Why is Kanuka acting like a cunt?
>>14557720
Cause she got beat in a video game.
>>14557720
that's Not-Kanuka

That's not not-Kanuka. It's not-Noa.

I recently watched the Patlabor early days OVA and the 2nd movie ( because that's all I can find, for some reason ).
How does the TV series compare? Is it as weird with sea monsters, educational ghosts? Should I just watch the next ova and the movies?
>>14558002
The TV series is more of Early Days, just refined with more budget. It's a pretty decent slice-of-life /m/ show. The second OVA series is a continuation of the TV series because it was that popular.
As far as patlabor is concerned, you should just watch everything, even the 3rd movie. I think they can be watched in any order and they'll still make sense, but if you're worried about continuity, refer to the english Wiki page.

>with more budget
Don't fucking lie to him. The animation takes a nose dive in a lot of places.
That said if you liked the OVA you're gonna like the TV series.

>( because that's all I can find, for some reason ).
bakabt has everything.
>How does the TV series compare?
TV series is probably the height of the series. A bit formulaic. But it's a lot of fun.
Ova 2 is season 2 of the TV series, and inclues a LOT of sequels and callbacks to the tv show, so it's essential to see the tv show first. Also Ova 2 is probably the high point for the series. TV show level fun + high budget animation = omg yes.
I made a short and concise diagram to explain you my views on this project
>>14558643
what about rotoscoped cglike in the opening of the patlabor 2 movie
>>14558002
It's not like there's a main focus on the sea monsters and ghosts. It is very episodic so it is inevitable some of the episodes try something weird or take the piss.
Hope you enjoy slice of life though. It tends to be really really mundane for most part.
Can't get worse than Patlabor TNG which CGI'ed the fucking chow fun.
>>14558825
Wow, that doesn't look very convincing.
Why don't they switch to giant semi-automatics? Like what if they need to fire 10 bullets? They need to get with the times and switch to something like a giant .40 S&W round like .400 S&W
>>14558842
Aesthetic choice probably. At the time, I think policemen all used standard issue revolvers so they had the Patlabors match up.
>>14558842
Japanese police officers only carry revolvers so HEADGEAR probably based it on that.
Military Labors have semi-autos or mounted machine guns.
>>14558851
>>14558849
Must be nice to not have to switch because of peaceful living conditions.
I was wondering why Ingram got Robot Damashii all of sudden.
Sneaky Bandai.
>>14558842
Revolver cannon, as with most things Patrol Labor related, is primarily an intimidation weapon that ends a crisis before a shot is fired.
Also Japan has ridiculous gun policies.
Also a revolver is admittedly a lot more simple and reliable in construction vs a semiautomatic handgun design, ignoring scaling concerns.
>>14558858
Back in the late 80s, early 90s when Patlabor was made, revolvers were still commonly used police guns.
>>14558842
They actually discuss this in Mini-Pato.
>>14558953
Kinda funny how most of the Mini-Pato is talking about impractical the Revolver Cannon and it's supposed caliber is.
>>14558870
Not a bad news if Bandai also rerelease old MG kits.
>>14557653
>Fem Goto voiced by presumably Hayashibara Megumi
>Back-up by a pony-tailed cutie who is most likely bratty
>Characters still look like they're drawn by Yuuki Masami
I'm mildly optimistic

Daicon?

because man-sized revolvers are fucking hilarious

The closest we'd get for another Daicon film I guess
Did enjoy every bit of the references

>The closest we'd get for another Daicon film I guess
Sadly, you're right.
This thing was surprise, surprise done as a collaboration between χαρα and Trigger guys.
Modern Gainax is a lost cause and those two studios have long went separate ways to do something as a whole ever again.
>>14567846
I really like the low angle perspective and camera shakes when the ingram moves.

>Original TV mecha designs
>Soundtrack that sounds like is was ripped out of the late 80's
>Classic SV2 uniforms
Well, it's a start.
>>14558687
It can look good as long as it's being used as a guide for good animators and not a crutch for bad ones.
>>14563320
Not to mention pointing out how if they REALLY wanted to design a realistic mecha the Ingram is still pretty impractical, despite how much credit Patlabor gets for being one of the more grounded franchises.
>>14564314
I could live with a sex reversal of Noa and Asuma, as long as the core of the dynamic is maintained. Probably better than another attempt to clone them.
