I just finished FMP recently and I have a question about Gauron. In episode 17 when Sousuke finally beats Gauron in combat, why doesn't he just finish him off there with a coup de grace?? It would have saved Mithril a lot of trouble. I haven't checked out the LNs so maybe it is explained better there, but the show left it to be fairly ambiguous.

Gauron's mech had been disintegrated in a massive explosion, usually that means the pilot's been turned into a fine red paste, so he had no real reason to search for, or expect, a corpse in the first place. Then his old BFF stood up and look like he was about to shoot him in the back but shot up instead, so he was preoccupied in the immediate aftermath anyway. But Lamdah Drivah bullshit he didn't really understand at that point save Gauron, who probably promptly took off whilst the old friend was dealt with and the nuke recovered.
