I'm a complete newfag to the mecha genre. Aldnoah Zero was kinda shitty, but I did enjoy the whole political aspects and showing 2 different sides of the same war. Are there any mech shows that have these elements and are actually good?
Also, daily reminder that Slaine did nothing wrong.

No.
Very few, if any, mecha shows even come close to A/Z in that aspect.
Legend of Galactic Heroes. The whole thing's on Youtube in HD quality.

Thanks a bunch man. Is there an /m/ wiki or a guide that says the watch order for Gundam?
>>14545092
Gundam, in its entirety pretty much, usually at least tries to do this.
Whether or not certain shows succeed is debatable, but it wouldn't hurt to check out whichever Gundam shows catch your eye, or just start with the original like that anon said.
Honestly though almost anything is a step up from A/Z.

There is a guide image. It's been updated multiple times and is still a WIP as Gundam as a franchise continues. This may not be the latest.
Draw your own conclusions on series.
I would advise
>MSG series first, movies later
>production order watching
>taking a break between Zeta and ZZ

0079. Movies or tv, your pick

I don't know a second thing around Gundams but as far as everything else goes, this chart is amazing.

That's a general recommendation image though, not a production order list. It also doesn't quite fit OP's specifics, I do think.

Of course, it's just nice to keep around once he gets tried of Gundam, I know it did for me.

Lurking /m/ is also a good way to find new material to watch. The 70s & 80s thread, WebM thread, etc. are all good sources of new stuff.

A/Z is the best NTR mecha I've seen.
Oh! Right! Its soundtrack was very pleasant
>>14545168
>Aquarion
>Eureka Seven
>Evangelion
>Infinite Ryvius
>King Gainer
>Macross Plus
>Rahxephon
I can't say I'd recommend any of these. It last being updated five years ago shows.
You know I just realized that Mazinger Z is perfect for this too. The emphasis is put rather well on bot the Photon Light Institute team and Dr. Hell and his men.
The fact that it has actual English subs now is also pretty good. Watch it, it's great.

I liked all the Slaine porn too. He should have been a girl or had a twin sister, though. His design was too fucking good.
>>14545189
You're taste a shit, so no big deal
>>14545092
What was he even trying to do? End war by killing everyone who opposes him? I remember he said some weird bullshit towards the end.
I don't think he actually accomplished anything in 24 episodes beyond making speeches.
>>14545092
I think Super Dimension Fortress Macross might actually fit your bill. Its not as politics focused as AZ was at times, but it does focus heavily on both sides of Space War One.
In a real way, the plot of SDF is about the alien Zentradi themselves, rather than the human protagonists. This is their story, the humans are just agents of change.
Sure is summer on this board

Definitely check out Space Battleship Yamato 2199.
