As far as Zeta itself is concerned, the faction is predominantly EF with only two connected characters having direct ties to Zeon (Char and Kigunan.)

And before they're brought up, the Roberto and Appoly as former Zeon thing was also retroactive. In the series proper, all that's said of their background is that they survived the OYW. It's never said on which side, and given they seem to be as in the dark as anyone else about Quattro, it stands to reason they just as likely met him for the first time in the EF.

Every tired Zeon group kept fighting anyway, until they were finally wiped out for good on Mars. By U.C. 0096, the next generation of humanity have moved on from the dark history of the Zeon wars. Funny how Jupiter ended up being literally the epitome of evil in the Universal Century. First they get Side 3 into a situation that forced them into war with Earth due to the massive debts the from Helium-3 trade, then after Zeon lost the One Year War, sent an envoy to hijack the Federation from within by becoming a higher up within the Titans. For over a hundred years, Jupiter had both Earth and Space by the economic and ideological nuts.

Then the Federation decided to play it's own Machiavellian ploy by attempting to directly hijack the prices of the Helium-3 trade by sending a spy to Jupiter to bare the child of the Jupiter Empire, Crux Dogachie. When Crux found out he was played, he outright began plans to literally genocide the entire human race on and around Earth. Even after he died, many others would follow his genocidal plans. The Brother Colistos Light and Colistos Shadow both were able to get a Colony laser capable of firing from Jupiter to Earth running and planned to destroy the Earth in twelve shots, one shot every hour. Then after that failed and the child of Crux Dogachie turned the planet into a hub for pseudo space socialism, multiple members of the Jupiter government escaped to Earth and hijacked the Zanscare movement and prepared another genocide plan.

If humanity could have been unified with the conflict of the past silenced, they could have focused on the real monsters lurking out around Jupiter.

Fortunately, a lot of that stuff is only really from side stories and is easy to dismiss or ignore since there's nothing about in 0079, Zeta, CCA or F91 and their involvement in Zeta is limited to Scirocco. Victory is the only one that has any kind of real Jupiter involvement, and even that's pretty minimal. It's really just Crossbone that bangs on about them being the true problem.

This. Jupiter, RoZ, Feddie Blofeld, Zanscare, all of these players fleshed out the rules and reasons and ties which supported the setting. But above all the debates and struggles over politics, economics, philosophy, moral values, the future of the human race, etc, was the human struggle. The Principality of Zeon and its era of catastrophic warfare upon the solar system was led primarily by human beings who desired first and foremost to satiate their human desires, and all opposition to the champions of Zeon throughout this era were challengers who stood defiantly to defend their own humanity.

Gundam is a human struggle; and within the context of this human drama, nothing will take away the fact that Zeon itself was an embodiment of all that could be dark and cruel and self destructive in the human condition.
