There was a thread about why Japan liked giant robots so much and someone mentioned a book written on Japan that claimed it was a direct result of the reconstruction of Japan after the war and the need for a national identity after being colonized by the US. Maybe modern kids deal with their identitty in a diferent way, not with dreaming with a huge metal body but collectable toys. Isn't that what consumism is about?

Sunday morning shows usually has closed captions so I think translating isn't the hardest part.

I mean think about it; a lot of the greatest shows were directed by guys who said they were inspired by the classics they grew up with. What are we gonna get from the directors that grew up with A/Z, Cross Ange, VVV and so on?

From what I can tell, it flopped because it had no idea what it wanted to be. It had a card game, racing, and robots. Kids might be able to connect with two of those at the same time, but merchandising three concepts at once is overdoing it and probably confusing for the kids

For these kind of shows, it's all about the merchandising. The ratings barely matters.
For example I heard the arcade game flopped pretty hard despite a lot of efforts put into it.


The shows looks fun but it has CG mecha. A big no for me.
