i like the Gundam Hammer

unfortunate it was so underused

I'm only familiar with the Hammer from Turn A, but it had such a great showing that I couldn't help but be charmed by it.

Maybe that's why it's so underused? So that it can remain being really cool and non-mundane?

Because the dino-saw is more versatile. It's just as good at hitting enemy mechs, but it can also grab and saw off their limbs. Something we saw to great effect in the latter half of the show.

Only problem is the design looks like shit unless you spend all the money and get the Hi-Res kit.

I think it was meant to be a proto-hyper beam saber, since beams were pretty new tech when Strike was created.
Then they kept making them because hey, can't sunrise stance with a normal beam saber. Plus I guess with the advent of laminate armor later on the sheer weight helps.

Beamsabers also wouldn't get stuck on that blunt part. But yeah, the whole weapon exists for no other reason than to look cool. The ASS is one of the more impractical weapons in all of Gundam due to bad design, minus the Impulse's Excalibur.

I do like the whole "beam saber has an emitter end and a terminator end" the ASS and a lot of the beam katanas from No More Heroes had. It's a lot more appealing to me than "manipulating the saber i-field into weird and wacky shapes".

There's no such occurence where beams have passed through objects, beams have always been able to be parried

SF is able to catch the Destiny's sword not just by clapping his hands together, but also because the beam shields are deployed horizontally to stop the blade from moving any further

and don't forget kira using the beam sabre to block beam shots

There's that theory that SEED was originally designed as a more low sci-fi story, so the Sword's sword and the Launcher's gun were going to be SEED's versions of the classic weapons.

And it kinda makes sense in a way. Making a real beam saber is hard, so just get a long hunk of metal and put a beam emitter on it. Miniaturizing a battle ship cannon is also hard, so you can only get it to a size that is technically usable by a MS.

And then they started designing the Aile and just gave it regular beam sabers and a beam rifle and totally shat all over that idea.
