I'm not talking about the artstyle, I much prefer Delta's too, but the art has been really inconsistent. One ep the faces look fine, next ep the faces are wobbly and the eyes are missing their highlights in many shots, look empty in close-ups, and more. I'm hoping the BD will fix that, but I haven't seen any promos with comparisons advertising such improvements.

Is it okay to talk about other Macross stuff in this thread?
I just started watching Macross 7 and something's fucking with my mind: in the OP they show DYRL-style Exeldor with the big brain. But then at the start of episode 1 the narration indicates that the war ended in 2010, and the first colonization ship launched in 2012, which goes against DYRL (where the SDF-1 Macross was already a man-made colonization ship when it launched in 2009) and actually fits the TV series' plot (where the colonization plan starts two years after the end of the war). This is some continuity paradox shit right there.

That's the first I ever heard of SDF-1 being different in DYRL. Like the only difference are minute visual differences and the fact that it docked with two ARMD carriers instead of a the prometheus and Daedaleus. The time frame of everything should still be the same.

At any rate SDF was a rather low budget show, while DYRL had a much bigger budget. It thus had way more elaborate designs, which trump the TV series in every case. From giant zentrans being mostly green, to the depiction of their language, to the walkyre pilots' pilot suits, to valkyries all having super parts while in space, to Max and Milias epic duel over the knife fight. Etc.

In the series, the Macross is a Supervision Army (a race of giant aliens engineered by one of the two protoculture factions) ship that crashed on Earth with no crew inside and is rebuilt with a mix of its original alien tech and human tech to be used against whatever potential alien invaders may show up. It launches in 2009 when the Zentraedi attack, the war ends in 2010, and in 2012 Global reveals the UN's space colonization plan to Misa Hayase.

In the movie, the Macross is built by humans as a space colonization ship right of the bat and launches as such in 2009.

Hell, the entire plot is different. In the movie the Earth is destroyed at the very start which completely changes the ensuing story. If the characters didn't have the same faces and names and the iconic ships weren't present, you wouldn't guess that DYRL is supposed to be a re-telling of SDF Macross.

Kawamori liked the the visuals of DYRL. However events are pretty much TV as there is no Zentradi-Meltrandi war. The Zentradi's enemy is still the Supervision Army.

Watch episode 2 as to Exsedol's reaction to their new enemy as it gives an interesting tangent on who they could be.

As for why Exsedol has a big brain Macross Chronicle explaned he went big again in that form so he'll not lose any knowledge he has. He is still a historical advisor for Max as much as he was for Vrlitwhai and Global.

Fair enough. Personally I think both her and Freyja are kind of boring with a while, since while Mirage has never really done anything Freyja has been static with about 10 episodes ever since she achieved her dream of joining Walkure and managed to not embarrass herself on stage. They're both just going along with whatever happens and pining after Hayate, who himself hasn't really done much besides refuse the idea of another pilot in the squadron out of fear of someone filling Messer's place with a while either. A move that isn't really endearing, especially when both Arad and Mirage fail to point out how stupid it is, on both a personal and professional level.

It's a fun show and the war itself is interesting, but the main trio aren't doing it any favors and really need to get off their butts and actually do something. I don't care who wins, but I do wish all of them were more dynamic and interesting.

If this episode had a conclusive moment then like I said I'm not aware of it since I haven't seen it - up till now he's only really seen both as friends though and it's them that see him as more (potentially). The whole thing is kind of boring because he's so dense on the matter and neither is really being assertive or open about it to be honest. I preferred Frontier's take on things, because whether you liked Sheryl or not at least she was assertive and her mannerisms forced Ranka to be to have a chance as well, even if Alto never really reciprocated her feelings. Everyone in this being shy or dense makes it very reactive and dull.

Is there a list of the VFs that appear in Delta? I can't really tell what's what, CGI mechs are just a blob of colors to me. For some reason it's worse now than in Frontier, where I could generally recognize the various crafts. Here the CG (either the colors, the rendering method, the filters slapped on top, go figure) just seems flat to the point that I can't make out details.

I don't know what's wrong with your eyes, but there's only been three different types so far unless you're counting subvariants. CHAOS has the VF-31. NUNS has only been using the VF-171 so far. Windemere only has the Sv-262.

Other craft include the VF-1EX from the test dogfight episode, and the unknown Windemere fighter craft shown in a data recording and some flashbacks. And the VF-22 shown in the last episode during the coronation ceremony of the kid.

MAHQ has a list, but as expected because official lineart is lacking, they have some odd placeholder images for some of the profiles.

The footage of the VF-22 was pretty much confirmed to be legit this episode. It was pretty much confirmed that Wright was involved in it, and that his involvement is bad, because they agree not to tell Hayate about it. This pretty much sets the course for him dropping the bomb.

There's still a big question mark on why, and we're doubltessly missing additional pieces for it to make sense. A popular theory is that Wright was VAR'd, so him dropping the bomb completely confounds the NUNS as well as his old friends. They know he did it, they just can't comprehend why. From Windermere perspective they had millions of their population murdered by the other side's use of an illegal weapon.

So, who's ready for Mirage to chimp the fuck out when she inevitably gets VAR'd, try to kill Freyja specifically in her murderhaze, and make it painfully obvious she's in love with Hayate to everyone and their grandma, until Walkure sings the VAR away?

The burden of carrying the song is not on one person, so instead of one extremely talented singer, all you need is four or more mildly talented singers to reach an acceptable tone.

The result is often a somewhat less soulful product. This isn't true in all cases, but is certainly true in most, Walkure's music being one of them.

Only song I really liked from Delta so far is the first ED. The rest don't really stand out to me much. None of their voices really stand out to me, Whereas May~n and Megumi Nakajima knocked it out of the park every song. Even if an occasional song was mediocre, THEY weren't.

I can't really say the same for the Walkure singers; they're just not as memorable. Even if a song of theirs is good, the actual instrumentals and composition are usually the dealbreaker that made the song, not the vocals.

It's far more likely she's an M character from a previous show. Like Mylene. Or Minmei. Or Misa. Or Millia.

Macross has a thing about M names in case you hadn't noticed. Neither Mikumo or Mirage display the right qualities or are even hinted to be hiding qualities that would make them a leader. In Mirage's case it would directly undercut what little characterisation she has got to have her turn out to be the secret boss all along. And in Mikumo's, it'd undercut Kaname role as leader to do it, since one of the few things she has is being their organiser and coordinator. Making Mikumo the real one who Kaname answers to would just be pointless.
