What does /m/ think of Amon Apocalypse of Devilman?
Here's a few webms.
Munch munch munch
is not bad
why don't you open with your thoughts and we can go from there
>>14602349
I don't think much of it.
>>14602349
LOVE the style. But some scenes feel unnecessary and the ending is lame.
>>14602349
It's okay I guess. I wasn't nearly as fond of it as the first two OVAs, and I don't even remember the plot too well. I only ever read the original manga, I heard this was based off of a separate one. I dunno, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't memorable either.
Except for the most hypnotically sexy depiction of Satan to ever exist. God damn you, Ryo.
>>14602948
Yeah, wish they did a follow-up with Akira fighting Satan.
>>14603218
>Except for the most hypnotically sexy depiction of Satan to ever exist. God damn you, Ryo.
This is too true.
Brutal.
>>14602349
It's good until the ending
MIKO IS CUUUTE!
>>14602948
Wouldn't say the ending was lame just that the final fight went on for a but longer than necessary. Not that it makes it bad.
>>14603231
I don't even think he tries that in the Amon manga, either. Not that I expected them to fight. He mostly just wants to understand why he did what he did.
I've not seen it entirely but I've seen a bunch of clips, it seems fun if you don't compare it directly to the original Devilman
The hate it gets seems kinda unfair given that I never see anyone criticize the Demon Bird OVA for its horrible manga-to-anime changes especially in the Jinmen fight. At least it was open about being fanfiction and not trying to "improve" classic Nagai scenes by adding pointless melodramatic bullshit.
>>14603907
I thought the ovas were based on the Devilman novels, not the manga.
>>14603907
I did like those OVA'S, but they deviated from the manga too much. Even the characters weren't fully the same. Too many changes for my taste.
>>14604235
Source?
Nom nom nom
>>14604894
http://devilman.wikia.com/wiki/Devilman:_The_Birth
No other external source, but it makes sense, since some events are different from the manga.

"True Devilman (真・デビルマン, Shin Devilman) is a series of novels by Yasutaka Nagai, based on his brother Go Nagai's manga Devilman, with illustrations by latter. It was published by Asahi Sonorama in four volumes in 1981. Revised editions were published in 1999 as Devilman: The Novel (デビルマン The Novel) by Dengeki, an imprint of MediaWorks.
The series served as the basis for the Devilman: The Birth and Devilman: The Demon Bird OVAs. A novelization of the first film, also written by Yasutaka, titled Shin Video Shosetsu – Devilman: Tanjo Hen (新ビデオ小説 デビルマン 誕生編), was published in 1987 with illustrations by Kazuo Komatsubara.
Differences from the manga:
1.Akira Fudo's parents were studying demons with Ryo Asuka's father and got attacked by them while examining the Himalayas. Akira's father Reijiro was merged with a demon, while his mother was killed by Jinmen. Their assistant Yamanobe became a devilman and ultimately died trying to protect the
2.Makimura family from the mob that eventually killed them.
Several characters who went unnamed during the origional manga are named includeing Kozo and Akiko Makimura the parents of Miki and Tare and Massami Izumi aka Devilman Puffurle, it also said that before her transformation Massami was a school teacher."

Anyone got a webm request before I delete the Amon ova soon?
>>14604917
>>14604926
Ah, I see. Thanks.
>>14603907
The Jinmen fight was better in the OVA, that's why.
>>14602368
>Gee golly this looks neato
>Rips tities off of mutant bug girl
>...
>>14603907
You can criticize the first two OVAs all you want, but at least they had a good story. The Amon OVA is pure drivel and plays out like a Dragonball Z spoof of Devilman. They take arguably one of the most interesting parts you could explore of the Devilman story - the aftermath of Miki's death - and instead present whatever the fuck the Amon OVA wanted to be.
>>14607763
>all those qt demon girls Amon/Devilman killed
>>14607816
That doesn't stop it from being entertaining.
>>14607763
Then you won't like this, either.
Who acid tits here?
Devilman is probably the only series that makes me want to fuck Satan
What was his fucking problem?
>>14609638
OMG! Did she die?
>>14603873
>>14609638
>>14609642
The 90's were very pointy
It's not /m/.
>>14607763
It kinda looks like a meatbun, I could see why he'd do it
>>14609748
She survived.
>>14609642
>>14609752
Nagai sure does love his flat caps
I remember the part where he punches a demon for a ridiculously long time
>>14606809
I'm not the "FUCKING SPIC!!!" guy but you'd probably cum over telenovelas and take them dead seriously with that taste. The OVA version was drawn-out and melodramatic as fuck while the manga version was brief & subtle which had far greater effect. I felt it kinda mirrored the story from Sabu & Ichi where Ichi had tokill his old masterwhich would not be surprising since Nagai started as an assistant for Ishinomori. It was sad but not in-your-face about it.
>>14604926
I guess that explains it. Christ those must have been some pretty shitty books.
Devilman's writing & plot isn't even what carried it as much as the emotional journey of the narrative themes mixed with the visual execution, and yet the guy who did the books seems worse at writing than Nagai.
>>14604894
I think the first one was good because it's mostly pretty close to the manga, even though I don't like how they didn't finish it with Akira beating up the thugs from the beginning; that was a wonderful way of ending that part of the story and highlighted the huge personality change Akira went through after fusing with Amon.
The second one though was just annoying to watch and a waste of good animation.
>>14610951
Yasutaka Nagai wrote Shin Devilman too. He's also the one who got Go into manga.
>>14610951
Oh, I forgot your opinion is the only right opinion, BusterBeam. Sorry about that, it will never happen again. I would not dare critizing your enormous expertise and knowledge about japanese comics. Thank you for showing the light, I will right now destroy all my tapes recorded with those telenovelas and Devilman OVAs since now I know they're no good!
>>14610951
>>14611951
>telenovelas
That brings back some memories.

My whole beef with Amon is that it goes to its own story inside of just adapting the ending.
The ending of Devilman was what made it so memorable for me, and we might never see it in animated form.
Ryo is best girl
>>14610951
The opening for the first episode of 009 vs. Devilman had that fight, and I thought it was really well done. Nagai's style really lends istelf well to being skewed towards older Japanese ink painting styles.
>>14602368
>Those fucking spasms when she does
>>14612391
Jun Kawagoe will adapt a manga scene faithfully without fault.
That's just what he does best.
>>14602368
Someone should make a webm of those tits
>>14612354
So your complaint is that it's not what you want it to be? Wow. It's loosely based on the Amon manga, remember? Not the original Devilman manga.
>>14612898
It's very quick. Hope this will do.
>>14612935
Yup, that's my complaint. It's adapting a far inferior work over a better one.
>>14612798
New Getter Robo contradicts anything you said.
>>14612935
That helps. But could you make it untill her tits are about to be ripped out?
>>14602349
Oh shit, I've been meaning to read the edgy Devilman spinoffs for a while now. I think I'll go do that. Is this an adaption of them?
>>14613073
That's not an argument.
>>14614356
Ha. My bad. Thought you just wanted the jiggle part. Here you go.
>>14614366
This is a very loose adaption of the Amon manga.
>>14614434
Tits being ripped out but otherwise pretty gud
>>14613590
On the contrary New Getter supports everything I said.
I'm not talking about writing, which he didn't do.
The scenes that he takes from the manga are faithful panel recreations, even with the script changes (and I'm not talking about those), but rather the storyboarding.
