I didn't even know about him before I posted, but it's hardly unheard of for Digimon series to have multiple rivals to the MC.

Xros Wars seemed to like that a lot. Kiriha was a rival Nene acted a lot like one before Yuu was introduced. And then Xros Hunters had like three rivals or something.

Protagonist is probably going to be very Takato-ish, with a bunch of superficial literary references to stuff Japan actually knows like Treasure Island or Peter Pan.
Heroine is probably going to be a cool, tough but nice "onee-san" with a dash of gap moe appeal with her sentimental side. She is the athletic one so maybe something on that front. Her idol job will get shilled pretty hard; I bet the ED will be like a music video of her idol group.
Kid is going to be the typical mood-maker character, maybe with a bit of more depth on his backstory.

This desu. Synchro dimension's wavering feelings with Yuya constantly was a pain to watch but since hopping over to the next dimension he's back on track to being an enjoyable protagonist. Though I do miss a lot of the spectacle that came with the full solidvision arenas from the first arc. Otherwise still enjoying it. Xros Hunter's three rivals were:

A) This one guy who set himself up as an honorable guy who ended up working with the main heroes once or twice despite being a rival to Tagiru. Turns out he managed to see the final battle from Xros Wars: The Seven Death Generals (the one against Darknessbagramon, he fell into that weird green space the protags were in for a bit and got a nice seat to the fight) and his motivation was actually to be at Taiki's level. Then it turned out that he was evil, except he wasn't evil, he was brainwashed, his digimon partner was evil and was actually the main intelligence of Quartzmon all along in a twist that rivals "ENERGY LIGER IS EVIL!" in terms of how fucking dumb it was and how contradictory it was to the preceding episodes.

B) Blonde haired chick with an obsession for cute things. Is a fucking insane person who might be psychopathic, but want's Yuu's cock so hard she works with the main cast quite a few times. Meanwhile her partner just wanted to be her first and foremost partner, which lead to some weird situations. (We're ignoring how they turned Cho-Hakkai into a girl in a pig suit because that was the franchise in general being dumb and not inherently Hunters' fault I think.)

C) A guy who literally never had plot importance and who showed up to be a dick like two times and that was all he ever did. Notable for having a partner who's Super Evolution was to... an Armor level (good fucking job, you've officially made that term completely pointless) that managed to beat up Omegashoutmon and Arresterdramon at the same time but lost to a Xrossed GUMDRAMON, proving that Xros Hunters thinks internal consistency is more guidelines than a thing you need.

Adventure's Digital World I find is always the most memorable. Deserts with telephone poles, beaches with phone booths, and lakes with electrical lines overhead, stuff like that made a lasting impression.

After that I would probably say Frontiers, a vast frontier with towns only connected by railway was also pretty cool.

It was the one solitary thing that Frontier did better than every other show. Every location seemed to have a unique touch to it that really gave you a sense of what they were fighting over.

Runner up would actually be the Digital World from the V-Tamer manga. I really appreciated how many of the locations were inhabited and how Taichi and Zero would tour around and make friends with the local Digimon, some of whom started following them around in turn. It was an interesting change of pace after the usual setup of "x number of kids and their partners go to random places where they are usually attacked by feral Digimon and any neutral Digimon are usually one-dimensional and quickly forgotten"

I loved this direction in Digimon World and especially Re:Digitize. It's a shame we didn't get that game on a system with better graphics. I feel like Next 0rder was a huge step down in terms of environments. The fact it's a videogame and you can actually raise Digimon like in Digimon adventure helps a lot too.

Expanding on V-Tamer's Digital World denizens, I like how it really played with the aesthetics. Every location was truly unique, like it's own mini habit.

There were island villages, but also hospitals staffed by Digimon. The futurstic/medieval look of HolyAngemon's palace was completely different from Vandemon's haunted castle, ect. It wasn't just a tribal land with set pieces borrowed from earth like in various seasons of the anime.

There's no pattern really. During the Savers and Xros days, all the games were DW3 style games or what you'd call "Digimon Story." Re:Digitize was an anniversary game and the first game in the DW1 style since DW1.

The PSP Adventures game was a Digimon Story style game that introduced Cyber Sleuth's gameplay style, and it came out after Re:Digitize. Cyber Sleuth came out after PSP Adventure.

The order of Digimon games has been like this starting from the PS2/DS games.

In Tamers, with the exception of Ryo, that happening was the result of the culmination of character development. In Frontier, it more or less removed any character from the entire cast by not giving them partners to play off of, giving us the absolute blandest cast in the whole franchise. It worked better in Savers when they gave that ability to villains.

The 02 kids weren't even the issue with the show. I'd say that they were underrated. It was the fact that the writers were juggling too many plotlines at once such as Daemon Corps and the Dark Ocean while giving them half-assed conclusions. Daemon and Dragomon are still alive too. The second biggest issue with 02 is that also aired shortly after Adventure ended. They should've taken a year off to polish 02.

I meant underrated by fans. The characterization of the 02 kids were simply the victims of overall bad writing. "Door to Summer" shows that even Daisuke can come across as decent if the writers aren't being retarded. That's kinda why I want to see them redeemed or at least him and Ken.

As for him being a gogglehead preacher, you're right. But it felt like the writers had just realized they had to wrap the show up, so they turned him into the messiah at a whim in order to make the plot move quicker. As I said before, they half-assed most of 02's side plots because they had attempted to do too much at a time. And the result was Daisuke's group being underdeveloped and Taichi's group being dumb. Everybody took a hit in that show, and it's not fair to not give them a second chance.

Let me make this clear, I don't like 02, and Daisuke's not my favorite MC even though I'd like to see him redeemed outside of audio dramas. It's annoying to see fags rate 02 above the likes of Savers or Xros just because of nostalgia while calling characters from the newer series "boring" despite not watching those shows.

This. The quick flashes of the 02 kids getting blasted interspersed between scenes of Tai cheerily riding his bike to school soured things right from the get-go. As it is, even with just two OVAs out, the writers don't feel very committed to cluing us in on the mystery of of their disappearance.

I'd read this somewhere, and feel free to prove me wrong, but I'd read somewhere that 02's writers were not "allowed" to develop Daisuke. So he was stuck as this static character who was basically a glorified plot device.

Any development the guy gets, it's in crossovers, or media of dubious canonical relevance, such as audio dramas.

Take his appearance in V-Tamer 01; there, we see a side of him that was NEVER touched upon in the show, because writers weren't allowed to; he's expressing doubt in himself, and questioning his worth. He's wondering if the other Digidestined really give a rat's ass about him, or see him as a nuisance.

If the writers had more freedom, I don't doubt that 02 would have been a better product overall.

Yeah, according to the producer, Hiromi Seki, it was for the audience's benefit to see contrast between Daisuke and Ken's development.

DoGatchamon, Super Search Appmon with high-speed and the ability to locate enemies at long distances.
Dosukomon, Master Fighter Appmon that dominates martial arts, always searching to become stronger, loves fighting strong enemies.
Scopemon, Surveillance Appmon that uses cameras everywhere to snipe enemies no matter where they hide.

So unless Bamco gives her a proper debut in a Digimon World or Story game, or at least has her show up in Linkz or something, the best I can hope for is an animated appearance.

I probably have a better shot at seeing her in a new Digimon manga, but we haven't had a new one since Xros Wars' manga, and I don't know if that ended, or if it's still going. Probably ended a while back.

Uh, no way. Nobody except an idiot is going to argue that ‘Adventure’ did justice to its entire cast, but when you compare how Mimi and Jō actually got to have arcs in the last quarter of the show with the way that ‘Savers’ dropped Yoshino and Ikuto like rocks, it’s clear the former preformed better, despite a much larger handicap.

Also the secondary characters in ‘Tamers’ aren’t underdeveloped, they’re just that: secondary. It’s a cinch for the best character development.

Like Dominimon and Regulumon. Or Callismon. Or Snatchmon's line. Fujinmon, Raijinmon and Suijinmon also need exposure outside of that MMO.

You know what? Forget the early stuff. Get the Super Evolutions from the Xros Wars manga in there too. And the rest of the Hybrids from Frontier.

While we're at it, finish of random evo lines like Airdramon, Apemon and the like. And give Shakkoumon his own Ultimate since Vikemon was stolen from him, damn it!

That's completely incorrect.

Mimi and Jou's arc starts after MetalSeadramon is defeated, so it's well into the Dark masters arc at this stage.

Indeed they were, and the reason for that is that they were excessively simplistic characters who didn’t undergo that much development for main characters in a fifty-episode show. That’s bad writing. Ikuto could be forgiven since he did develop a LOT during the middle half, but Yoshino was just a waste of space after the first arc.

Wrong. Besides the obvious, which >>14533217 pointed out, you had Takeru growing more confident and independent, Yamato questioning his role, challenging Taichi, and striking out on his own, Taichi fumbling with leadership due to people bailing on the team and Hikari's sickness, Sora struggling with her self-appointed role as peacemaker, and while it wasn't the most organic character development, Hikari's glowstick powers. Pretty much the only one who didn't develop much during the Dark Masters arc was Kōshirō.

Not really.

What are you even talking about? Sora does a lot as a mother figure for the rest of the team, looking after Taichi and the younger kids, consoling Yamato, bolstering Jō, regulating Mimi and mending bridges when people butt heads.
