***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Just finshed the RX-78-2, posted the Nu last night in the old thread.

Model building is fun as fuck, going to buy some more next week along with panel lining markers.

Gonna order a HG V2 and HG Full Armor Gundam Thunderbolt.

I also finished my Zudah this morning. Lovely kit, mono-eye is a bit tight, though. That's the only real complaint I have. I can see how they want people to buy more than one because it comes with two sturm faust and two magazine slots for extra mags that you wouldn't have unless you bought more than one.
>>
>>14559975
I couldn't quite get the stickers on the shields of the FAG to sit right. Planning on painting the orange color on when I get my airbrush. My biggest complaint besides that is the missile pod on the backpack just being a dark grey brick. It's to be expected of an HG, and can of course be solved with some customization, but it does make me regret not getting the MG a bit.
Still really happy with it though, I've got it posed on my desk with my thunderbolt GM.
>>
>>14559975

I don't have the V2 Assault Buster, but IIRC it's basically the stock Victory, which is not a bad kit and looks nice when it's all put together and panel lined although it isn't the best kit, and the Ass Buster and HEXA parts are all very decal-reliant or don't even come with decals and you have to paint.

That said, it does look very nice.

The HG Full Armor Gundam is really nice looking and comes with so much shit, you'll probably spend as much time on it as you would an MG.

That's all really.
>>
Why the hell there isn't, at least, a HG of the Xi Gundam?
>>
>>14559990
Timing and also it would be at least a 3000 yen hg

>>
>>14560034
>>14560042

Psycho Gendum and Kshaw are from one of the most iconic installments in the series and Unicorn, which sold more than anything.

And even then, those are HGs that cost 40-50 dollars. Xi Gundam would be just as big if not bigger, at least as expensive as the Kshatriya if not more, but instead of being from a highly visible series it would be from some book a lot of people don't even know existed. It was also piloted by one of UCs biggest faggot shitters, so people who buy the suit because they like the pilot wouldn't be into it.

It would literally only sell to people who are fans of the Xi Gundam's design, and there aren't many of those.

what? The V2 doesnt share any parts with the Victory besides the polycaps. its a pretty solid kit with loads more poseability than any other V2 out there and only has one weak joint in the waist that needs to be tightened. the V2AB is pretty much the same but the extra armor gets in the way of some movement and it needs stickers on the sheild, thats it.

>>
>>14561369

Let's face it, like 90% of the people who would be interested in that Northern Pod gayness, want it for the GM heads. And then they're going to be turned off because Bandai had one job, to make the GM heads have clear visors so they actually look good instead of HGUC Blue Destiny 1-tier, and they couldn't do that. So instead of not earning .0002 cents they're going to not earn 500 yen or however much that shit costs.

These new BF kits and packs are an absolute blunder aside from the Gyancelot and the Eastern Weapons pack.

>>14561398

No, literally no one likes it.

Kids don't like it because kids only care about Gundams, they don't care about GMs because GMs are for dorks.

People who like GMs won't like it, because the GM visors aren't clear, so the only part anyone would want, looks dog shit.

Modelers casual and hardcore alike will hate it, because the set as a whole is dumb looking and will take an inordinate amount of effort to make look good.

Only reviewers will buy it.

Weathering is a bit too heavy and out of scale IMO (almost looks like it was dragged out of the ocean, except there isn't enough rust)

Tension and friction. Think of it kinda like a bionicle joint, where the ball goes into the socket, and will stay there, but can be removed if you pull on it hard enough.

Out of scale as in an 18m tall robot wouldn't be a lot cleaner near the top. You probably wouldn't have so much rust and dirt on the shoulders and heard as opposed to the feet and legs.

Zudah only has it because it apes the Zaku I in order to look primordial to the Zaku line. Don't know why Zaku 1 has it other than to look older and simpler, but often there's some process of basing it on a thing, then slowly committeeing the design until it barely resembles that.

Still don't get why an MS-03 has more in common with MS-06 than MS-05. But they've been busy correcting and re-correcting the lineage anyway.

Yeah. It's an awful kit but I had a spare black mono-eye cavity piece from buying the mass production type first, so I never needed that awful black sticker. Mass production version has more range of motion in the legs.

Aaaaaand fuck funnels
Jesus, I just remembered I have 6 more of these things courtesy of the add on I got for the Nu Ver Ka, but I don't think I'll ever build them

Anyways, these decals are really a pain to apply, especially the ones at the extremes, as they are supposed to wrap around the very end of the funnels. Unfortunately, some ripped down a little right there, I just hope it isn't too noticeable.

Also, I wanted to topcoat at least 2 of the damn things today, but it has been raining nonstop, so that will be until the next weekend

newfag question here

is applying the stickers and decals extremely important to the looks of a model or do they just add some small details?

does anyone have a pic comparing a model with and without sticker applying?

I never liked putting stickers on stuff, always felt like I missed the placing
>>
>>14565512
It's completely dependent on the kit. Bookmark Dalong and look at his kit information before buying.
>>
>>14565512
on dalong's website, every review has the kit with stickers and without them down at the end
>>
>>14565512
It usually depends on the model, but usually Real Grades to Perfects are very decal heavy. High Grades are usually very light on the stickers
>>
>>14565512
I'd say that, if you're not painting or doing any other work, foils are the most important thing to include. They tend to be the most prominent color additions, and often serve as a replacement for something that should've been a different piece. The other decals, usually warning stickers and unit markers, are for less important for achieving the right look.

The one major exception is when you've got a simpler design with larger monocolor sections. Say, a Zaku II. In the case of kits like that, otherwise simple decals like white lines can be pretty significant in terms of their impact.

My suggestion would be to start with the obviously important stuff and then judge if you're happy. How you detail is up to you. So, just apply sticker X to, say, the left leg and then do it to the right leg. Is that enough or might you want to add another one? Move from larger and more obvious stickers to more discrete ones and eventually you find where you're comfortable.

As an example from the RG Zeta, the stuff in red is significant. A few of them can be skipped, but most of that section makes a big difference.

The yellow section are also valuable, but less critical. The rest of it are more forgetable details. Also, smaller stickers often like to peel unless you use setters and coat the kit, so no need to feel bad about not using them. The RG kits are overload.

Try being in a general with snapshit for a year, watching him chase out the legitimate builders. I love gunpla and of course I have fun with it, but it's the same as any hobby. It's fun and rewarding to see good work be done. It's fun to see new builders testing the waters, which is why we give legitimate criticism and hope that they can get better and have more fun too. It's irritating to see shitposters promote mediocrity and stagnation in their building. Remember when the shitty Palace Athene triggered us? When Red Cliff was "as bad as it gets"? It's one thing to fuck up really badly and slowly get better. It's another entirely to put zero effort into your models.

When somebody posts thick paint or nubs, we respond with constructive criticism. We don't tell them to quit the hobby and stop ruining models because we assume that obviously they want to get better. Learning is a part of life and there's nothing wrong with fucking up to learn. Someone who wallows in ignorance and whores and/or spams for attention is a shitposter and will be treated as such. This general has had a cancer growing on it for a long time and none of us are happy about it, so yeah some of us are angry. Does that answer your question?

>>
>>14565978
Don't listen to >>14565986 there is no generic goto weathering, it doesn't have to be subtle.

You're "weathering" it depending on the scenario, ie if it's fought in a desert or space etc. Rust is generally going to accumulate where water won't dry very quickly (joints and area with lips where moisture/water will build up) whereas yours looks a little random. If you're going for damage, you'd have scratched areas where dirt would probably fill up areas not rust. Also your scaling is a too large and builds up too strongly/suddenly.

Generally I just look at vehicles for inspiration. Ie pic related has dirt/rust/oil build ups near joints and contact areas, but the sides are generally clean with just some dusty streaks.

But to each his own, I still suck at weathering.

I'm guessing the implied argument was that snapshit/shitposter makes extra gunpla threads that everybody falls for every single time, diluting the community between a series of threads, and is just generally poisonous so nobody wants to bother posting their shit.

"I probably should have been more clear in the video that this is a total experiment. A lot of people say "do this, don't do that", but not as many people follow through with the "why" behind what we do when customizing kits. When I do my next build series (under the Buildgunpla playlist), these restrictions won't be in place. It's going to look rough, and that's the point. >gold stickers
What, no? We've known for weeks that it's a multi-step insert system with gold being laid, generally, on top of red and there are hollow sections for the piano black to go over top.

Also, this is the first I see of the decals. Yeah, I don't think I'll be using any except for, maybe, the fuel pod ones. Pretty sure this kit will look much better pure.
>>
>>14560710
Heat the spray can in a stove. This will compress the molecules and you'll have a finer and more precise spray! It'll stick to the surface better also.
>>
>>14567049
>heat compressed anything in a stove
That seems like a terrible idea. Like putting soda in the freezer bad, only having paint in your stove is probably much worse.
>>
>>14567049
Heat doesn't condense molecules you idiot, it expands them, so heating the can would thin out your paint.

I'm cautiously on board with this RG. I love the RG line to death, but this is the type of stuff I'm worried about. Thankfully there is two toned red, but the fact it took me this long to find out is scary. I don't want this to be an overpriced HG with better articulation. The gloss and gimmicks are nice, but aside from the quality, I look forward to just how can they reimagine these suits. I love how they updated favorites like Mk.II, the Zeta, or the Strike with better and stylishly modern-ish looks. Busy, but subtly so. The stickers were never overkill for me as well, they often helped sell the kit, actually. This RG just doesn't have that panel separation or the stickers.

This custom MG Ver Ka looks more RG than the RG. However, this is the look I expected.

I still like the kit, though, just a few grievances and fears I think others will have.
>>
>>14567096
Where else would you have liked a different shade of red? Far as I'm concerned, more color differentiation would damage the suit's aesthetics.

That said, it would be nice if we could move even further away from stickers and decals by having white inserts for the various marker lines on the legs and other accent points.

>>
>>14567049
>>14567059
>>14567060

I don't know if its bad English, trolling, or if he's just an idiot, but what you do is you warm the can in a bowl of warm to hot tap water (But not scalding or boiling hot, that is dangerous and can lead to the can exploding). This gives you a finer spraying mist for thinner coats and smoother spray. Its an old spraycan technique that a lot of model builders use.
>>
>>14566944
It still kinda bothers me that we're getting an RG Sinanju when the HG is already pretty damn good

That would be appropriate on the Sinanju Stein, however you have to remember that Zeon refitted the suit to match their style. Every iteration of the Sinanju thus far have had the Zeon style rounded hands. The fact that the RG has fixed hands are round Zeon type and the posable ones are the Federation type is just laziness or a simple oversight.

Finishing the HG FAG. Also today I bought:
>HG Unicorn
>HG Airmaster
>SD Knight Unicorn
>>
I fucked up and definitely need tweezers in the future
>>
>>14569468
If you're placing stickers, dip them in water first. It won't affect the adhesive any, but you can place them with better precision before pressing down to remove the water. Also yes, use tweezers.

Nah, I tried sanding these miniscule boosters and they got away. Instead I'm holding them with alligator clips and chewed away with knippers. THANKS THOUGH

Finishing up my RG Astray Red Frame. I went a little overboard with the panel lining (dalong level) because the panel lining markers are awesome, but it's basically a testbed for me.
>>
>>14569476
Is this true?
>>
>>14569490
I want to like Astray, but all I ever see is the Sengoku Astray and I don't like that one

Okay, let's see that progress, lads.

Just made my first Gunpla ever, just chose the cheapest one from Barnes&Noble down the street for $15.. I know I could've gotten a cheaper one online but I didn't feel like waiting on shipping for a hobby I don't know if I'd enjoy, but I did!

Can't read moonspeak but the box says it's a Kimaris or something... Anyways, I haven't sanded any nibs yet, or painted or anything, but I was wondering if anyone here has any custom paints for this guy to give me an idea for my first paint job.. I have some craft paints gf works in Michaels so 5-finger discount and like one or two enamel colors...and I'm using only an x-acto knife to cut shit

Anyways, feedback would be enjoyed :) maybe what model I should move on to next? I kinda either wanted to do HG Grimgerde or RG MSN-06S Sinanju he's expensive but I think he's pretty!

Trying to decide on either Gouf Custom or Revive
>>

The HG Grimgerde is a fun build, definitely give it a look. Since you're fond of red, I would also reccomend a Sazabi of amy grade, they're always fun.

Not him, but probably because the GM and GM kai look fairly different, and the 2.0 is a much newer and nicer kit than the kai
>>
So what does your gunpla/plamo toolboxes look like, /m/? What'cha got in it?
>>
>>14569657
Get to work on your nubs, read a few guides on how to do panel washes for doing those panel lines, and also don't be a fucking parasite on society - pay for your shit. Your GF has an actual discount, there's no reason to steal things.
>>
>>14569516
The Red Frame itself is pretty good, but I can see why you might not like the Sengoku Astray.
>>
>>14569657
don't steal worthless paint you dummy

most stuff is just laying on either one of the two tables
>>
>>14569657

Stay away from craft paints, their too thick for models due to their pigment size and leave a horrible finish.
>>
>>14569675
What're those white pieces on the top right?
>>
Ok anons, what kit and scale would you like to have announced no matter what the IP? Bonus points for notGundam.

I'd love a MG Helldiver, the UN spider tank in patlabor 2 and the spider tank from the first ghost in the shell movie. In 1/35. A 1/12 gecko from MGS4, and all the other main metal gears in 1/100, from Main series ones like TX 55 to offshoots like the Gander.

More 6 inch Dunbine and L-Gaim kits that aren't trash.
>>
>>14571331
More Eva-03 and Eva-04 kits, Scarab from halo, and a Zeta kit that isn't fragile as fuck.
