Less than a month after it started, the previous thread went missing a few post before bump limit, so here come it's successor, here to keep the legacy going. If you've gone missed for some time, then here is the previous thread >>14327526.
Most of you already know the rules, right? If not, here's what this thread is for: argue, discuss and dump stuff like artworks, fanarts (if they're well made of course), sketches, magazines' scans, artbooks, DVD/VHS/LD/CD/BD's covers, ads, musics, screen-caps and so on, that have a link to a Sci-Fi and Mecha anime/comic/novel/film/OVA.

Do raws even exist? Seems like it got shuffled under the rug pretty quickly from what I've heard.

There are raws on nyaa.se

There's also a BD release of the show but I haven't seen it uploaded anywhere at all

Oh God, Gorgon's just beating the shit out of Brocken and Ashura. And now he/she's gone on a suicide mission... my heart can't take this!
>>
>>14437078
It's mostly that the toy company sponsoring Galvion went bankrupt during the airing. Unlike Mechander, it didn't even have the time to scrounge up some sort of resolution. Fun fact: Koichi Ohata was the director for this.

>>14437101
Somehow, I wouldn't be surprised if Luurah picked it up eventually, since it seems like this show would be right up his alley.

So, in Zambot 3 the Jin family gave the blueprints of Zambot to the military, but we never see mass-produced Zambots in the show (which is a too bad imo). But are there any other works where we get to see them?

>>
Excuse me gentle/m/en.

How do I Mazinger?

I'm specifically having conflicted messages if I should watch the original or jump on Shin and branch out from there.
>>
>>14509156
Read the manga then watch the Mazinkaiser OVAs.

If you need more then either watch the original anime or Shin Mazinger.

Shin Mazinger is its own thing and you'll either love it or hate it depending on how you feel about Imagawa directed stuff.
>>
>>14509156
Personally, I found the manga and Mazinkaiser very boring; they do almost nothing with the basic mecha show template that Mazinger Z created, although the OVA has some nice music and action scenes.

70s Toei Mazinger Z does a lot more with the concept and is overall a much better work as a whole, although I do think it takes a good 30-40 episodes before it really comes into its own. It's also pretty interesting in that the more the show goes on, the more frequent recurring elements become. From episodes 67-80, it's almost hard to even tell you're watching a MotW show anymore with all the HAPPENING going on.

Shin is much more accessible to modern anime sensibilities and is without a doubt my favorite Imagawa work simply because its the show with the most variety in tone (i.e. he actually has intentional comic relief from time to time) and also the one I think did the serial escalation thing best. It starts off pretty crazy and only gets crazier.
>>
>>14509356
For clarification, I suggested the manga and Mazinkaiser first because they're a good primer. They're both short and accessible and fun.

I'm not saying to avoid the Toei show, just that it might be better to invest yourself in Mazinger a bit before jumping in.
>>
I just finished reading the Outlanders comic, and wew! It takes a path that is totally different from the OVA's when the latter was supposed to end. Anyway, the bridge bunnies in the Siberian base were cute, too bad we didn't get to see them more often and too bad they had to die the way they did.
>>
>>14509156
Read the manga, then watch the Toei show.
EZPZ.

>>14509356
>>14509420
I disagree, don't skip to the modern stuff. Y'know, production order.
>>
>>14511440
Production order really doesn't matter for Mazinger. It's not like there's any continuity or anything insightful to be gleaned by following it.
>>
>>14504763

>>

I still think with stuff like Mazinger it's better to get straight to the original material so you can appreciate the newer material more.
>>
I've been checking some old VHS this afternoon so I could finally know that mecha show I saw a trailer as a kid, but it's impossible to fast forward past the middle of the tape and the video and audio signals have been distorted pretty badly at many spots. So, I'll just ask you what show it could have been with what I remember from the trailer -- it looked like an 70s show I think, it has some kind of giant robot, and 2 pilots, a man and a woman, which at some point are shown to have some kind of robotic body, but look human most of the time. At some point they emit some kind of waves represented by circles and stuff. What do you think it could be? For some time I though it might be Gakeen, but I have doubts about that because Mai and Takeru aren't cyborgs or anything.
On a side note, not really /m/, but I'm kind of pissed that my VHS which was used to record Sandy Bell episodes has picture problems too (the sound is okay, but the picture doesn't have colors anymore and is warped and sometimes negative) while many of my tapes are still fine.
>>
>>14516596

Just finished Dougram. Big thanks to you fine folks for subbing it. It was one hell of a show.

I assume it didn't get real popular because it was too subdued and dealt with politics in such an in-depth way, then?

max_ironfoot032.jpg

>>14522117
It was popular, actually, that's why it has seventy five episodes as opposed to fifty or so.

The main reason you don't see stuff like sequels is apparently because A) Takahashi doesn't like revisiting stuff too much and B) You're right in that Dougram's fans didn't demand sequels unlike with VOTOMS, which is the main reason Takahashi revisited it.

The politicking, combat, etc. I assume would have factored into what did make it more popular. At any rate it's still definitely got a living fanbase, because Max Factory is doing kits of the Combat Armors. They've done the Dougram, Soltic H8, Korchima Special Soltic, Blockhead (T10B colors), Ironfoot, and the Native Dancer assault vehicles J.Locke and his men use. The next upcoming release is the Bushman in one of the next two coming months.

Do support Dorkly's streams, willya?
>>
>>14522141
Perhaps I merely don't perceive it as such because it doesn't get mentioned much on this board from what I've seen. I still do get the impression that VOTOMS is much more popular, and I'm fine with that; I think it was ultimately the most entertaining show Takashi directed back in the 80s. Dougram was definitely a bit harder to watch even though it was almost certainly better.

Anyway, while it's rare to find a show that doesn't have a modern toy outside of the Brave series, colour me a bit surprised that there's so many in the modern Dougram lines. I always found the design of the Combat Armors and their fights with one another to be rather boring, and it's a testament to how good the show was that I kept watching in spite of that.
>>
>>14522162
I have definitely seen that sentiment about the CA fights in other Dougram threads, about the designs not so much. I feel great about both of them.

I watched Dougram before VOTOMS so I wouldn't know what to say about it being harder to watch. I definitely enjoyed it a bit more.
>>
Apparently there's a japanese TV station airing Dougram, or at least it was last I heard. Odd, but endearing, huh?
>>
Idk if this is the right place to ask but I'll give it a go anyways:

So I found a copy of the rare 2nd BGM collection OST of Seijushi Bismarck on Mandarake...the seller that's listing it, however, says that it's a "store front item".

Does this mean that the only way to buy the album is to buy it IRL? Or can I just order it and have it shipped here to America?
>>
>>14504763

Yes!! I KNEW I remembered at least one other issue of Out Magazine that had an O-Gundam feature in it. Arrrrgh why didn't I buy it all those years ago? Probably too poor. Was just a teen.
>>
>>14522117
>folks
Actually, all due credit is to Crinn of X-Nebula Subs, the one-man wrecking crew who made it all possible (wherever he may be right now, for he vanished).

>>14522162
In fairness, Takahashi did team up with Kanda on directorial duties for Dougram, which explains the lack of mysticism.
>>
>>14522141

>The main reason you don't see stuff like sequels is apparently because A) Takahashi doesn't like revisiting stuff too much and B) You're right in that Dougram's fans didn't demand sequels

I'm more into a reboot. Doesn't have to involve Takashashi himself other than his approval. Though it has to keep everything great about Dougram, while adding some new things.
>>
>>14522162

I wonder if there's any ancient drawings by Rumic of other properties like First Gundam or something from when she was still an amateur.
She ran in her college nerd circles, right? Is there any resources to hunt down (via moonwebs and in real life moon missions) ancient doujin and who was where?

>>
>>14549844
No he's just listing the different subs for Mazinger.

Either buy or torrent the discotek version. Only good subs
>>
I think /m/ overhyped Daitarn 3 for me. Finding it really dull and ended up dropping it. At first I thought it was just because it was so different from the usual Tomino stuff, but I loved Xabungle which was also pretty different.
>>
>>14549825
Well if you don't want to buy discotek releases, there's a torrent with discotek rip on bakabt. Check a couple episodes to see if it's your cup of tea and maybe buy the DVDs or just pirate the entire thing

Personally I watched the GARADA subs that added FUCK every time the characters were angry (that was before Discotek). It enhanced the experience at least a bit since it made their arguing funnier, but they were still passable and mostly accurate if we look past the FUCK. Crabstick on the other hand are completely inaccurate machine translations. Good for a quick laugh and screenshot posting, but a terrible way to experience the show.
>>
>>14549890
The major problem I had with it was the ugly pastel laden art style, which is a real shame since all the shading on Daitarn itself is incredible

But anyway, the appeal of Daitarn is twofold: one, that all the MotW characters have actual personality to them, which is almost unheard of otherwise, and two, Banjo himself being an amazing protagonist. He's my favorite of all the /m/ shows I've watched, even if there are others that come close. His particular mixture of Roger Smith and Kouji Kabuto is basically everything I ask for out of a mecha protagonist

I think a lot of both the official and fanart made me expect something a bit less MotW and more serial. I'll have to give it another chance when I'm more in the mood for a MotW show, I just finished Mazinger and Zambot 3 recently before watching Daitarn so that probably didn't help, might be burnt out.

Although I will say Daitarn 3 has one of my favorite designs and weapon load outs ever, this thing is sexy as hell.

Yeah, they just roll with it. As far as I remember, there aren't even any moral repercussions for the characters involved.

That episode is quite a bit special: not only is it a bit "out there", the animation during the fight is also pretty quality.
>>
>>14558566
Thing is, SDF Macross was going to be longer, then got shortened (before getting a 9-episode extension due to popularity mid-production), so I suspect they had to rush Max's subplot.

I thought he said he switched to DVDS because the BDs look like ass. There's a good reason the BDs haven't been ripped. The older R2 DVDs are the best quality.

Also need to remember he was just typing out the crunchyroll subs himself or something since you can't just rip them from CR due to being hardsubbed. He also hasn't done anything since January so he seems to be on break or subninja'd

So I'm about to finish Layzner and want to ask what those OVAs I've heard of are about.
>>
>>14635244

Aren't those the new, non-rushed ending to the series?
>>
>>14635416
OVA 1 recaps the first arc, OVA 2 recaps the 2nd arc with some new bits, and OVA3 is the new, extended ending. It's not the originally planned end to the series, since an entire arc was cut, but it's more than the TV series covers.

Was that a different ship or did they just draw the Vic Viper weird there?

Even though we call Gradius spacefighters Vic Vipers, only the first episode's spacefighter is actually a Vic Viper (for exemple, in Gradius II MSX the ship is actually Metallion). Also, there's the fact that the design of the ship generally change from one episode to another (pic related for example) even though the sprites stay really close (if not identical).

Aizenborg was an odd show.

It's a mixture of anime and live action special effects show.

It's sorta blends the typical team from your robot anime with the giant monster fighting teams from Ultraman.

But the villains were suit actors. I remember they were more like a comedy duo than actual villains.

It's been ages since I saw the Arabic dub, but from what I recall the live action bits were pretty well done, but at the cost of the animation bits being a bit weaker overall.

Decided to check out the first episode of the Arabic dub again. Qualtiy's pretty shit, but I can't find anything better.

Man, this thing did not age well.

The two main characters, the male and female who turn into Aizenborg, are decently voiced.

But the dudes who voice these two are pretty awful.

What's even worse is that they're clearly your typical Boss clones, but the Arabic dub chooses to introduce them as a genius scientist in the realm of "animal care"and the guy on the right is defined as being a famous "hero," whatever the hell that means.

Anyone got the hi-res version of this pic? Artist seems to have deleted it and I'm not getting any reverse image search results.
