STTGL Giga Drill Break is a fucking disgrace to the show

I'm okay with that design since Mazinkaiser has a bit more greebles than I care for as it is, but I take issue with how they approached the Scrander. Those interior panels or whatever those are look like shit and ruin the set.

I know Getter uses them now and again, but still, these robots generally look so fantastical that them using realistic looking modern weaponry seems somehow almost anachronistic or out of place. Well it is, but other than the colours, Gundam is more subdued than many of the other designs of the era, both in artwork and concept. It doesn't have a giant golden skull for its chest and it doesn't combine, transform, shoot lightning bolts or anything else like that either.

It's a mostly featureless robot with parade colours. Still looks a bit awkward with a gun, but not quite as awkward as Grendizer or Raideen would.

Doesn't combine it transform? It had the core fighter. It had the upper and lower sections. It had the G Fortress. It could even mix and match with the Guncannon and Guntank. Gundam did a lot to move the mecha conversation forward but it was most definitely steeped in the traditions it came from.

It's a standard Dynamic Pro work
The main characters talk like tryhards despite actually being fairly obedient to orders, which was kind of funny

I like SKL's design more than original Mazinkaiser's as well because it actually uses all that extra detail for something: over the top edge, which makes it feel like its own beast instead of another Mazinger. Which it is.

Overall, a pretty cool OVA; I liked it more than a lot of the other Mazinger stuff I've seen
