VTOLs nowadays will do traditional takeoff to save fuel or if they are carrying a large load. Valkyries are less concerned about the former while the latter may come into play.
It's possible it's probably easier to store, re arm and service in fighter mode. Having your landing platform in constant contact with engine exhaust probably leads to a lot of wear and tear.

They are. Verniers have enough thrust to lift valk in plane mode under one G but that was shown only in SDF- unless you count Plus and it's brawl, where Isamu is throwing YF-19 around with it's verniers. Something something sustained thrust damages maneuvering nozzles so VTOL is usually performed in GEARwalk.

drop Windermere for a more "faceless" enemy like Macross 7 / Frontier had. Too many knights to give a shit about.
Focus less on Windermere and give more attention to the characters. Have more episodes dedicated to Hayate getting to know his crewmates and building relationships. Seriously, an episode where Hayate learns about Ragnan culture by spending a day with Chuck would do so much for Chuck's character.
Delta focuses way too much on the "political" atmosphere and leaves its characters out to dry. The cast is like 15 different characters and only MAYBE 2 of them have received any real attention/depth.
>>14608621
I would leave Messer alive longer. His presence created some conflict, and forced Hayate and Mirage to react.

>>14608403
> Everyone outside Hayate, Freyja and Roid is irrelevant
Roid is the only one I'd add. Mikumo hasn't really been relevant, just mysterious, which isn't the same thing. The only time she's really been relevant is when she blew up the ruins in episode 18. And if we're counting small instances like that we might as well say Mirage is relevant for training Hayate and saving his life that one time. It didn't even upset Roid's plans going by his reaction.
I also wouldn't count most of the Windermere characters. I certainly wouldn't say Theo, Xeo or Master Hermann are relevant for instance. Or Bogue, since he's barely had more screentime than them and used all of it to shout at Walkure. I wouldn't even say Keith or Heinz have been particularly relevant. All Keith has down is scowl and kill Messer, which hasn't really had much effect on Hayate, never mind the story. They grieved for one episode and then Hayate managed to out do him due to a song buff after refusing to replace him and that was about it. And all Heinz has done is sing. He's about as relevant as Kaname. That just leaves Cassim. He's had more characterization, but it's not actually counted for shit so far.
Roid has been relevant, but again, I wouldn't say he has been particularly noteworthy just like Hayate or Freyja. They're there, but we mostly see them reacting to what's happened and being quite passive. We don't know much about him or his plans even 3/4's of the way through the show for instance, and we probably won't until the last second. He took Gramia's role and renewed the war. That's about the extent of his relevance to the plot so far.
So no, I don't think Mikumo or Windermere are relevant. Not unless you mean Windermere is relevant as a faction instead of it's individual characters. In which case Chaos and Walkure have been relevant too.
>>14608903
Mikumo is relevant, only Keith, Cassim and Roid seems to be relelvant for Windermere.

>>14609018
She looks like Sharon apple
>>14609063
The next episode is dealing with her past and she was a plot device for Freryja since ep01. Keith was always relevant as a vilain in the 1st season and it seems he's going to go against Roid.
>>14609077
>>14609018
>>14609077
> 1st season
What? And all Keith has ever been is a better fighter, which stopped as soon as he killed Messer. An event which barely affected anyone in the end. I would not call that relevant. Nor would I say Mikumo has been so far since for all the show builds her up the only thing she's done is blow up a rune.
>>14609117
>An event which barely affected anyone in the end
There was a whole episode about it. It affected everyone.
>>14609121
The extent of the effect was them grieving. None of them developed or grew because of it. An episode later Hayate regressed even, since he refused to let anyone fill Messer's spot because he didn't want to replace him. As if getting a new pilot would wipe Messer from memory or something. And Arad let him. There's been no other effect, and grieving isn't really an effect on the plot or even really the characters. And with Freyja's song buff Hayate is now Messers equal so his loss doesn't even matter.

You sound like a Mirage fan now. Kaname has been more relevant than Mikumo. So has Mirage really, since at least she trained Hayate.
>>14611103
Are you retarded or you're not following the series? Mikumo is relevant right witch all what i happened and i said that she was a plot devic fro Freyja's character developpement.
Kaname was relevant for one episode thanks to messer and then thrown into the background. Training? You can that a developpement for mirage? Arad or chuck could have replaced her there and nothing would've been changed.
And no, I'm npt a mirage fan, i'm a huge freyjafag.
>>14611110
> Mikumo is relevant
Not really. All she's done since the start is be mysterious. She actually finally did something two episodes ago by blowing up a ruin, but Roid didn't even care, Freyja had already been stopped and beyond stopping her own singing it doesn't seem to have accomplished much. Voldor is free of Various now I guess.
I don't care who you are a fan of, she hasn't actually done much. And no, I didn't call training Hayate a major accomplishment, I only said it had more relevance than Mikumo has had. You can say she was allot device for Freyja all you want, but she hasn't actually done anything for her. Kaname, Makina and Reina have done more really, since they did most of her training and helped her out outside that.
>>14610930
If you don't count the Frontier movies, yeah.
>>14610993
>Implying Bogue will ever score any point.
>>14611083
Mikumo is a main character that they've sidelined while Mirage is a side character that they've advertised as a main character.
They obviously did not want a repeat of Frontier with two idols pining for the MC dick so they coughed up a Jenius in the last minute and split the #2 spot between the two of them. It's tough to market female pilots to otaku so they went with Mikumo even though Kaname has more screentime and meaningful dialogue than her.
The problem with Delta is that they just introduced too many characters and only two of them are relevant. In Walkure there is no real point for Reina and Makina other than the fact to make the idol group a fivepiece, in Delta platoon there is no real reason for Messer to have died since they are shoving the narrative that Windermere aren't bad guys while Arad and Chuck are literal ghosts along with Mirage. Ever since Messer died none of the four pilots ever improved and it takes plot armor to even get them to survive future encounters, not withstanding the plot armor afforded to the Windermere side.
The writing is all over the place and its not going to get better any time soon.

That's what makes it look red shirt-y.
SDF was like if every allied mobile suit was a GM and the only way you had to know if someone isn't going to facelessly die in one scene was their custom colors.
>>14621402
Forward swept wings = instant protagonist mecha, Kawamori himself said so, didn't him?
>>14621406
I actually sorta liked that about SDF.
Everyone flew "normal" VF's instead of flying some speshul snowflake prototype/custom job.
>>14621406
Yeah, he said something along those lines.
>>14621412
If we ever get another show with UN Spacy pilots, I hope they go back this.
>>14621412
But all the main characters did fly custom paintjobs...
>>14621612
yeah, custom paintjobs, not custom valks.
>>14620300
It's moving slowly.
>>14620988
So what's the justification for storm attacker mode? SDF had a reason for the Macross transformation, but it doesn't apply to later designs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D--eVxaLF6c
>>14621771
>SDF had a reason for the Macross transformation
>it can transform but we don't know what's the purpose of it
>but it also magically fixes our energy problem so who cares
Kawamori should make a serious Macross one day.
The slow pace is slowly killing this show.
>>14621890
Wasn't the transformation a human addition? I imagine Storm Attacker mode is more nimble for a start and a better way to execute a Deadulus Attack if nothing else.
Is there an episode this week?
>>14622365
Yea, but GG dropped it because they found the show boring like everyone else. You can see raw pics upthread.
>>14622082
>Wasn't the transformation a human addition?
no
>>14622375
GG dropped Kuromukuro, no indication that they've stopped working on Delta.
>>14621771
Ability to point the Macross Cannon independently of the current thrust vector, at a bare minimum. Also punching battleships with aircraft carriers is a pretty useful trick.
>>14622517
>GG dropped Kuromukuro
What? Why?
>>14622517
They didn't drop him, he had real life issues get in the way. And they obviously found a replacement, since that was 3 episodes ago.
>>14621890
I wasn't talking about why the ASS was modular from the start, but about why the crew decided to transform the ship later (to reconnect the cannon to its power source after all the energy lines folded away along with the fold system). Even if later designs kept the modularity, I don't see the need for specifically a humanoid shape.Unless they used the same reasoning as with the valkyries and they expected to fight battleship-sized aliens.
>>14622522
>Also punching battleships with aircraft carriers is a pretty useful trick.
Yeah, but I asume the UN Spacy doesn't make decisions based on the cool factor.
>>14621377
too 'heroic' look for a mook unit. it was used as mass produced unit in both tv series and movies thou, during final battle.
>>14621351
This is still a clusterfuck, performance notwithstanding . Kinda like Laevatein
>>14622661
>I don't see the need for specifically a humanoid shape.
the reasoning was: we don't know what's the purpose of it but it turns out to be convenient
IRL: we need to sell toys of transforming robots
>>14622661
Protoculture had some valid reasons:
-Vajra
-Protodeviln
-rescue operations, as in pushing or catching stuff.
-because we can
-rule of cool
>>14622816
>IRL: we need to sell toys of transforming robots
Thou I can see something Quarter sized to have viable tactical use in combat, as disabling gunship in Frontier or re-entry scene in movies showed.
Other than that, if you already have a modular ship capable of doing it at it has proven useful, why stop using it? Since SDF Plus and Zero were only entries where humanoid form wasn't utilized by ships efficiently.
Maybe it's my fault for being interested in MAL opinions and checking their forum.
But why was Ranka so hated?
>>14622913
Going by there usual tastes, she was more moe than Sheryl so she should've auto won.
>>14622980
Uhh... What?
I mean, how could someone even see Ranka and Alto getting together?
Alto never really showed any interest in the girl and I'd downright say he was treating her more like a sister than a GF...
>>14620300
Mirage got mad at Freyja and Hayate.
Kanade found Mikumo floating in a tube.
Makina and Reina gonna get raped.
>>14622913
>MAL
fuck off
Ranka is childish and an annoying little girl.
>>14623021
>she was more moe
>>14622375
>like everyone else
I am enjoying it.
Delta's love triangle doesn't feel like one. It's only between Freyja and Hayate since ep01.
What's your favorite VF? And your least favorite?
Need to know for no particular reason.
>>14623925
YF-21, VF-25, YF/VF-19 are my faves.
I don't really have a "least favorite", but it'd probably be the Durandal.
>>14623668
Rooting for someone because her body such as more moe or have a bigger boobs even her personality is suck is ultimate retard.
>>14623925
VF-171. The 17 is great too, but the upgrade wins out slightly due to having a better color scheme and slick surface detailing.
YF-27 is my least favorite. It looks like an accident that occurred when a YF-21 and Elgerzorene got wasted together one night and ended up shaming both of them with its ugliness.
>>14623925
I really like the VF-19 family, but the VF-1J is just so damned iconic; probably a tossup between those two.
Least favorite? Probably the Az-130, that thing is hideous in every mode, from every angle; I get that it was supposed to be a badguy VF, but it manages to be less menacing than the Fz-109 and FBz-99 were done so much better.
>>14623925
Favorites would be 25, 171/171EX, 19, and 29, in no particular order.And the 2SS.
Don't really have a least favorite.
>>14621351
This is the Durandal, right? My favorite VF, although it doesn't look like it has a lot of following.
>>14624822
Not a big fan because of the shape of the engine nacelles on the wings remind me of dicks, and the forward swept wings paired with forward swept canards are a bit too excessive, even for Kawamori.
>>14624833
Yeah is overdesigned and honestly, I liked it more for how the Battleroid mode looks than the plane itself.
Also I really liked the VF25 Messiah at first so that might have something to do, dunno.
>>14624822
I don't mind it, reminds me of the SW-XA II, but it's not going to win any beauty contests in fighter mode.
Considering it's a VF-25 with a bunch of aux systems and boosters strapped to it, the disheveled appearance makes sense I guess.
>>14624822
>>14624924
>>14624963
Eeeh, forward-swept canards don't look good in general, it seems to me.
>>14624983
Maybe if the YF-29 had more conventional wings it wouldn't be so bad.

>>14624656
wish they'd give us a proper kit of the Nothung.
>>14622781
To be fair, it looks a lot nicer without the super parts.
>>14625083
Those nacelles are so weird, in the point they are, on forward swept wings, there's just something off about that.
>>14623925
Sv-52 and YF-24 Evolution are my favs but I really like them all equally.
Well, except for Durandal, which is a clusterfuck. Awesome, high performance clusterfuck but still.
>>14623989
I have soft spot for EX, for it's underdog status.
>>14623989
how about YF-27-5 Shaher Femail?
Just got my copy of Macross 30. Any other anons play it? If so, what did you think?
Anyone here like drawing VF's?
>>14625110
I think it's the best looking version of the 27 by virtue of livery alone.
>>14625146
Just drawing them, or making your own?
I did a VF-like transforming robot plane based on the Corsair on Blender once, making all the bits click together with the thing looking like a decent plane AND a decent robot was such a pain in the ass. It made me appreciate Kawamori's work better.
>>14625162
Just drawing them.
>making all the bits click together with the thing looking like a decent plane AND a decent robot was such a pain in the ass
And Kawamori starts all his designs with lego's too, what an absolute madman.
>>14625117
I thought it was pretty great. Manually aiming with the gunpod is awesome and being able to fly freely is cool too. Only complaints I had were the occasional slowdown and low flight ceiling.
>>14625117
Actually just got mine a week ago. Loving it, even its rather gamey in a sense. Quests and such. It's not a super advanced realistic combat simulator with transforming jets, but its gets the job done.
Biggest gripe is the 'ceiling' on the maps. Sometime really want to go higher up. Story is silly crossover antics and whatnot, but that's enjoyable too in a way, and it makes for some pretty cool setpieces late game.
Love the VF-selection, which is perhaps the most important thing in a game like this.
>>14625171
>And Kawamori starts all his designs with lego's too, what an absolute madman.
Kawamori is a mechanical designer, though.
If he wanted, he could have ended up a designer of real vehicles and such.
Drawing stuff and designing stuff are two very, very different fields that simply overlap because you can't make designs without somehow showing them and you can't draw good stuff without designing it first, anyway (just think of how much work goes into every character Disney designs and how manz concepts get thrown away left for fancy art books and documentaries).
More mecha less idolshit next time please.
>>14621397
>flipping through the Macross Chronicle artbook thingie

God fucking damn it.He looks so good in it.

The original ship was modular, but the implication is that it was never meant to transform. Global and the engineers just took advantage of the ship's modularity to transform it and connect the main cannon to an energy supply when the usual conduit disappeared. Exedol and Britai have no idea what the transformation is or why they'd do it afterwards, and Exedol is an archivist whose job is to know about Protoculture stuff.
Being modular isn't the same as enabling a specific transformation, since modularity just means the various bits are interchangeable. It's presented as the ship's engineers idea to make it transform, not take advantage of an existing transformation.

> Sv-52 and YF-24 Evolution are my favs
Are there even any official pics of the Evolution? I find it weird that someone would list something that barely exists on paper (to my knowledge at least) as their favorite.
>>14627345
>Are there even any official pics of the Evolution?
There was a brief scene of a schematic for the YF-24 in Frontier.

Holy shit.

>tfw YSFlight install is exiled in an HD somewhere else
Downloading all the packages and shit again will be such a pain in the ass.
Wait, that reminds me, I uploaded it once for a thread on /m/ a while ago, I remember it had some conflicting models that made YS spawn some annoying dialogs on startup, wonder if one of you guys still have it.
>>14627767
Unless you want to catch them all you really need VFX pack I've linked above and all-in-one compilation of all nippon-mecha-which I admit I've lost over years. Old links aren't working anymore and I'll have to dig through all my old HD to find it - last time I've needed it was during Frontier screening. No conflicts thou, unless I've been messing with performance files of different machines, as stock YF-24 was easily outperformed by Maeve/Yukikaze.
>>14628599
It's because my folder had all those packages and stuff accumulated over the years, including VFX of course, which config files I tweaked so the valks weren't so easy to stall.
[gg]_Macross_Delta_-_20_[FF934D06].mkv
>>14628656
It's real, I repeat, it's legit.
>>14627724
It being in YSFlight doesn't make it official, since that's just the developers interpretation if what it could look like, not the definite Macross version. Kawamori has never designed one, nor has any ever done so with his permission, so the schematic seen in Frontier, which is of fighter mode only is all that there actually is. What you are a fan of is a tan design, not an actual one.
IT'S OVER HOW CAN SHE EVER RECOVER

>>14628911
After watching the episode I got the feeling she was deep down meaning something like "stop this sulking about giving up on your talents, at least you two HAVE talents, for fuck's sake."
>>14628911
at that moment, yeah
it's not like she was talking shit about their abilities
Am I the one who really feels mostly irked by Mirage's scene? Like fucking hell, I hadn't complained before, but at that point it really did feel like it'd be better if she just wasn't there.
>>14628949
Eh, why?
does anyone have that military article about a new prototype missile that can turn on a dime at high speeds, much like macross?
>>14629083
Because it was cringey, it got in the way of something that desperately needed to happen (a talk between Freyja and Hayate) it didn't solve anything, and it was mostly just her venting? I get it sure, she feels she's talentless, they were talking about quitting doing the things they have both have amazing talents for. But what she did accomplished nothing. It solved nothing. It's not like the two couldn't have progressed to the next stage in a dialogue. Heck, there were no more dialogue between the two precisely because Mirage interfered. Literally a foil action.
>>14629222
Mirage is seriously the load of Delta at this point. The show would be so much better had she never existed.
>>14629268
>if she, who is part of the trianlge, has never existed.
