guys have a point. Why do you think so many edgy teenaged war geeks in the US and UK dream about joining the army and going to war because it's "cool" or something? Because none of them actually know how terrible going to war is, and any war they would be involved with are just going to be ones where they go fight it out in another country. They'll never deal with their homes being destroyed, seeing their families killed. They see the cool guns and tanks and uniforms and think "Gee that looks neat! I'd love to be a soldier!"

Same goes for the kids at the end of WitP -- they haven't personally been affected by the war all too much. They talk about which MS is the coolest and shit, not really thinking of how dangerous they are.
Al knows though. His friend died because of mobile suits, in a fight that was utterly pointless.
