Valkyria Chronicles gets away with it by being a WWII analogue as opposed to be actually set in WWII. Though since I hadn't heard of whatever this is before this thread, I may be making a mistaken assumption as to its setting.

I never saw any Strike Witches stuff.

Like I said, it's all in the execution. But you've gotta admit that something like this at least has the potential to be disrespectful if mishandled. Especially if it trivializes the suffering of the soldiers who fought in the war in favor of teenage magical girl angst.

Again, not saying that this does. I know pretty much nothing about it. But the potential is still there.

It's only old folks like us that even remember Kishin Corps. Wasn't it based on a series of light novels? Always wanted to know if there was more substance in them than in the OVA.

For example, the aliens always appear out of the sky, except at Peenemunde, where they appear out of the ground. Now this actually made me think of one cosmological theory that the nazis held: that of the Hollow Earth, or rather that the world was the inner side of a hollow world.

Even if that was figured out, it seems like it'd be pretty terrible at level flight, since in that orientation it wouldn't have much in the way of lifting surfaces.

That's what I want to know. But the design made it to wind tunnel testing before the facility was captured by allied forces so it must have shown some kind of promise

The Harlem Hellfighters were actually pretty famous back in the day. Henry Johnson won the Medal of Honor by pulling some Doomguy-level moves in the Argonne Forest:

I mean, if you're an old ass soldier suffering from PTSD I guess you'd be upset about it but those people are long gone and nobody cares anymore. Nazis are used as cartoon villains these days. Hell people are making games about Fallujah to market it to Americans more easily.

If you can have a red skull guy lead the Nazis in a major Hollywood blockbuster you can easily have a cartoon about a random German witch in the same setting.
