In fairness, with the advancement of technology, you genuinely could bring back such things as chivalry in combat.
I certainly do understand the desire to stop war from going back to being decided with a push of a button.
When wars become decided that way, they stop being horrible for one side and thus they never have any incentive to stop. You can just do it endlessly.
