Western film standards for some reason dictate that in order to have the audience hook onto your movie you need to have them be able to see your actors emote and what not. That's why even Pacific Rim had helmets with large glass fronts that lit up from the inside. Even G Saviour did the same shit with the pilot suits having their helmets have lights on the inside of the helmet so viewers could see the actors' faces, even if lights on the inside of a helmet make no sense because all you'd be doing is causing glare. It's very rare in a Hollywood movie you'll see the hero or any other character besides villains completely masked for the whole film.

I'm not into it.

Even if it wasn't supposed to represent Power Rangers, those costumes just don't look all that good design-wise.

Depending on how good, or bad, it is people will give a shit. Power Rangers isn't quite on the same level as Dragonball Z, but it has quite a sizable "following" among 20 - early 30 year olds. There will be a lot of people who are curious about it depending on how well it's marketed, and just people who are curious about it just because of their "childhood".
It will either have reasonable success if it's good, or people will just make themselves forget it like with Dragonball Evolution.

The film as it was was already not going to be a good film. It might have been a little unique, but you know how else they could have made a unique film? Not doing the goddamn origin story of the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom for the third fucking time including the one that never actually got released. Maybe use one of the other dozens of villains in the Four's roster instead, maybe have them already start with their powers and assume, rightfully, that everyone already knows the origin story. If you think your audience has the memory of a goldfish you can just make the title sequence "On an outer-space adventure they got hit by cosmic rays, and the four were changed forever in some most fantastic ways". It's not exactly a complex story.

Instead Landis wrote a script and Trank directed a film that was the same story we all already know, except with more grimderp. It was still going to be a dreary, joyless film before the meddling.

Landis got a lucky break when his big (family connected) career opportunity picked up and did well. But Chronicle had this amateur charm that worked. Since then his writing hasn't worked for anything else, nor the execution of it. I don't think he's the sole reason his projects suck, but I don't think he inspires much better. It's perfectly understandable them wanting people to watch their job. In the end, for the actors, it's work.
Also, the suits do have a closed mode, like many in PR and even sentai so it's a pointless complaint. Specially considering how bad everything about this movie seems to be.
