For regular items, it costs Bandai 800 yen to make a 3000 yen kit. They sell the kit to whole salers for 1200 yen who sell the kit to stores for 2000 yen.

For P-Bandai, Bandai is making 275% profit vs 50% profit of making it a normal item. They would have to sell and make 4 times as many kits to make the same amount as making it p-bandai. There is also absolutely no risk unless the p-bandai is an absolute turd that no one will buy.

Pretty much. Most of the P-Bandai stuff is older designs or incredibly niche new stuff. They don't have to mass-produce it in the usual numbers either, only to have the excess sit on shelves somewhere taking up space that could be used by kits for actually new shit.

You mean they have bigger margins per unit, not more profit overall. But they also end up handling all the management involved in selling items that is normally up to retailers, so it's not like they have a perfect margin, there is some cost to it involved in employing and organizing people they wouldn't have needed otherwise.

Plus the kits are usually of unpopular, at least according to their market research presumably, designs. Really, most people don't want the Heavyarms Kai EW, it's old and busted in this day and age. The only thing Wing is getting is some manga that's nowhere near the popularity of even shitty Gundam anime.

A bigger issue is that this new MG is quite literally just a repaint of the general release one. The only new mold is the gatling guns, of which it's a quick x4.

It's hard to remember in light of how much they reuse frames, but one of the original purposes of P-Bandai was to cut down on inflating the line with ridiculously minor variants.

Doesn't sound like an issue, sounds like the ideal use for a P-Bandai, unlike the Waterproof Gundam which looks like it had more work put into it then most regular releases, but still probably wouldn't move enough units to justify a regular release.

Though going by how the original MG had it, the chest gatlings will literally just be two new parts. Hopefully they don't force you to paint the clown mask like you had to on the old 1/100 though.

and also because they wanted something that will give more than 200% profit per item every time they reprint it. The Tallgeese 2 has been reprinted 2 times now, (which is actually pretty low as far as reprints go if it were a normal item)
