I don't know why but early 2000s Hirai character designs have a very strange charm on me.

It's really just SEED. SEED Hirai is much worse than regular Hirai. Hirai himself is not bad as a character designer, and criticizing him for sameface is like criticizing Mikimoto for doing the same doe-eyed girls or pre-joke status Shirow for making chicks with short, dark hair.

Anon it was perfectly fine in Infinite Ryvius and that show was overwhelmingly dire as fuck.

Hirai only gets memes due to the stuff he made for seed/Destiny.
Otherwise he's a good character designer imo.
I just like that his style sticks out more and is recognizable when placed with others, and it's not just faces, he has distinguishable bodies too.
