It's not supposed to be fair.

Keep watching, Gundam 00 is one of the better Gundam installments.

One of interesting things about the AD universe is there's nothing really exceptional about Gundams except their GN drives (and maybe the psychological component), which is why once the UN got their hands on it (courtesy of Ribbons) the Gundams became irrelevant. I think one of the Ahead pilots from S2 summed it up best: "Your time in this world has already ended!"

As for Graham, he'd never pilot a Gundam for the above reasons, but also out of pride and respect for his former squad.

Presumably they pick them apart to obtain GN technology, and are able to devise pseudo drives.

I have to figure the Union would have a leg up though, they would still have Eifman, and before the thrones showed up he was on the cusp of figuring out the nature of the true drives. In fact, I think he had literally just realised the Jupiter thing before he got zapped.
