One of the main creative forces behind GGG, Ryōsuke Takahashi, didn't return for FINAL and his absence shows.

FINAL completely and utterly misses the point of what made GGG so liked: it was a kids show, but made by people who aimed higher with it since it was a Hail Mary attempt at reviving the failing franchise it was part of. That cost them, because it's target audience of kids didn't like it, and it tanked in the tv ratings failure harder than all the previous already declining series already did. But otaku ended up really digging it, and turned it into a nicely successful show after the fact.

FINAL is not a kids show. It was made by people who saw that otaku bought GGG, and thought that they instead needed to make a show directly for otaku. It's darker, edgier, and more pandering in some misguided attempt to be 'mature'. GGG's theme and tone of positivity, hope and inherent goodness are jettisoned.

Earth's mightiest hero in the series becomes the God of Destruction in FINAL. Woof.

Guess that's fair. It was definitely a change and I just sort of willfully forget things like Pillnus, but I still thought it carried on a relatively hopeful message, and the constant loud speeches about courage were part of the charm.

I guess I always sort of saw things like "God of Destruction" as in-universe embellishment, something Palparepa used to prop himself up that GGG ended up owning. Otherwise it was just such a fun ride full of scenes and fights I still love going back to, but I find it hard to separate FINAL and the TV series as much as most people want to.

This means Betterman is next right?

I wonder what the odds are that they'll go back and restore the scenes they censored for GGG. Would be nice to have a "complete" version of Final with the extra GGG scenes and also them asses and titties.

That really felt like something Palparepa spouted to attempt to make himself look better and to try mess with Gai's head, but It just didn't work. The only "Destruction" Gai brought was to the Sol Masters who deserved it anyway
