***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, dont make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Just got the MG wing gundam, ive built the heavy arms n shenlong no problem but am worried about the wing proto, am guessing the frame will be different than most since it transforms. Anyone else built the wing proto ver? Anything to look out for or be extra gentle with?

Was my first build. Only thing I can really remember is there are weight issues, it can't balance very well with the wings, gun and shield all on. Outside of that I like it a lot.
>>

Also forgot to mention the guns will flop, combined or not. I used a little bit of blue tac to stick it to the arm.
>>

That's not too bad, I was more concerned with the frame breaking. When I built the rx-78 2 rg the arm and left knee joint crumbled. I guess as a MG I dont have to worry about it much

picked this up at the denver comic con. i haven't really built any of these since i was a kid but i had a lot of fun doing it. took me something like 35 hours and my fingers hurt from it but im pretty happy with it. probably buy more models in the future but probably not another PG, this was way more work then i thought it would be.

i dont post in /m/ but i dont know where else to talk about it.

Because this is the first time in two years that I'm actually trying to be a responsible adult and while I am starting to feel the sting of loneliness again I don't trust myself to have a good meaningful relationship while doing things to better myself. I also have trust and abandonment issues with woman after my ex broke up with me two years ago and my mom moved to fucking Alaska 6 months before. Also I usually go for girls that want nothing to do with me or have boyfriends already because no one in this fucking city is single anymore.
>>

i may try that grey marker thing down the road.
>>
>>14386993
I kinda want to get some decals for my 1/100 scale Barbatos. Don't know about my 7 1/144's though, since they're all top coated already. I've not seen any decals for IBO kits yet, but they haven't made any MG's or anything. Hell, the Hi-Res model doesn't even come with decals. You'd have to use generics from other kits if you wanted them.

Personally, I think the Barbatos would look great with little warning signs and such here and there, but Bandai hasn't made any IBO decals yet, from what I know, so we'll just have to see if they provide.

Also, don't forget to sand down those safety nubs on the v-fin. Really makes the Barbatos' v-fin stand out, IMO.

>I'm looking around for a tutorial and can't find one specifically for this parts set.
>guys i need a tutorial specifically tailored to each and every item i purchase

Not sure if serious, but in the case you are I will say this:
You really need to learn to think for yourself. You will not find a pinning/gluing tutorial specifically for that set, nor will you ever. It would be an incredible waste of time, and completely pointless. That set is made of the same polystyrene as all the others, and the glue and tools are the same as well. Once you understand how the tools work, the same processes will apply across all kits made of the same materials.
If I see more posts like yours anon, I will just start ridiculing you.
>>
>>14387536
Samueldecal has tekkadan symbol decals. For the warning symbol stuff just grab a sheet from a gm or rx-78 or Nu. Thoses have tons of them on it.

I prefer the ground type, but that's just an opinion. Get the one you like the best.

The MG is old. Like, really old. It's fairly solid, but the core fighter and sundry can be temperamental. Articulation is somewhat limited compared to newer kits.

The best kit for your money is the RG, no two ways about it. If you've got the cash to burn and some space needs filling, the PG is great.

The RG MKII is the best of all the RG so with the conversion kit you retain that solid feeling of the construction while beefing up the kit a bit with the larger legs, chest, and much larger head (it comes with two different barzam heads). The rifle addition is kinda meh but I added it for completion sake. Favorite part is the crotch beam cannon. It's glue heavy in attachment as at least mine wasn't super tight fitting on the existing parts/frame. I didn't really like how the cockpit moving parts were designed, which kept opening so I glued it shut. 8/10 IMO

any tips for how I can go about seam welding this piece?

It's a nasty seam right down the middle, all the way around the canon. on top of that, I have to fit a polycap in there as well.

I've never gone for a seam quite like this.
>>
>>14391142
have a chisel ready so when you seam weld it, you can clean the other surfaces that sand paper cant reach
>>
>>14391142
You can try welding it inch-by-inch.

Or just weld it all at once, then fill up any defective spots.
>>

any suggestions for what I should do about the poly cap? Should I try to wrap it up with some masking tape and then peel it off after the painting is all said and done?

Doesn't seem close enough to affect the polycap. Besides styrene cement doesn't affect PE plastic

>>
What do Bandai's hideous water decals adhere best to, bare plastic or a gloss coat? I'm planning on actually managing to get all the decals onto my VF-31J kit before some of them scrape off this time, and I'm kind of looking for advice.

On my VF-25 Armored and VF-25 Tornado, I used water decals on bare plastic, and didn't get from one end of the model to the other before some of them scraped off from just handling. This time, I'm thinking I'll clear coat each individual outer armor piece, decal them, then clear coat again, before assembly.

Painting is not really in the cards since color matching is a pain in the ass (great, let's use blue decals on white for half of it, and white decals on blue for the other, so you *have* to match the blue paint somehow)...

You can just do the glue trick or it you're feeling lazy or not wanting to do something so permanent feeling just tear off a small piece of paper and put it in between the parts to add a slim amount of thickness and some decent friction.

Don't worry too much about it, I actually didn't know or notice this until someone pointed it out to me about a month ago in these threads. If you only have nippers just be VERY careful, but sand paper is probably your best bet. If you're in America, Testors sells a cheap good set of like 5 sheets of differing grits for like $3-$5 I think? I find them at Michael's or Hobby Works, so they're not that hard to find.

>>14394341
>>14394361
Yeah, that's what I believe I was working with, but I do not recall. It just wasn't too good and ended up scratching it mostly I think.
>>
>>14394361
>>14394380
I find that 600 grit works well after trimming the nubs with an xacto knife, and I'll smother it out a bit more after with 1000 grit
>>
>>14394361
You're meant to start low and as you progress move to finer grits to mediate potential damage.
Start with a nipper with a cut far from the piece, then make a second cut closer (but not flush to) the piece.
Remove most of the nub with your xacto knife
Remove the protrusion with your "low" grit 500-1000
Smooth the mark with your medium grit 1500
Finish the part with your high grit 2000+
Done correctly you should have negligible mark left on your piece, while also removing the nub in its entirety with no deformation
>>

Do you enjoy scratched plastic? Pic related, it's something like 150 grit vs 600 grit

>>14394444
>Why do you cut away from the piece?
Cutting away from the piece puts less stress on
>>
>>14394444
Yep. If you cut it flush you could put strain on the plastic or gouge out a piece, and you'd have to fill it in with putty/surfacer later.

Though if you're gonna be painting, discolored marks are largely unimportant, since you're just gonna cover it all up anyway.

>>14394414
No, but the few of you who think that are fucking dumb.

No. The manga was good but I don't want Sunrise to spend several Unicorn amounts of time to animate it instead of focusing on something original. Even in an ideal world I'd rather not have two versions of the same event. It's best to just move on from the OYW.

I don't know about everyone else's experience, but the plastic seems more susceptible to warping (though not like the clear parts which just shatter), and also scratches can be a bitch. The falling pound means that it will be more expensive for British retailers to import from Japan, but cheaper for non Brits to buy from British retailers.

Regardless, the pound will rebound. Within a week it will be stable at slightly below where it was; after 2 months it will be back to normal and in 2 years it'll be well ahead of the euro (not sure where it'll be in relation to the yen).

It's a custom kit, it doesn't really matter. There was a reason for it being left on and that's fine. It's not supposed to be there on the base design though. That's all there is to it.
>>
>>14396055
I don't get it. Do people prime all the pieces, then fully assemble the kit just to get a photos of it all in primer? Or is there an actual reason for this?

I do really think that a kit in primer like that looks pretty bad ass though.

As a proud owner of exactly zero RX-78-2 kits, I say the Origin. It has actual torso articulation, and doesn't look like it'll fall apart if you lift it by the top.

Well, shit. The yen appreciating relative to the dollar, combined with PayPal giving a lower exchange rate than the market as a service fee, means that $1 < 100円 at the moment. I just wish this http://hlj.com/product/HBJMAG1608 was released before Brexit since it's the last plamo I intend to purchase for a while unless Bandai suddenly reprints the GM 2.0..

Replying to myself to ask, how much do these orders usually cost you guys?
Its went through with the shipping for me and its 19425 yen, which is £147

Hoping these will last me a while since im gonna abstain from spending for a while
>>
>>14397727
The pound just died, and the only way you can ship all 3 together is with EMS and you're gonna get custom tax'd to hell and back with that.

Throw 'em in your private warehouse until the pound gets a bit better, and split them into SAL shipping orders. That'll save you some cash.
>>
>>14397753
It says my order is processing and it cant be edited
Am I fucked? Or will I be able to cancel so I can put them in the warehouse?

Just finished my Jesta, got a few more decals to put on him, but he's pretty much done. I really love this kit, but I think my backpack/neck connection is a bit loose. Only real complaint with it really. It's like I stare at it wrong, and the backpack/head just falls off. Anyone else see that?

Are 38 and 37 just supposed to be alternative stickers for the eyes?
>>
>>14398591

Dunno about the Jesta in particular, but some MG kits can get really strange. My MG Unicorn OVA for example can't retain the beam sabers on the backpack - the pegs are too small so the beam sabers will fall off at the slightest provocation. And my MG Exia's GN Sword decided after I took it apart to paint the blade parts that it doesn't want to stay either folded or straight - I may need to put some paint or clear coat on the pivot.

Maybe I'll do that next year...nah, it can wait a little longer.

What's the difference between RX 78 2 ORIGIN and RX 78 2 3.0
>>
>>14398714
Origin is based off the design of the RX-78-02 from the The Origins manga, 3.0 is based off the 1:1 statue which is a "more realistic" take on the RX-78-2
>>
>>14398734
doesn't that just mean mostly decal and waterslide differences then?

I'm trying to decide between MG freedom 2.0, force, impulse RX 78 origin or Amazing red warrior

>>
>>14398714

What >>14398734 said, but slightly more detailed:

The Origin version of the RX-78-2 doesn't have a core fighter, so instead of having to deal with a functioning core block that severely hampers mobility in the torso, the inner frame of the Origin kit has something like six hinges or so to let it bend every which way you want. Also, IIRC the Origin inner frame is 100% polystyrene, as opposed to part ABS like most other kits, which means it's easier to paint or glue if you need to.
>>
>hi nu ver ka is shorter than nu ver ka

Why is this allowed?
>>
>>14398676
Someone mentioned this before, but they're for if you paint the black part around the eyes, so you can just put stickers on the eye parts, since the eyes protrude a little, making the flat sticker a little non-secure.

>>14398679
I guess it's just mine acting funny then. I mean it holds, but if I accidentally push the head the wrong way, or mess with the shield too much (since the connections for the shield arm are really tight, it just slides off like nothing is holding it down. Oh well.
>>
Exia Darkmatter or amazing red warrior?

Which one is the better MG?

So semi-new question, why is red paint so terrible to hand paint with? multiple coats there's still dapples and unevenness. Tamiya acrylics pretty heavily thinned if it helps.

Why the Hi-Nu is smaller while it looks buffer, I have no idea. Except for the idea that it has a better David and Goliath dynamic with the Nightingale.

Tamiya acrylics aren't the best to handpaint with anyway, I learned this the hard way. Look for some Vallejo if you can.

I read in a marketing textbook that Millennials love random and unrelated happenings, which is why you see quirky and unrelated advertising on TV with respect to the product being advertised.
