Shin Gihren, I like to play it's pilot mode sometimes but the AI tends to do really dumb shit, for instance the AI once sent a fleet of nothing but ships to attack Luna II.
>>
>>14576437
PSP wasn't it? Only ever played one of the earlier ones I think, got as far as the Zeta era but fucked up when it became a three way dance with Neo Zeon and the Titans.

Its been so long since I played it but I think had them bottlenecked at each end of the solar system but just couldn't build up my forces good enough to beat them and was getting ground down so I ragequit. I've come to accept I'm terrible at games like this or Total War.
>>
ive always wanted to play a gihren greed-ish game

which one is the best to play without knowing a lick of moonruin?
>>
>>14577825
Shin, the pilot modes on normal/easy would make it easy to learn the basics as the AI will usually win without much input from you save helping them capturing a few bases here and there.
>>
>>14576437
>I like to play it's pilot mode sometimes but the AI tends to do really dumb shit
This is why I don't play pilot mode despite liking the concept.

Jesus it's like running around in a circle chasing your tail - you take one location and the AI "commander" will probably lose 3 in the meantime.

Garma Zeon is Best Zeon
>>
on a scale of 1/10, how hard is it for someone with no knowledge of Japanese but knowledge of UC to play these?
>>
>>14578897

Depends on the scenario and the game.
In Threat of the Axis V for instance: The UC scenarios are really text heavy and need a good wiki or gamefaq to get through.
The side scenarios though, stuff like Garma's Zeon or Zeon Remnant campaigns literally only have one event (at the 50 turn mark?) and everything else is just the basic game, which when you have all of the basic moonrunes worked out is easy enough.
>>
>>14578897

Gihrens Greed Sega Saturn: 7/10
Blood of Zeon PS1: 6/10
Indendence of Zeon PS2: 9.5/10
Axis V PSP: 5/10
Shin Gihren: 7/10
>>
>>14579127
Axis V and Blood of Zeon are both good starting points, very easy to get into after a bit of trial and error playthoughs and generally most of the events are easy to understand, even without knowing the language. If you watched the shows and OVAs, just listen in for character names and you should be fine.

Independence of Zeon is god damned nightmare trying to play without knowing basic Japanese. Unlike Blood and Axis, the gameplay is on a much more micro-managey based and every aspect of your factions government has to be monitored or game over. Pilot loyalty, tech research, bribing the congress and senates of your nations, having anti-war movements suppressed, having to sign bills with certain time limits to take over bases and points, an entirely new event tree than any other Gihrens Greed, ect. It's the hardest game of the series to get into, but it has some perks to it, like a create your own faction mode.

Impossible dream project.

A game in the style of Gihren's Greed.

But with the scale and setting of an SRW game.

CE is a what-if where Tem never went full retard?

To bad Tem is such a junk pilot in the game. He has some abilities, but can't bring the machine he built himself to its full potential unlike his Son.
>>
>>14581213
His faction is fun as shit to play as though, having Zaku's and GM's fighting side by side is something else.

>>

In one of the games there's an event-chain early on during the OYW as the Federation where you can capture a squad of Zaku II's, giving you a couple to use during the early game?

Think it was related to the plot of Igloo and the episode with the Hildolfr
>>
>>14581288
You can always steal the plans, you know. Besides, I'm not sure why you'd want to do that, by the time you unlock GMs, most Zakus are pretty obsolete.
>>
>>14583812
>>14582824
Because on Tems Faction you literally can build everything, so rather than hoping you steal the plans to Zeon or Fed MS, you can just develop them concurrent with one-another.

Do I need to know japanese to play this?
>>
>>14582824

It's in both V and Shin. You can decide to send them to intercept supplies and they end up destroyed along the Hildorf. In Shin the flow is fucked up, so the Zaku II are usually useless at that point (they are much more usefull in V) but you still lose a decent pilot.
>>
>>14588273

There are screenshots with translations around both for V (easier to find and with a small but helpfull wikia that details the events tree) and Shin. V is the most playable and complete of the PSP episodes and it's easy to learn how to play. It's also avaible on PS2 so if you want to emulate the game it has highter resolution sprites, better suited for a PC monitor.
>>
>>14588415
How important are named pilots in the GG games?
Like with the whitebase event line, is it usually better to cut early and save Ryu not to mention Matilda etc and get the Whitebase crew becoming playable soon into the game (though at low experience levels) at the expense of not killing Zeon Aces? Or is it better to sacrifice them to get rid of the likes of the Black Tri-Stars, Ramba Ral, etc
>>
>>14588600

Depends on the game. Shin has only the OYW scenario, so you may want to kill Zeon aces to gain as much advantage you can, so keeping the WB on the anime route is a good option. Conversely in V keeping pilots alive is a must because they return later. Also the feddies have a distinct pilots shortage compared to Zeon but not so bad as other factions like the Titans in their scenario.
>>
>>14588415
It's also confusing because you Federico still dies even thouhg you get all six Zakus, which makes no sense considering all six were been destroyed by Sonnen.

People lost in the White Base path:
Paolo: A good captain, but the tech jump and aces killed in return for his life is a good trade off.
Ryu: A good pilot to have around, generally a slightly better pilot than Hayato, but weaker than Kai, Sayla and Slegger. Letting him die will lead to the deaths of Rambas entire unit.
Matilda: Slightly junk, warships and transports become outclassed very quickly into the start of the 0083 time, so she loses a bit of use.
Woody: Same as Matilda, but can be saved if you end the White Base path early instead of sending them to fight in space.
Slegger: A damned good ace pilot, slightly below Kai and Sayla, but still a damned good pilot to have in your roster. Can be saved if you take over Solomon fast enough, but if not then he and Dozle will both die.
>>
>>14589617
>Paolo: A good captain, but the tech jump and aces killed in return for his life is a good trade off.
In the newer games he dies whenever the V project(It'll start after a certain number of turns of not accepting it's proposal) starts no matter what you do.
>>
>>14589659
With exception of Shin Gihren, I am quite sure if you do not execute the V project before turn 20, then the White Base events will never take place. Instead on turn 35, you will get the option to conscript the white base crew at level E rank.

I don't recommend this as this makes it so you can't get MS/MA development running until a 5th into the game, which will force you into Type-61 and Fly Manta Raids.

Anyone done a Federation challenge playthrough where you can only use conventional units and mobile suit designs stolen from enemy factions?
>>
>>14592109

You can find some let's play like that on Nico Nico. It's not much of a challenge in Shin, at least if you use Depp Rogg. In this game those bombers are broken while in space you can spam battleships. Take some time (ship's beam cannons are way less accurate compared to V) but it's quite easy.
>>
>>14592166
Is Shin the one where all mobile suits are built individually instead of Mass-Production MS coming in groups of 3 compared to stuff like Gundams?
>>
>>14592183

Yep. Also it returns to a continuos world map instead of the Risk style areas of V.
>>
>>14592443
I've only played the 'risk' style maps, how does it differ gameplay wise?
>>
>>14592662

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLLANMLb1lk
Here is some gameplay of it.

While I still enjoy the risk styled gameplay more, this system makes certain areas far more important to battlefronts that the original, along with making operations like invading Earth from space far more daunting.
