No, only a short cameo by Admiral Hunter

The worst part about liking this isn't knowing that HG will never get their shit together, it's watching /m/ gleefully cheer as each new project fails to materialize.

Was this ever released in Japan? One would assume it would have to be a Mospeada title there...

Nothing was ever confirmed. There was all sorts of people bouncing up and down the old Robotech.com forums about how Shadow Chronicles was a 'major hit' in Japan and how there were a decent number of Japanese Robotech fans, but every time someone would ask where they got this information from or a link to any Japanese websites that showed any evidence of appreciation to Robotech, they would just clam up or adamantly insist that what they're saying is true and you just have to go with them on blind faith.

Then again, its obvious from the final product that this film was designed to be completely copyright-issue free by eliminating all traces of the previous series and making it a more direct Mospeada sequel. Even the introductory synopsis at the beginning of the film is so chopped down that its actually pretty misleading; they display the date as 2044A.D. but they follow it by giving these vague references to 'mysterious alien forces' and then fast forward to "a generation later" talking about an Expeditionary force that nobody but Robotech fans know about. Its pretty obvious they wanted to make this movie a Robotech sequel but stand-offish enough so that it could be marketed as its own thing for mass marketing, even if it does require you to be familiar with quite a bit of the source material to really understand what's going on (not to mention the prequel comic specifically designed to build up the movie).

The truth of the matter is nobody really knows a whole lot about the film because Harmony Gold was incredibly hush-hush before and after its release. Nobody knows how far it was shown, how much money it took to make it, or even the returns it made in direct-to-DVD sales.

I only wish there was more porn.

But the second half was interesting, admittedly. Too bad it ended on a forever-open ending. The Academy sidestory/game bombed, and so did the planned sequel itself.

Lots of RT fans have got it in their heads that since Tatsunoko congratulated Harmony Gold for making their niche shows into a more successful animated series in America (well for 1984), that this makes everyone in the entire company legit fans of the material. And if that's so, then surely there must be Japanese fans elsewhere that love it. However, the only reason Tatsunoko is likely even giving Robotech any kind of praise is because Harmony Gold still has to compensate them for using their Mospeada and Southern Cross designs, which essentially gives them money for dead IP they're not even using, and to a franchise like Robotech they really can't market in their country. Its just extra money for them. They really don't promote Robotech at all.

>>14560282
Except Macross Frontier, which came out at the same time as Shadow Chronicles, had much better animation and texture work than Shadow Chronicles did.
>>
>>14560265
Lying isn't nice Anon. The Shitow Chronicles had absolutely atrocious animation.

Not to mention Macross Zero, which came out before.

I'd pick a shorter clip of Shadow Chronicles, but this is really the only clean footage I can find to compare.

Now that I think about there are probably more Southern Cross fans in Japan than Robotech fans.
>>
>>14560391
Actually, one thing I notice is that whereas Macross Delta will often have a static camera in battle showing the fighters swooping around, Shadow Chronicles has a lot more long takes following their fighters in battle, making it look more Top Gun-y.

Of course, and the only way that Harmony Gold can utilize their trademark over Macross is dishing out comics, shit toys, and various merchandise. I don't even know why the Masters Saga New Generation people are even on board anymore since there is very few material and stories for their favorite arcs. They wanted to believe so hard that this new deal the company made with Titan Comics would give them more Southern Cross or Mospeada stuff, but surprise, all the concept art for the future comic projects are all Macross.

And yes, pic related is one of them.
>>
>>14560439
How is that even an advantage when your designs and animation look dull, and that the only action your fighters do is stay stationary most of the time while they fire missiles? And when they are actually in 'motion' they're really just stuck in the same pose forever.

More Mospeada fans, really. Southern Cross hasn't gotten any attention at all from tatsunoko. Mospeada actually got a blu-ray remaster in Japan, along with a scant few merch and mentions from the press.

>Is that Kakizaki in the foreground?

No, that's actually supposed to be Hikaru. I really can't tell if this was a genuine mix-up or if they're actually changing the designs up a bit so that they actually have something remotely original.

>And why is Roy wearing Misa's uniform?
Both Misa and Minmei really look like femboys. I have no idea what's going on in the artists' mind when he made these designs, or HG when they approved it, but the sad part is I actually find it interesting and want to see if a single comic book is really going to have them looking like that. Because that's my fetish.

If they wanted to be sitting ducks and get shot at, yes. Whenever the Alphas in Shadow Chronicles transform into either battloid or guardian modes they really don't do anything at all except unleash constant missile massacres while being perfectly still. They don't strafe, use their pulse cannons, or engage in any type of maneuvers. The most activity that they were given was with Maia Sterling's Shadow Fighter in a short 10 second action sequence near the beginning and that's it. Unless you count moving forward and backing up as superb fighting techniques.

There's at least one legit Robotech fansite in Japan: Robotech Chronicle.

http://seesaawiki.jp/harmony-gold_japan/

It actually has a pretty good repository of artwork from all over the place. Like, if you're looking for the really obscure Southern Cross robots (like, those not used by the ATAC, TASC, or GMP) you can find them there. They're tiny images, and sketchy, but at least they exist.

Ouch. I really feel sorry for this guy, but I have to hand it to him; he's one helluva dedicated guy. He's reverse translated whole products, comics, books, and constructed numerous timelines dissecting differences between Macross, Southern Cross, Mospeada, and Robotech as a whole. Not to mention an immensely extensive interesting into anything and everything respectively. This is one helluva an archive.

Plus, he's not the obnoxiously delusional Robotech fan type. He knows full well about the Harmony Gold/Tatsunoko vs Studio Nu/Bug West fiasco and he's actually trying to promote awareness in reshaping the franchise to where it either has to try and patch things up with the Japanese companies for Macross designs, or just reshape everything from scratch instead of the "Let's just keep everything quiet and pretend we can still use the material" approach like HG is doing.

>crazy plan to bring the rt and macross fandoms together.

Doesn't really sound like a bad idea, considering that's kinda what needs to happen in order for both properties to sell respectively without trumping one or the other off completely. However, its not likely to happen since both are so knee-deep in drama with no real desire to acknowledge the other's existance, along with Harmony Gold adding fuel to the fire and Nu and West building barricades against them.

For the sake of curiosity, though, what does she have in mind?
