win.
>>
>>14633924
Maybe some kind anon here would gift it to you.

Maybe if you posted your email, said kind anon could contact you in private to discusss where to ship the kit.
>>
>>14633948
And would said anon also tight-wrap his mother/wife/gf and send along with kit?
