What is the most /k/ mecha series?
>>
>>14624695
Metal Gear Solid since it revolves around a soldier taking out stupid walking military machines with as many guns and explosives as he can equip in his backpack.
>>
you literally just put two opposites together, you cant get an answer for that
>>
>>14624731
This. /k/ has zero tolerance for mecha. The very fact mecha anime exists is enraging to them.

Their stance on mecha is 1. They don't exist. 2. They can't exist. 3. They will never exist. 4. If they did exist they would be destroyed in seconds by the common weaponry.

The fact that the mechs are fictional or have fictional reasons why they they can't be taken down by shooting it in the leg with a .22 never factors in.

>But minosky particles prevent missile l-
>No fuck you. It's getting blown up by busted up soviet helicopters.

>But force fields.
>No fuck you. Busted up soviet helicopters beat force fields.

>But gravity control.
>No. Fuck you. Busted up soviet helicopters.

So yeah, it's pretty much impossible to have a /k/ mecha series.
>>
>>14624786
But once the weaponized Kuratas is mass produced!...
>>
>>14624817
they have to build one first
>>
>>14624830
>take the prototype they already built
>replace the BB guns with actual guns
>>
>>14624857
That one doesn't move, though.
>>
>>14624905
Actually it does move, they just can't drive it in the streets of Japan because they lack the legal permits to do so due to the potential "safety hazards" it would cause.
>>
>>14624786
>1. They don't exist.
>2. They can't exist.
>3. They will never exist.
>4. If they did exist they would be destroyed in seconds by the common weaponry.
So... Build Fighters?
>>
>>14624786
There are exceptions. /K/ loves the various walkers from Star Wars and the Valkyries from Macross. Or as the Kommandos call, them "space tomcats".
>>
>>14624977
Actually I'd argue for a scenario similar to LBX instead since those are robots with real firepower just scaled down that don't run on made up plastic particles...

In fact I remember them talking about how to apply them to the military since conventional weapons would have problems targeting them because of their small size
>>
>>14625010
that's because the valkyries are pretty plausible in plane form, and rely on alien space magic to function anyways.
>>
>>14625010
what about power armor?
>>
>>14625037
Yes they like power armor too. In fact, people who try to dismiss power armor usually get shit on in the comments section because that stuff is being worked on right now.
>>
>>14625018
They/we don't really have a problem with the battroid forms either since most of the transformations in the show take place in zero-G.
>>
Patlabor because part of the story is that mechs are absolutely fucking useless for war.
>>
>>14625131
Patlabor 2 particularly since that's basically a Tom Clancy plot from when Tom Clancy still wrote decent mil fiction

Mellowlink is the exact same thing, except that the main guy isn't some super soldier badass. He's just a guy with some brains, a lot of luck, a massive chip on his shoulder and a really big gun.

Also, there are no whimsical, unrealistic magic powers that can immediately point at as proof of how fake everything is
>>
>>14625174
Wasn't the whole point of that scene that sticking mecha in a jungle without any sort of back up would inevitably result in fucking them up? And that management knew this and stuck them in there on purpose for whatever reason?
It's been a while since I've seen Patlabor 2.

Patlabor 2 has pretty good millitary porn either way.
Maybe /k/ would like Dougram. Lots of combined arms in this.
>>
>>14624786
>/k/ has zero tolerance for mecha
this doesn't make sense

guns are mecha
>>
I'd like say the Front Mission games, but that's the same as Patlabor. Only exists because a niche was opened and stuck like those dumb tank things Patton was always going on about. If no one remembers history: Nobody thought tanks would stick. Spider tanks are mocked as well, but a mountain climbing tipedal-tank has uses. And the army will just get lazy and want an all in one perfect mechanized unit, which is where powered armor will be once we get a small enough power source capable of landmate type stuff. Ironman is fantasy.

There is also space, which would be the best chance of humanoid mecha finding a niche since there would be a lot of construction use robotic equipment and vehicles that you'll want to give as many uses for.
>>
>>14625958
Multi-pedal*
>>
>>14624786

It's not impossible. You just take as much from /k/ as you can.

I'm pretty sure a /k/ mecha series would be incredibly grim, without being melodramatic.

Think the bloody seriousness of "The Pacific" crossed with the camaraderie of "Band of Brothers", with "Platoon" and "Come and See" thrown in for good measure.

Shame what append to Gasaraki. I've only seen a few scattered episodes but it always looked to me to be one of the most feasible depictions of mech a ever. With the TAs being sort of a new force on the field, filling a niche between tanks and copters. But then supposedly it gets really weird. I wonder what /k/ would have thought about it if it had stayed the course
>>
Mellowlink

Why are there never any anti-material snipers in any other media ever? Is shooting vehicles not as sexy as shooting people?
>>
>>14627841
There's Suou from DtB.
Lynette from Strike Witches used a Boys AT rifle.

>Thinking RPG's even need to penetrate the front armor.

Kek, any suficial damage is enought to make tanks goes full stop. The hit will stagger the crew and makes them vulnerables to get swarmed (exept its crewed by universal soldier or something). And even Ahmeds are smart enought to just target the weakspot like cameras, exposed crew, tracks, etc.

There's reasons why tank crew always cry "GET THAT FUCKING RPG AWAY AAAAAAAAH" m8.

Argevollen, while replacing tanks with mecha and having no air support due to in-universe atmospheric conditions not allowing for flight, had a lot of combined arms and did have a soldier taking out a mecha by hiding in a building with an anti-materiel rifle.

Argevollen is the most military mecha series I've seen, with focus given to all of the unit and emphasis put on stuff like dealing with artillery and their scout/spotter being one of the most important members of the team. It also has less of a gap between the main mecha and the enemy mooks than you'd think.

But it's ignored by most of /m/ due to the slow pacing and muh cee-gee mecha. There's also a bad first impression of the MC, he does the I HAVE TO DISOBEY ORDERS TO SAVE PEOPLE thing a grand total of twice in the first three episodes, and then never again.

Also featuring competent and consistently valuable mook mecha pilots in the squad who don't eat up the character focus for the rest of the supporting cast.

Also a pretty grounded depiction of the war, with the characters just being random soldiers. Also the only show I can think of where the only time you see the enemy leader is when he's giving a "buy war bonds" speech.

Or i think things like Appleseed manga will be a thing for them.
>>
>>14624786
knights of sidonia is actually pretty good on the practical aspect
>>
>>14628441
See, the big problem I can see /k/ having is that there's no role on the battlefield for a "realistic" mech that an existing weapon platform doesn't already do better. Like in your pic, there's absolutely no reason to field those over tanks.
>>
>>14632116
What about a Guntank or Zaku Tank scenario where the bottoms of the robots are tanks but instead of turrets & cannons they have robot upper bodies?

That way they can equip a variety of different weapons depending on the situation
>>
>>14627759
Those are UN mechs, that was bound to happen to them. They do that shit all the time IN REAL FUCKING LIFE
>>
>>14632203
That gets rid of half the advantages of a tank, its low profile.
>That way they can equip a variety of different weapons depending on the situation
how many different variations of "fuck off big gun" do you need.
>>
>>14632203
At that point you dont really need arms on it though, you can just mount the weapons right on the torso and swap the torso out as nee-

Power armor is fully acceptable but requires tech we wont be seeing for a long time and some seriously bullshit armor materials to even be worthwhile, but at least it has a clearly defined use.

48 year old /k/ook here and I enjoyed the early BattleTech books, (from “Decision at Thunder Rift” up to whichever one had the big battle between the Clans and Comstar and Hanse Davion passing away) despite the real world impractically of mechs.

Huge ass mechs with gigantic penis shaped guns ain’t going to happen, but I could see some kinda powered armor type mech eventually being produced on a small scale, something like the mech in “Avatar”.
