Last one reached the bump limit.

Spoilers abound, so be prepared. On that note, TK reached such a new low over the movie even jeb bush is laughing at them.

The movie has a really cool Gyo/Kiyoshi Kurosawa esque ending where after Godzilla is beaten, his tails erupts and little humanoids creatures emerge.

It's left as a cliff-hanger, but who knows if they'll ever follow it up.

I'm not shocked at all, knowing Anno and how big of a fucking dork he is when it comes to Godzilla. Of course the guy would make him OP.
>>
>>14552509
Well, keep in mind that Shin is not fully-fleshed out. If anything, that's why he's a walking laser light show, because he was trying to do a strong beam but went out in any openings, like in GMK.
>>
>>14552700
Source: my ass.
>>
>>14552444
Now divide Godzilla's screen time in G14 by almost half (to account for various obstructions) and sprinkle it throughout a two hour film (30 min longer than the average G film) where he is merely a side note in what Gareth Edwards designed as a standalone flick. It makes all the difference in the world. It's not just time on screen. It's how it's used.
>>
>>14552715
I know, but at least it would explain why the largest Godzilla would have a laser-pointer breath.
>>
>>14552694
Godzilla has always been op though. He's only canonically died twice Gojira, and Vs. Destroyah. Only in the former does he die because he's been defeated. The best that's usually accomplished is just driving him back into the ocean to come back in a couple years. Hell in GMK it's implied he's able to regenerate from just a beating heart because who needs a nervous system?
>>
>>14552749
Well, GMK was one that was made out of ghost hate, so I wouldn't apply too many rules to it.
>>
>>14552700

which board on 2ch is the movie board or Godzilla discussion board? I need to learn more about this tadpole stuff.
>>
An American over at Scifi Japan summarized a bit:
>Opens with an underwater explosion, releasing the red substance. Some of this spills into a tunnel and gets on people.
Still not sure what it was, since my Japanese is minimal at best. The film wasn't "boring", but there are a LOT of meetings/discussions, and if you don't understand Japanese...
Lots of old music themes, and the original roar.
Godzilla starts out tadpole-like, in the sense that he has big eyes, back legs, long tail, and gills. At one point, the gills release the red substance. It kind of crawls it's way through town, just pushing itself with its back legs. Makes a few attempts to stand up, and finally does, sprouting tiny arms. Goes back in the water.
Glows red, then purple, then yellow for a little bit. Breath starts as breath, then fire, then that concentrates into a purple laser as its lower jaw splits in two. Can also fire lasers from its back. After a large attack, he seems to turn to stone, with the color draining and him standing motionless. Later in the movie, it shoots laser from both mouth and tip of tail.
They develop some sort of chemical to freeze Godzilla. They knock him down, then trucks with cranes in them pump the chemical into his mouth. After a couple of attempts, they succeed.
The very last shot is silently panning up Godzilla's frozen body, and you see frozen partial human skeletons reaching out in agony from Godzilla's tail, and many of them have Godzilla's spines.
>>
I actually find the whole baby to adult thing cool. Its a neat concept, especially for Godzilla.

Hey, I've seen the movie. I don't speak Japanese so I can't really add much more than what's been said, but I will say that the movie is kind of funny. Anno uses a lot of weird zooms into people's faces during the boardroom meetings that made me laugh.

Honestly, those scenes aren't really that boring, even though I couldn't understand them without subtitles, because there's a nice mis-en-scene quality. Almost Tati like.

Honestly, it's an amazingly directed film, although, there is some SHIT CGI, not a ton, but a few shots are Asylum level. I wish there was more tokusatsu, because the best shots of Godzilla are the giant prop and miniatures.
>>
>>14552900
Well they did three variants of 14 to ride the hype train so hoping they do the same with Shin

Jimpluff's Non-Spoiler Review:

In some ways the rumors spread about Shin Gojira are right. There ARE a lot of meetings, and in many ways (contrary to superficially wild changes), this is indeed quite a conventional film.
But what spoilers and script readers don’t tell you is that this film is beautifully shot and edited, dripping with Anno’s masterful touch from scene to scene. It’s fast-paced, frenetic, bitingly satirical, and tense. “Boring meetings” in Anno’s hands are whiplash exchanges of information and rebukes among government officials, and the camerawork adds to the excitement.
The characters are surprising colorful and, even just in meetings, they come alive through action and expressive (or cold, intentionally stiff) delivery depending on the person.
I need subtitles to fully appreciate the dialogue and story, though. This is a talky movie and mostly above my vocabulary level in Japanese. In essence, Japan finds itself a country incapable of handling its own defense and decision-making in an effective way. As things grow more dire, outside pressure mounts, and Japan’s existence is threatened.
The performances are largely quite good. I’m surprised the movie is being called realistic, though–the characters are all exaggerated and intense. This works for me. More another time.
The effects range from passable (some CGI fails to impress) to fantastic when properly mixing CG and practical effects (and presenting them in clever ways).
The music is a mix of old and new–even Evangelion music appears! And the classic Gojira sound effects and Showa tracks somehow work. They’re kind of out of place in a way, but it’s also chilling.
There will be controversy about a few things. Maybe you know what they are already. Purists will be bugged, but see the movie yourself before turning against this exciting, fresh film. It has plenty of old and plenty of new, but what sets it apart is the masterfully artful direction.
>>

Jimpluff's Spoiler Thoughts:

It’s structurally the same as Gojira. A specialized scientific substance takes Godzilla down. I just wanted him to get away.

At the end, he’s basically crystallized in Tokyo, and on his tail we see many… well, they look like human-Godzilla hybrids. What does this mean? I don’t know, but I hope the fact that he’s not vaporized and that there seem to be more secrets means maybe this incarnation isn’t done just yet. I hope.
>>
>>14552938

Yeah, that's the one. Not even remixed. They use the original Godzilla theme to from King Kong vs Godzilla.
>>
>>14552926

I hope Shin Godzilla 2 ends with Trump leading MechaMAGA to battle Godzilla
>>
Also, one one, last thing. The wonky CGI is mostly with the Godzilla junior. He moves too quickly and it looks weird.

There is also a terrible show of a bomb being dropped on godzilla by a fighter jet from orbit. For whatever reason he's fucking floating when it impacts. It's a split second shot but it is Asylum-tier.

You see it for less than a minute really. It sprouts arms and legs from the tadpole, and learns how to walk and then waddles to the ocean. Reminded me of Junior from SpaceGodzilla, honestly.

I'm going to see it again tonight. I loved it, but there was no one at my 9am showing, so I'm scared. I think they'd do a sequel if this is successful, so I'm really puling for it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLrqCX10yJw Why the hell was this ending not used in Godzilla vs Biollante? The "special effects" being pretty much fully animated looks neat and it's far more climactic than the official ending.

The movie as a whole felt like it had an "aware that it's ridiculous, but also trying to be genuienly cool and fun" feeling to it, but the "Godzilla wakes up but just decides to walk away, good times" ending was just anti-climactic and dumb. I wonder if they were forced by higher-ups to make an alternate ending at the last moment for whatever reason and they just quickly shit something out.
>>
>>14553209
People in twitter (japanese people) are discussing this: arguing that Its not nationalistic in the political sense beyond the USA having that mysterious superpower image, as the japanese government is mocked beyond belief and some even say that it does so with slapstick comedy and that even children wanted to see more of the "company men"(the goverment suits we follow through the film). The PM is prtrayed as a scumbag presumably.

The film is argued to be more about solidarity to people in need and standing together, no doubt infuenced with how it happened in real life with the last disaster, and because of the duty the japanese burdened themselves at the time, some started using the word nationalistic with pride (they´re even writing it in Katakana), but its actually more about solidarity than about the nation.

One guy posted, "Its not like it was Independence Day"

Personally I think touches like playing the theme from Astro monster in the climax (which sorts of sounds like a nationalistic march) made a wrong impression in some people concerned with that issue.

To keep it short, Japan PM is shit who doesnt want US help because of petty reasons, MC believes people have to cooperate, but finally, they have to take matters on their own as the US decides they should launch a Nuke, to which the MC is against because that would kill innocent people.
All governments are baddies.

>>
PM is shown as indecisive and dumb but is willing to work with the US (doing so jndirectly kills him) and even has the SDF stand down at one point when it turns out that two civillians haven't evacuated the area yet

His actions are understandable becausr they have no idea how much of a threat godzilla is until he goes full ideon which is what kills the PM

Germany lets japan use their supercomputers, france helps stall the nume attack, yanks want to nuke but would do so even if this was NY and still help in operation yashiori (it's thanks to their drones that they can get godzilla to waste energy so they can attack him)
>>
Final (fourth) form has the godzilla theme playing

Final showdown had SDF theme

Credits have original versions of both

Also a recurring BGM that has different versions building up as the movie goes on is VERY close to Decisive Battle

Arguments are that the people who like Shin Godzilla will mindlessly accept anything Toho does but would throw a hissy fit if Legendary (or some other company) had Godzilla evolve or fire purple lasers out of his tail. ShinGoji isn't Godzilla, he's some laughable, try hard generic monster if you listen to these people. Never mind that he has the traditional appearance (except more grotesque), the iconic roar, and the nuclear origins. I don't think anyone would look at ShinGoji, especially in action, and mistake him for anything else. He's clearly Godzilla and somewhat resembles Godzilla '54. Toho experimented with his background before (Godzillasaurus in GvKG and possessed by spirits in GMK) and the military brought him down with poison in Return of Godzilla and Godzilla vs Biollante. The beam spamming is just taking the nuclear pulse to the next level.

Literally in every way the most successful Godzilla film of the Millennium Era, received awards in its home country and positive reception abroad, and regularly listed as a fan favorite. Better written/acted human characters and executed special effects than anything in the Heisei Era (besides Biollante maybe). Shit movie? Sure. Still upset King Ghidorah wasn't a villain? Godzilla vs King Ghidorah did it first.

Everything the SDF throws at him literally can't make a scratch. The only time any damage is done to him is when the yank B2s drop bunker busters on him which damage him once. Up till then he didn't even seem to register anything as a threat and was just waddling around, but after the bunker busters he does his Ideon impersonation and nothing can hit him at all (all the bombs AND bombers are shot down by his fin beams, plus the PM and most of the cabinet are killed by this too).

He can breathe both fire (regular fire) and the purple beam which is a focused version of the fire. The first time he does the fire thing he incinerates a massive area and it's depicted like the city destroyer beam from Independence Day. The purple beams (mouth, fin and tail version) don't burn but cut, basically the same thing as the god warrior beam but without the huge explosions at the end.

They defeat him by throwing drones at him until he runs out of energy, then use train bombs and controlled demolition of skyscrapers nearby to knock him over so they can force-feed him a thing to freeze him.
>>
>>14553491
You see, adhering to idolising the original movie that much just degrades it. Yes, it is a great movie and all that, but it should be made obsolete instead of trying to leech off from it. You may want to see the same Godzilla coming back, but that's stupid. Godzilla was a monster of its time, and each era should have its own monster that represents that era, be it Godzilla or not. Godzilla is indestructible as an idea and in motifs, the monster itself doesn't really matter. As such, each movie is needed and required to stand on its own feet, and if they don't, they're just another sequel that couldn't do anything on their own and lack vision.

They take the piss out of Abe. Not even just politicians in general but fucking Abe specifically. The PM puts on blue overalls for the press conferences and such after the first attack. Abe was criticised like fuck after 3/11 when he did just that to act as if he was actually helping out with the recovery when he was just sitting on his ass in a safe place all day every day.
>>
Oh right about the name- It's a Japanese guy (a professor who went missing) who names Godzilla. Gojira is the name of an angry god from his hometown, and he also gave it the English name Godzilla because angry GOD duh. The yanks get hold of his info first so they know the name before Japan. Japan ends up calling it Gojira because Godzilla is hard to pronounce.
>>
>>14553607
Is all this true? If so, Anno got away with quite a bit. Criticizing the government to such extent. And despite this he managed to get the full support of JSDF in making this film. Seems like there will be plenty of things to talk about in Shin Godzilla beyond the changes made to the titular character and action. Maybe it is a masterpiece. For anyone who has seen it, how does it compare to Gojira (1954)?
>>
>>14553635
>. And despite this he managed to get the full support of JSDF in making this film.
You do realise that the SDF is pretty anti-Abe, right?

The first half of the film (the first attack) is basically a black comedy making fun of Japanese politics (mostly old politicians, but there's also a short bit taking the piss out of dumb college kids who have no fucking idea what they're talking about like SEALDs) and Japanese people in general (evacuation order given, people go up on rooftops to take photos with their phones).
>>
>>14553649

The second half of the film is basically a cross between Godzilla 1954 and God-Warrior in Tokyo.

That doesn't change the fact that today he's a washed up has-been coasting by on his previous successes. Using his status as a household name in the industry and no legitimate talent as a director or writer. Just look at the clusterfuck that is the Rebuild films. All the "cool symbolic" stuff with none of what made Evangelion good in the first place.

He's become like a musician who made one or two hit singles but constantly flops in his attempts at recapturing that old magic because all he can produce are soulless imitations. And Japan won't be blunt enough to tell him he fucked up, because you don't dare say bad things about industry legends over there.

The only argument people have against 3.0 is that the characters treated shinji in an annoying and nonsensical way.

Because 95% of people who watch NGE project themselves into the character that is Shinji, after Shinji was thrust into a situation where people were treating him poorly, unfairly and nonsensically, they were personally hurt and confused. They felt betrayed by all of their favorite characters, and were confused why they would treat him in such a way.

This is how 3.0 is an absolute masterpiece. Just as 2.0 successfully pulled you through a comfy world of girls and overcoming obstacles and made you happy and comfortable, 3.0 just as successfully pulled you into a world of pain and confusion, precisely what Shinji was feeling during 3.0. It is a magnificent achievement in art that people feel exactly what the main character is feeling while the main character is feeling it, the sense of confusion and pain that Shinji is feeling is 100% projected onto the viewer.

Plebians are unable to separate themselves from the perspective of Shinji and look at Hideaki's artwork from the outside, so they turn their pain and confusion into dislike, aka cognitive dissonance(what christians feel when they see literature on natural selection).

This is why a true patrician understands the magnificent piece of art that 3.0 is, and the difficult task that it has achieved of pulling you directly into the feelings of the MC.

Calling it a parody is pretty extreme. And the situation Shinji found himself in wasn't much different than episode 1 of NGE. Being tossed aside, not being told all the info, distrusted and confused.

All it really did was drop Shinji back down to where he started, with much heavier and now-justified guilt on his back, feeling even more justified that his non-action is better for everyone since the one time he tried to take iniative he ruined the world, and a drastically different setting and characters.

Your analysis is forced. People dislike 3.0 because it heavily disrupted the canon, had a very different feeling and aesthetic in its setting, left a lot of threads untied and was just underwhelming and forced feeling in a lot of things, like EVA02's beast transformation.

But the reactions are absurd and overstated. There's nothing to hint Anno has lost his ability to direct and to call them bad films is nonsensical. The Eva fanbase always been stubborn and unintelligent, they still think the show's ending and EoE is obtuse, meaningless and 2deep4u.

>Each of the Eva designs and ideas were things you would see on DA.

Canon wise, it did bother me, but I understand that it take place in the future and nothing would be the "Exact same" as it was during 2.0's ending. 3.0 as a whole felt like a huge step back from what 1.0/2.0 built up on.

It's always the western fans too that you see with this attitude. When Legendary released Godzilla 2014 there were articles from fans about how Godzilla was "whitewashed" of his nuclear origins, that portraying him as primarily a force of nature awoken by nuclear technology wasn't in line with the character.

And I was like, "Motherfucker have you SEEN the Godzilla films past the original?" Nuclear allegory hasn't been the central symbolism of Godzilla since the first one. Even Return of Godzilla had him more akin to a natural disaster. The nuclear allegory was placed solely on humans with all the Cold War bullshit.

Now we see it again with Shin Godzilla. Godzilla's got all these batshit insane abilities, and the Japanese are like, "Wow, that's cool." Westerners meanwhile sperg out about how it's "not Godzilla," creating a new little tribe among fans that will shut out all outside views and opinions just like others did about Legendary Godzilla.

Kaijubabby here

I know Godzilla 1954 is good

I watched 60s Godzilla vs Mothra and it was nice but held back by the fact that Mothra does fucking nothing

1984 is alright I guess

Godzilla vs. Biollante's heart was in the right place in its attempt to mix self-aware cheesiness with unironic coolness but ultimately it wasted its huge potential to be amazing with a horrible "why would anyone think this was a good idea" ending and wasting the miniatures on a generic "Godzilla stomping about" scene instead of having the climactic battle take place in a city

I watched the first 90s Gamera movie and it was fantastic, I skimmed through and read about the other 2 and they seem even better and I'm fucking amazed that what started as a poor man's retarded Godzilla could get so fun and well executed

Based on this what Godzilla films do you guys think I would actually like? I decided torrenting Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2002 and Tokyo SOS because they seemed cool and I decided to stop caring about what the fanbase goes "AHH, CLASSIC" at but I dunno if I'll like them and it's gonna take ages for the torrents to finish anyway.

Godzilla x Mechagodzilla and Tokyo SOS are both fun. Not the best but still an enjoyable watch.

The Heisei films past Biollante can be hit or miss but don't go above mediocre. Godzilla vs Destroyah has lots of feels toward the end but otherwise is pretty banal.

The other Millennium films are odd. They're all unconnected outside the two Mechagodzilla ones. G2000 is okayish but Godzilla x Megagurius is god awful. GMK is weird but good and Final Wars will either be completely awesome or utterly dreadful for you. There's no in between.

The Showa era from the original to Godzilla vs Monster Zero are consistently good. However don't watch the US cut of Godzilla Raids Again. It's like trying to masturbate with a power sander. Find the subtitled uncut version if you can.

Past that point the Showa films become hit or miss. Ebirah is an underrated classic and I liked Son of Godzilla despite not being the most exciting film. The absolute most watch films in this category are Godzilla vs Hedorah, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, and Terror of Mechagodzilla. Godzilla's Revenge is the worst film in the series.

Godzilla 1998 is right out. It's cancer on celluloid.

Godzilla 2014 gets shit from the more autistic side of the fandom but it's still a good film. It's like a Showa film played realistically and is a lot like the Heisei Gamera films in overall tone.

I don't think the ending of vs. Biollante was anti-climactic. Godzilla was too weak to keep on going, and they didn't have the means to kill him. It made sense. I can see why they did the cut per >>14553522 and even agree with it. Godzilla needed to remain an anti-hero at best.

That's goal post shifting. Don't misunderstand me, I love vs. Biollante. I remember swapping the vhs we rented from blockbuster when I was a kid with some other crap I wouldn't miss to keep it. But its existence contributed to Vs. Space G happening. It didn't happen with a purpose, but it still happened. Maybe if it had just been magic girl ghost dust floating off when Biollante when she disintegrated we'd be golden. But it wasn't due to the retcon explaining how we got Space G. It's only a mild smudge, I can live with it.
>>
>>14554379
No, it's not goalpost shifting by far, it's how things are. Time, how the fuck does it work? It did not contribute to the existence of Space Godzilla because it did not exist at that point. It's a dirty retcon, and the same applies to Vs Mothra, from where they get the second theory. You should diss the writers at Toho for having such a huge hardon for Godzilla VS Godzilla story during the 80's and 90's.

Ultraman needs an Amazons treatment, something that separates itself from the older Ultra series, and makes a name for itself.

Riders,Sentai, and Ultra are for kids, but Ultraman feels like a show designed and completely intended for preschool children and Nostalgic fans.
I love the designs, it's just the overall show and the way it's presented, that makes it feel "Kiddy".

I was hoping that Will Smith would've pushed harder on his US Ultraman movie idea, but for right now I'm just crossing my fingers for something that can save Ultras as a whole.

I think the franchise is doing well enough that it doesn't need "saving". As it is, The two more grim adaptations we have range from excellent with terrible ratings to absolute dogshit, so I don't think Tsuburaya has much reason to bother with odds like that.
>>
>>14554511
That problem was the same with what happened to Godzilla after GMK.

It needs to be completely separate from the current running Ultraman, and drastically different. Granted, I've never been the biggest Ultraman fan, but I hate to see any franchise be wasted when potential is there.

Something closer to that test reel with saw a long while back, and a more organic design, like a anon said early, it needs to almost be Eva like, but with more human proportions. Instead of The human host "growing larger", something on the lines of The Guyver happens and makes him giant.
>>

You can't be serious.
Capeshit characters don't have a personality in those movies much less morals. Nobody watches for that anyway
>>
>>14554169
Godzilla 2014 divorced human recklessness from Godzilla's existence. All prior versions of the character were natural creatures that were revived and heavily mutated by exposure to nuclear tests. In G14, especially if Godzilla Awakening is canon, Godzilla exists in present form and awakens independent of human activity. Additionally, the United States becomes the heroes. Instead of their nuclear tests being responsible for creating Godzilla (although not explicitly blamed), these "tests" were actually efforts to kill Godzilla in G14.

>>14554661
So what? It's an American movie and doesn't need to retain the same Japanese focused themes the original had.
>>
>>14554663

Nobody cares /co/mblr.

The climax does feel a bit lacking- The tail laser is the biggest "surprise", otherwise there's nothing really flashy. But this is a Godzilla movie, not a Godzilla VS Whatever The Fuck movie, and because it sticks mostly to being realistic they can't whip a giant flying drill submarine out of their asses either. So of course it isn't going to be anything flashy. But it keeps in line with the tone of the rest of the film, and the tone of the film is what makes it good.

There are bits that aren't fleshed out enough though- Ishihara's character is horribly handled, and the missing professor in particular smells like sequel bait.

But it's overall far better than the average Godzilla film. I'd say it's on the same level or even better than 2014 (which I just rewatched last week so it's fresh in my memory). Do keep in mind that they're ultimately completely different types of films, though.
>>
>>14554680
>But it's overall far better than the average Godzilla film
That's not much said. The average Godzilla film is pretty shit.
>>
>>14554698
I'm not saying otherwise.

But I'm seeing a lot of "wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh this isn't godzilla" bashing which sounds pretty fucking ridiculous to me, because I'm taking that as "wahhhhhhhhhhh this good film isn't bad, they should have made a bad film".

This basically >>14554662
>>
>>14554680
> I'd say it's on the same level or even better than 2014

This means absolutely nothing to me since I think the 2014 movie was a complete waste of time and a sorely missed opportunity to make something different and interesting with Godzilla that couldn't be achieved before due to budgetary limitations. You might as well have said "well, it's as good or better than watching paint dry".

Have you ever watched paint dry? It is actually rather interesting to see from which end it starts to dry, how the paint sets into the crevices, how the shade changes as it dries... there's a lot going on in paint drying. Niggers and plebs just can't appreciate it.

Oh wait it was Kan not Abe, goddamned Japanese revolving door politics (that's another thing brought up in the film, incidentally).

Anyway yeah scratch that, nothing on Abe. But the film's still highly critical of Japanese politics and bureaucracy entirely though so >>14553587 is still full of shit.
>>
>>14554667
But those themes aren't necessarily Japanese focused. Ishiro Honda treated them as universal, Japan was the substitute for the world and Godzilla is the product of our "sins" I guess you can call it. He'll always exist as the potential for human depravity will. This has remained a staple of the character whether he served a more heroic or antagonistic purpose in a particular film. Some the sequels may not have addressed this. But they didn't outright change it. And seeing how little focus Godzilla received in G14, it was kind of unnecessary.

Amazons works because it's basically an early Heisei series with more camera filters and less censorship.

Attempts to just make something mature for "Look, it's mature!" sake usually end up in failures. Ultraman already had stuff like UltraSeven X, it won't help.

>>14555094
Japanese box office in general is pretty low. Have you looked at the top 10 recently? There are a few rare exceptions though.
>>
>>14554863
As far as an update to the general concept, its decent. I look at Godzilla 98 the same I do King Kong 1976. It strips away a lot of the more mythical elements and makes it a much more basic monster movie.

That said I don't mind it being that different. Its sort of an alternate take on the whole concept taken from a very core idea, with no influence from any other mvoie beyond the first. Its like if it came from a world where only the first Godzilla existed. Hell, it effectively is considering how off-the-radar the Toho Godzilla movies are to most in the american movie business. Godzilla's invincibility, his appearance( not just a dinosaur, but a hybrid of mammalian and reptile features, with a hint of traditional Japanese oni art) , are all things hammered into tradition via decades of movies. Hollywood took that first godzilla design, isolated the basic elements, the nuclear origin, the "dinosaur" look, the city attack, and attempted a modernized remake. In doing so it stripped the more poignant elements, but I get where they're coming from. Its tone deaf, but I still think they did a decent job.
>>
>>14554169
>the Japanese are like, "Wow, that's cool." Westerners meanwhile sperg out about how it's "not Godzilla,"

I don't mind G14 not being the result of nuclear testing, I thought it was cool that he was an ancient species but I agree otherwise, it seems like that movie had a change of heart halfway through production, I remember the original synopsis was Godzilla being nature's punishment for mankind's arrogance or something like that and the trailers seemed to reflect that, I swore we were going to get something close in tone to Gojira 1954.

I couldn't find the trailer with the ''I am become death, destroyer of worlds'' Oppenheimer speech but this is still fucking hype.

The bland moralfag Captain America solo films (Not counting Civil War since that's basically Avengers 2.5) didn't make anywhere near as much as sarcastic cool moralfag Iron Man solo films.

Funnily enough, G14 made more money than the first one and had a comparable opening weekend to the second one (could have easily performed as well as the Winter Soldier if mixed word of mouth hadn't killed it).
>>
>>14555474
>I don't mind G14 not being the result of nuclear testing
It's interesting how often this happens when the franchise gets imported over to the west. They tend to portray Godzilla as a more "generic" giant monster, like a dragon, often ignoring his origin as a radioactivity-spewing monstrosity spawned from man's hubris.
>>

On the one hand, you could say that the country that invented the atomic bomb and the only country to ever use them is less likely to portray atomic bombs as evil.

On the other hand, we literally invented the radioactive giant monster thing and there were tons of them in America in the 50's. We've just kind of moved on from it, though. Atomic anything hasn't unleashed any horror in America since ever, and people who have spent their whole lives being told to fear nuclear annihilation that never came have become kind of jaded to it.

Most people buy the pamphlet which boosts the value per group up by half a person, and Japanese cinemas have stores selling theatre-exclusive merchandise which can double the value of a single customer with just one sale, and then there are people like >>14553918 who spend twenty times more what the ticket cost.

>with DNA or something that's eight (or eighty, can't remember) times more complex than humans'.
You know what's funny? FROG DNA is more advanced than humans'. Because they have to deal with all that shit of growing from an egg outside a womb or other temperature-regulated container so they need a shitton of genes that activate under different circumstances to regulate growth.

So assuming that this new & crazy iteration of Godzilla happens to spawn sequels (which it likely won't, but let's just assume that it's possible,) how would they go about it and the introduction of new kaiju.

Someone already suggested that the absorbed humans could run off and transform into different variations of the kaiju that we know which seems plausible. Or, assuming that this Gojira is more or less a bioweapon, then maybe other kaiju are the same "species" of bioweapon that happened to radically diverged based on what they consumed. For example, if Godzilla consumed radiation, marine life and people, then maybe a version of this reboot's Biollante is the same thing, but simply happened to consume plant life and solar energy over animals instead.
