Not really, no.
There are a couple of people who will insist that there's some unwritten rule that anything by Uncle Go is /m/, though. I've even seen a Kama Sutra manga that was literally graphic instructions on how to suck dick, and the thread stayed up for like two days.
Of course that was probably because the janitor at the time was too busy deleting any and every negative comment in the Robot Girls Z threads to notice anything else.
Well, if it manages to be enter Super Robot Wars, then, maybe yes.
BTW, there was a survey around the time SRW V was announced, asking which series would you like to see in next game. Devilman was in there (just as 'Devilman', no specifics).

This is the official canon according to Go Nagai, who's own work is pretty all over the place canonically, but still this chart isn't just guess work.
He's reneged on Violence Jack being the follow up to Devilman in favor of Devilman Lady and stated that Devil Knight is the first instalment and Devilman Saga is the last.
Everything listed as canonically connected was written by Go Nagai himself or officially stated as such. And everything listed as an adaptation of the manga or other source material is obviously so. Dynamic Pro even released a far more abridge flow chart back around 2000 or so and this one just expands on that with more contemporary materials.
I'm at a loss as to why /m/ has so many fucking stupid people like yourselves, who make your stupidity obvious for absolutely no god damned reason. I mean there is perfectly acceptable reasons to get ahead of yourself and end up in an escalating internet discussion where you're talking out your ass, we've all been there, but c'mon now. Seriously, anymore when browsing /m/ I feel like I've time traveled back to the early 2000s where newfags literally didn't know even know the most basic principles of interacting with other people online and just randomly argued about shit and pretended to know stuff simply out of principle of stupidity.
>>14450080
>unwritten rule that anything by Uncle Go is /m/
Mostly because /m/ knows more about him than /a/ and actually recognises his works. Besides, if you've ever seen Devilman on /a/ before, you'd know it's all memes. Here, we can at least try to have a civil discussion.
>>14451680
Having a discussion about anything on /a/ that isn't about the latest harem anime or romcom is virtually impossible.
If something is actually interesting, unique or might appeal to non-anime fans it's simply labeled "Manime" and dismissed as juvenile garbage because they feel they've lost "ownership" of it or fear losing "ownership" of it, because it's no fun if everyone likes something. For example, early on much of /a/ shunned Attack on Titan because they knew it would be the next big thing with "normers" so they cried 'sour grapes' from the get go.
Similarly, anything that predates their personal discovery of Anime is by default "overrated shit" because what's even the point of liking something if you couldn't get in on the ground floor.
There honestly isn't a single board on all of 4chan with such an unwarranted sense of superiority and self worth and God help your miserable forsaken soul if you even dare to ask for the source of anything no matter how obscure or same-faced.
>>14451778

also, it would make more sense to post a GenoCyber track, since GenoCyber seems to be pretty heavily inspired by Devilman, at least in terms of body horror, monster design, general cynicism, and apocalyptic tone.
>>14453235
But the continuity is completely wrong. Why would you waste so much time being so wrong?
>>14456673
How so? How is the continuity wrong?
>>14456676
>>14456793
Thanks for the notations, but those are really only minor, and since Violence Jack is a sequel to Devilman (albeit reneged canon) it still has a place though I will make a point of differentiating it from the canon story. I'll definitely use your input to adjust the chart.
>>14456824
Violence Jack is a sequel to Devilman as much as it is a sequel to Gakuen Taikutsu Otoko. Which is to say that it's not and is just a non-continuity story featuring those characters. The direct continuity between Devilman and Devilman Lady completely rules out Violence Jack.
Also
>but those are really only minor
You're making a continuity chart and you say correct continuity is really only minor? Bro.
>>14456901
I'm still working on the Demon Lord Dante section so it's inconsequential whether those are right now or not.
Also, Violence Jack was a sequel until Devilman Lady was made, now it's just supplemental canon which I'll make sure to list as such. I'd gladly just rule it out as non-canon cameos if it weren't for the fact that the Devilman characters play such a significant role in the conclusion of Violence Jack.
I appreciate your input, but you're being pretty melodramatic about it.
>>14456901
So does Dante's Divine comedy play any canonical part in the Devilman canon or is it merely a negligible supplement?
Is it also fair to say that Mao Dante isn't canon with the Devilman continuity in any way shape or form even though both Dante's Divine comedy are and Mao Dante himself appear in Devil Man Lady?
>>14456940
>I'm still working on the Demon Lord Dante section so it's inconsequential whether those are right now or not.
Completely wrong, because you would have continued to make those errors without my input.
>Violence Jack was a sequel until Devilman Lady was made
I don't give a fuck, stop making excuses for your incompetence.
>now it's just supplemental canon
It's not canon, stop trying to save face.
>I'd gladly just rule it out as non-canon cameos if it weren't for the fact that the Devilman characters play such a significant role in the conclusion of Violence Jack.
You're literally just making up your own canon now. Pathetic. I thought this was supposed to be factual?
>I appreciate your input, but you're being pretty melodramatic about it.
I'm not here to spare your glass feelings.
>>14457205
>So does Dante's Divine comedy play any canonical part in the Devilman canon or is it merely a negligible supplement?
The Divine Comedy manga is just an adaption of Dante's work. It does not integrate Go Nagai's own work. However, the original Devilman manga assumes that the Divine Comedy was an actual truthful event that happened in that universe.
>Is it also fair to say that Mao Dante isn't canon with the Devilman continuity in any way
The Demon Lord Dante manga series aren't canon to Devilman and are unrelated to it. However, Devilman Lady does feature a different version of Demon Lord Dante that features a similar role to the original.
Devilman continuity is incredibly simple, people. It essentially works like this: Devilman and Devilman Lady are one canon. This is the main series. Devilman Saga might be part of that but I haven't read it yet. Everything else is supplemental material, that may or may not fit into the Devilman and Devilman Lady canon, but should never be considered hard canon with them.
>>14457281

Easy there Judge Dredd.
You realize all your harsh criticisms of that chart only hold water if it were presented as the final version, which it was not, the guy even said it wasn't finished. If someone is mistaken on something like a work in progress, correct them constructively, don't go all asspurger. Saying that it's not your job to coddle people doesn't make your behavior excusable or somehow the other person's fault. You're not fighting the final boss friend, you don't need to show your true power level. Just sit back and take a chill pill, it'll all be okay, trust me.
Maybe /k/ is more suited to someone of your temperment?

>>14457691
True Devilman (later revised as "Devilman: The Novel") is a retelling of the Devilman manga by Go Nagai's brother with illustrations by Go himself. It was primarily the basis for the first two OVAs, of which the first OVA was novelized into "Devilman: The Birth".
The Cyborg 009 vs Devilman novel is a prequel to the OVA.
Best thread on /m/ right now.
>>14457465
>if you don't know everything you need to know
And apparently you don't know any better, because Devilman Lady doesn't rule out Violence Jack as a sequel.
So yeah, you're the idiot here.
>>14447449
Not even close
I just started reading Devilman Lady and is it a major plot-point at some point further into the story that the entire world is apparently normal again even though it's also apparently after the events of Devilman? What's up with that? Is this some kind of side-story/alternate-take thing or is this some crazy future world-reset type stuff?
>>14461651
The world was reset as if Devilman never happened. It's a direct sequel.
>>14461763
Okay, cool.
>>14461232
You must be fairly new here.
Easiest way to tell if someone is new on /m/ is if they start going off on what is or isn't /m/ (though in your defense the OP did ask). I mean you can argue that Devilman isn't /m/ because the subject matter clearly isn't, but to say not even close, c'mon. Even if you discount Uncle Go altogether you still have the fact that every crossover Devilman has been in (Mazinger Z, Mazinger Angels, Getter Robo, Hades (Mazinger Z), Cyborg 009) has been /m/. Even the 70s Anime had Ultraman/Tokusatsu elements in it.

>>14468953
Devilman doesn't need a chart, as with all Go Nagai properties.
You just go in chronological order of release, and everything makes sense as long as you read the original Devilman.
>>14468812
People were working on G, but I'm unsure if they still are. As for why this gets so little attention? That's because nobody cares, it's not mainstream and doesn't have fanservice or giant anime titties. That, and the fact that the manga isn't readily available or released in the US.
>>14471129
>People were working on G, but I'm unsure if they still are.
Mangalism supposedly is, but the problem is that their website hasn't been updated in ages, so you have to rely on Baka-Updates (of all things) to gauge progress. Even then though, they haven't done much lately.

>>14492072
The thing is that very few are actually interested or at least vocal about wanting more of his works to be translated. People just don't care and are put off by the art alone no matter how acclaimed it may be.
Then you have actual translators who are interested in translating his works. How many are there? There's like a handful. Besides, most TLs do it for e-penis, donations and the fame which Nagai works or old works at all do not give.
At this rate, you're just gonna have to pay people to do them but then all money grubbing faggots would be all over you. Then there's the appeal, Devilman and such doesn't appeal to everyone while generic harem shit, shonen, ecchi, and all that other crap do. The situation is dire. Very dire.

You're a spic, I'm a spic, everyone in this thread is a spic. That's how spicposting works. And why we are all gathered here.
>>14500524
Don't respond, don't engage it. Don't make the board worse. Watch for it's catch phrase and stay clear.
>>14449745
What was this comic even like?
>>14447861
...you don't get to bring devils
>>14451581
Sometimes I worry that /m/'s always been this shitty, and we're only just noticing.
Thanks for your work, BTW.
>>14451790
Can we just get a board for older anime?
>>14451581
>This is the official canon according to Go Nagai
It isn't.
>He's reneged on Violence Jack being the follow up to Devilman in favor of Devilman Lady
No, he hasn't.
>stated that Devil Knight is the first instalment and Devilman Saga is the last.
Source.
>where you're talking out your ass
Ironing at its finest.
>>14500256
>Jack is great but the arcs are also hit and miss
Still waiting for a hit after the first arc.
>>14499625
>Susanoo is pretty great
Heh, no.
>>14500742
Nice try Carlos, you aren't fooling anyone.
Everything Dynamic Pro/Go Nagai that is not Mazinger/Getterman/Devilman-related is extremely hard to find on the internet, you'll be lucky to find raws in some Italian website, nobody gives a damn about Uncle Go.
Even that Cyborg 009/Devilman crossover didn't have any fansubs, Netflix saved it for some reason, I hope the get more Go Nagai stuff out.
>>14501687
>Everything Dynamic Pro/Go Nagai that is not Mazinger/Getterman/Devilman-related is extremely hard to find on the internet
No.
>>14502376
Look mate, tell me: what do you gain by calling other spic? Realy, what do you gain? Do you think you are better than then? If you are, use your brain to type in how X is good, what are the good/bad points and not being like the Xpearse who couldnt even speak why he didnt like Neo Devilman Ishikawa's chapter.
I am not even a spic, buy holy shit, I am certain that they give 0 fucks about MUH REPRESENTATION unlike american cockgobbled pampered autistic babies like you.
If you are just shitposting, whats next? what will be your endgame? Sperging spic this spic that in the next thread? Stop being an imbecile and discuss why do you think this or that is good or bad, calling others name will get you anywhere, you just look like a failure who cant even explain why some japanese comic from the 70's is bad.
>>14500887
Actually read any wiki or english site that discusses the works.
Go Nagai said Devil Knight is the first story in the series of time loops even leading into the events of the original Devilman manga. Shin Devilman follows as the next loop after the original Devilman manga where the nature of God's time loop placed on Earth is explained. The next loop (or some loops later) Devilman Lady takes place where Devilman has given up hope residing within Hell and Ryo/Satan has been split into Ran Asuka and Jun Fudo. He later says that Devilman Saga is the last chapter of the Devilman series meaning it is the final time loop.
Violence Jack, though originally implied as a sequel to Devilman was later stated by Go Nagai as not being so and was more akin to a post apocalyptic world for all of his fictional works to reside in. He also clarified that neither Violence Jack nor Demon Lord Dante have any place in the Devilman time loop scenario.
>>14502667
You didn't answer any questions. Where are the proofs?
>>14503205
Look up any wiki or site that talks about the material. The Devilman Wikia for one.
>>14503355
I don't want wikis. I want proofs.
>>14502457
>couldnt even speak why he didnt like Neo Devilman Ishikawa's chapter.
Read that thread again.
>>14501708
What about that early 70's Nagai manga where a woman on a plane crash lands in the amazon and gets raped by everything in sight?
>>14503683
Fuck off, xpearse.
What is considered Nagai's best looking work? I'm reading through Devilman Lady right now and I'm really impressed by it. His designs are often simple but he can use them amazingly.
>>14507055
His magnum opus Devilman if you ignore this chapter of course. Lady is different, but no where near as good as the original.
>>14456660
>>14456664
Hell yes, Iwaaki! The man.
Is Devilman just cool devil guys punching/biting each other? Sounds pretty fun.
>>14508343
Nagai is surprisingly into his mythology. Lots of fun punching but there's a lot more going on than you might expect considering the sort of goofy title and designs.
>>14507055
The least bad-looking one, you mean. Devilman has some neat panelling, I guess. Overall, the 80s was when he really went downhill.
>>14510131
panelling is certainly a strong-point of his but I don't think there's any part of his work I'd actually consider 'bad.'
>>14503428
Wiki's list their sources. Bang. Proofs.
Deal with it. If you're too lazy to do the research don't expect others, who aren't, to spoon feed you.
>>14510350
>I'm going to make wild claims
>but I'll never back them up
Looking pretty pathetic m8
So how much of Grimoire has been translated?
>>14510352
Every information source on the internet corroborates what he is saying. I can't blame him since you only seem intent on moving the goal post in this situation.
>>14510352
If you actually ever read Demon Knight, Devilman, Devilman Lady & Devilman Saga you'd know in which order they take place.
The only thing that requires proof is Violence Jack which Go Nagai himself renegged as canon.
http://devilman.wikia.com/wiki/Violence_Jack
Evidently Go Nagai made the claim at a convention in saying that Violence Jack was canon with nothing but itself.
>>14510356
>>14510374
You still haven't posted a shred of proof.
>since you only seem intent on moving the goal post in this situation.
I have not moved any goalpost. I have asked for actual proof since the beginning and have not changed my stance.
Post proofs, dipshit. This isn't rocket science.
>>14510510
Then don't believe it, you obviously haven't read any of the material to know the canon order presented in them in the first place so convincing you seems really superfluous. I fail to see why convincing you when no one else has any issue with this presented canon (probably because they've at least read the source material) is of any importance. Go ahead, call it bullshit, call it made up, that still doesn't change anything or excuse your ignorance.
The events in Devil Knight show that it is a direct prequel to Devilman. The events in Devilman Lady show that it is a direct sequel to Devilman. The events in Devilman Saga show that it is a direct sequel to Devilman Lady. You want proofs? Read the fucking manga.
Here is an official flow chart published by Dynamic Pro in the late 90s/early 00s. No Violence Jack. Nagai doesn't consider it part of the Devilman cluster.
Short of having Go Nagai himself make a youtube video explaining this in english, I don't think you're willing to take any evidence as proof and like so many trolls on /m/ are just shitposting because you're pissed off there is one less spot on the catalog for complaining about the latest iterations of Gundam, Macross or Toku.
>>14510546
You could have posted this in the first place instead of sperging out.
Was that hard? All he asked was some evidence of your claims.
It's not up to him to prove the claims. It's the one making them.
>>14449838

i do, go get it if you like the series its a 10/10 book
>>14489176
fuck u nigga
>>14480721
4 chapters including 11 page prequel
>>14491991
Lets be honest here nigga, there are hundreds of manga series always coming out and the devilman fandom is niche as fuck, there was barely even any info on the series till i made the wiki a few years back.
>>14498119
its more 2/10 of his works are simply mediocre, u get occasional shit like Jushin Liger (which did actually have a great ending and designs) but its not that much.
>>14510374
You that claim was bullshit, i know cus im the guy who wrote the article and based that on what some nigga on 4chan said, which reminds me i need to edit that as i intend on making some VJ pages soon
>>14511909
This isn't a visual novel, fag.
>>14511960
>>14511974
You need to go the fuck back to your shitty wiki.
>there was barely even any info on the series till i made the wiki a few years back.
That's bullshit. There was plenty of English info about Devilman even before it was translated way back in 2008.
>>14511983
golly gosh
>>14511877
The Violence Jack Novels are there. Also, are they canon additions to the manga or just light novel adaptations?
>>14511992
Fuckin make me faggot.
The demon bible didnt get scanned till last year, i brought a shit ton of source books and made pages on all the demons and obscure shit well before. Not my fault ya a faggot.

cant say mate i havent read them, i dont even know how many there are.

Hey I'm gonna play stupid for a moment and ask sauce. I don't remember that particular scene from the orig devilman book.
>>14508343
It gets pretty depressing and well worth a read.
>>14512208
It's from the short side story "One Summer Day" which was included with the deluxe and revised editions of the Devilman Manga.

Remember Children, the moral of the Devilman story is: Everything is awful forever.
>>14512217
Many thanks, Comrade! Will definitely check it out
>>14449703
How would Devilman fare in the Guyver Universe?
>>14512151
I don't get why you're so obsessed with creating a chart. I don't think anybody really cares about continuity when it comes to Devilman.
>>14512217
It's really dumb and out of touch with the original manga. It's like those extra chapters shoved into the original Getter Robo manga. They're just out of place. Especially the art.
>>14512836
>I don't get why you're so obsessed with creating a chart. I don't think anybody really cares about continuity when it comes to Devilman.
I really appreciate anons who are trying to help newcomers in any way they can. That chart seems like a great idea to me.
Keep at it man.
>>14512843
That's not the point. There shouldn't be a go-to guide for something like Devilman. You read the original, then whatever the fuck else at your own pace or not at all.
>>14512843
Are you brain dead? That chart doesn't help newcomers whatsoever. It's a masturbatory exercise for a literal who that can't actually contribute anything.
>>14512869
>You read the original, then whatever the fuck else at your own pace or not at all.
Thats not how it works.
>>14512932
But everything else is side material. Heck, even Lady is a loose sequel and can be read on its own.
>>14512869
You keep saying that every single fucking Devilman thread. Why does it bother you so much that people want to know how the different stories connect? Even if it's a "pseudo sequel" or a reimagining or whatever, they simply want to know if the manga they've been reading continues in some way, shape or form.
Granted, the chart isn't too helpful at present, but we're slowly getting there
>>14512994
Because the original is the only thing worth a damn.
>>14512876
Damn dude, you autistic.
The point of the chart is more to show just what all of the media is out there, not necessarily a reading order or clear cut canon, those are merely concepts which help organize the flow chart.
If you hate charts like this so much then take it up with Dynamic Pro fro creating the original.
>>14513198
>if you insult my badly made chart, with dubious assertions of canon that serves literally no purpose for anyone, then you're autistic
Damn d00d
>>14513240
That's some wicked strawmanning you're pulling there. I'd gladly accept any evidence to the contrary of what has been presented. Perhaps you'd like to substantiate some of those hyperbolas claims?
>>14513375
just stop replying senpai, you doing good. im gonna look at what i own and drop any titles tommora
I just finished Devilman Lady 15 minutes ago and I have to say I'm very impressed. Nagai managed to make the story at the same time cyclical and surprising with familiar elements and new things being introduced from start to finish. It's cool that Nagai was able to make something so clever and entertaining where there was easy potential for a lame and half-assed cash-in. Of course it wasn't as sharp as the original Devilman due to the length but it had several very high points while being generally strong all the way through.
As far as successors for the original Devilman go I don't think anybody could have hoped for better. Even after reading stuff that was inspired by Devilman and kind of acted as modern updates like Parasyte Devilman Lady still impressed the hell out of me. Go Nagai is really something else.
>>14519287
Alot of the stuff he's put out since the late 90s though really just seems more like a creative exercise than the stuff he was aiming for with Devilman, Violence Jack & Devilman Lady. Not that they're bad, mind you, but things like Devil Knight, Devilman Saga, Shin Violence Jack, etc seem more experimental than definitive.
made this Devilman drawing in the past two hours, figure i might as well post it here.
bit off way more than i can chew at the moment, don't know if i'll work on it further than this.
deliberately tried to fit some Go Nagai demon designs from the original manga in the background, but had to fill out with some of my own.
>>14519746

Devilman / Mazinkaizer SKL crossover when?

>>14519746
That's a very beast-like face you've given him. Is he meant to be grinning? He looks spooky.
>>14519746
Besides the head wings, that doesn't look like Devilman. Looks more like Zetman.
>>14519889
thanks!
>>14519906
i suppose he's pretty satisfied/happy about killing all those demons. spooky is good.
>>14519907
eh, if i ever find the motivation to color/render it, i'll try to add some fur, the greenish skin and maybe the wings (if i can fit them in without obscuring the background too much). hopefully that'll make him look more like Devilman.
>>14519959
Your design simply does not look like Devilman. I'd post an image comparing, but someone already spammed the thread to death with a bunch of shitty images.
>>14519982
His design looks fine.
You're the same troll who was sperging out over the chart weren't you?
>>14519989

Sure. But it doesn't look much like Devilman. Don't be so pathetic, anon.
>>14520010
Looks like Devilman to me.
> Not denying that he is the same troll.
>>14519982
I tried to make at least the head look like Devilman, but in my artstyle, of course.
feel free to give me pointers.
>>14520058
I'm just ignoring your stupidity, anon. I think you should seek help and stop posting for a while.
>>14520091
There are no pointers to give, since you already realize it doesn't look much like Devilman. Obviously, you're free to draw however you want.
>>14520091
He's just trolling, does it in every thread that he doesn't like.
>>14520095
> Still not denying it.
You're a very insecure person aren't you? At the very least you're not very constructive.
Does this thread upset you because it isn't about Gundam or Toku? Maybe you'd rather of had another thread complaining about Macross Delta.
>>14519746
looks great, lesse i can spot jinmen, sirene and texsch, there any others?
>>14520091
its fine nigga, u got good perspective and anatomy, perhaps you could do a bit more detailing, but other then that its a good pic
>>14521067
Kaim in bottom left, titty-mouths is in there, and a giant spider hidden away in top left.
Other than that, i just threw in whatever.
>>14521073
thanks man. yea, detailing is usually the last step i do.
maybe i do need to finish this after all.
if there's a Devilman thread again sometime in the future i may post an updated version. don't know how frequent these threads are, i'm entirely new to /m/.
>Just finished Devilman Lady
Wow, that was not only rushed as shit but I feel robbed after reading that.
