Yes, very. It's a shame we never got 5 as it's the pinnacle of the series and one of the best /m/ games out there. Thankfully there's a fan translation that's complete, though their site is no longer around so it's harder to track down. They also did a translation for 2 that is complete, except they couldn't replace about 20% off the dialogue text so they released the patch with a PDF file that has all the untranslated text available in English for that portion of the game.

Unfortunately nobody translated the DS side-story titles, and most of the manga and non-videogame material is untranslated as well. The whole Front Mission franchise spans multiple forms of media but will probably never all be available in English.

Also Evolved is trash and has no relation to the rest of the franchise and frankly should never have been conceived.
>>
i wish someone continued the manga translation

Still wonder how Roid become bad guy in FM2?
>>
>>14365965
>Unfortunately nobody translated the DS side-story titles

I thought it was just a remake of FM1
>>
>>14365965
This guy was an asshole. His friend and the hacker girl where the best characters.
>>
>>14365965
Kazuki's character is kinda out of place for a gritty war setting like FM
>>
>>14366397
Somehow Lloyd reminds me of Christopher Hawken from Dogs of War
>>
>>14366397
After Karen died, you can see he's going towards a very dark path, sorta like a dead man walking. This was toned down in the DS translation, but at least once they mention Royd's death wish: when you fight the old man in the Arena, he'll talk about how Royd completely disregards anything about safety, and is probably looking for a place to die.

>>14366417
IIRC, they're stories set before and during FM1.
>>
>>14366428

I didn't think he was out of place considering the context of his own personal story.
>>
>>14366425
>His friend
You're not saying that because of his characterization, you're just saying that because of ROFUP1
>>
>>14366448
Throughout the story of FM1 Lloyd had a chance to start new life yet for some reason throws it away

just wonder how he looks like in FM 2089?
>>
>>14366461
this guy gets it.
>>
>>
>>14366461
Ryogo basically murders everyone with his Machinegun in my Emma campaign

what is his best skill setup?
>>
>>14366510

ROFUP1 stacked with itself 6 times
>>
>>14366397

IIRC, Angelo discovered that he when visited the OCU, he got arrested for things he did in the Second Huffman War. Morgan Bernard, leader of anti-globalist terror organization Grimnir sprang Lloyd out, and got him a job in Grimnir, which Lloyd accepted.
>>
>>14365938
Personally i think FM is one of the few series apart from MGS that made some decent /m/ series based on Real World while mixing it with some complex series without actually screwing up
>>
It's a shame, because its my favorite /m/ video game series but it gets so little love. So much untranslated work, so many games we'll never get in the west, and it's dead as fuck as a franchise in general.
>>
>>14365938
I was thinking to pick up there games, but also I am quite wary of problems that can arise while doing the "right" things in this kind of game after I burned my hands in Final Fantasy Tactics(no motivation to pick it back after getting my ass handed in stage 4)

So /m/,do these games are walkthough and grind heavy ?

>>
>>14366838

Wanderung
>>
>>14365938
Incredibly so.
3 and 5 have the best production value.
1 and 2 have the grittiest mecha war stories.
4 has the best over all waifu collection.
>>
>>14365965
I'm still trying to figure out how to patch the rts Front Mission Alternative.
>>14366417
It's actually more of a remake of FM:First on the PSX, which has some minor tweaks to the SNES original and adds the second storyline (for Kevin Greenfield and the USN)
>>14366838
It's supposed to be a German portmanteau that just literally means "walking tank"
>>
>>14366510
ROFUP1, Tackle1 and ShieldBash are the only skills you'll ever need.
>>
>>14368181
But which one is the best GAME?
>>
>>14368536
2 and 3 are the same game
1 is the most original front mission
4 and 5 are the same game mechanically
>>
>>14368564
>2 and 3 are the same game
Elaborate, please
>>
>>14368564
>1 is the most original front mission

does that mean it's the best?
>>
>>14369085
No.
>>
>>14368564
>>14369085
>1 is the most original front mission

Except all of the best gameplay decisions came from 2 and beyond. The first one plays like a standard SRPG, just with customizable robots. You have to be adjacent to enemy units for any weapon you use. It wasn't until after 1 that they started adding ranged weapons actually being used at range, more special abilities, and then in 4 and 5 linked attacks and combos.

It's just one of those series that each game is better than it's predecessors.
>>
Front Mission 1 is fun at first, but after the half-way point it becomes a rather unbearable slog because you've already explored all the most interesting gameplay mechanics by that point, and nothing new or all that interesting happens. Just more repetitive battles.
>>
>>14369296
Front Mission 1 is fun the whole way through despite being an inferior game to 2.
>>
>>14369274
>It's just one of those series that each game is better than it's predecessors.
You really think 4 is better than 3? Have I just got my nostalgia-goggles on for 3 because it was the first one that I played?
>>
>>14369573

You don't remember Kazuki very well
>>
>>14369573
3's biggest problem is that one of the routes is practically srw-level easy, and the other still isn't as hard as the other games.
>>
>>14369618
But the repair pack seemed like it made everything in 4 a cakewalk.

What's the difference between the DS port of FM1 and the SNES version?
>>
>>14369655
3 is tackle1/ROFUP1+shield in the other hand:the game, no need for any actual strategy.
>>
>>14369676

We actually got the DS version
>>
Fuck yes! I love me some Front Mission! As for mech games, nothing holds a candle to the Armored Core series or the ORIGINAL Steel Battalion; I still have mine, that code to unlock all mech gens and shit is pretty ridiculous.

Also, a question: Does the PS4 release of Hawken have offline bots or offline/local/solo multiplayer? NEED THAT NAO!!!
>>
>>14369676
The DS version has the UCS scenario (originally from the PSX version), and a few characters from other FM titles appear on it as cameos, mainly Glenn (FM5).

There's also a few extra missions, and you can control the Mobile Platforms you capture (I think that's their name?).
>>
>>14369676
The DS version has based Lorenzo and some playable bosses

Okay cool. I'll grab it in a bit.
>>
Wonder what is the standard formation for a team of wanzers, 4 or 5 men? Are they tanks or mechanized infantry?
>>
>>14369961

Well in 3's case they never let you have more than 4.

Tanks are still extremely dangerous to wanzers, so despite the name they're more like infantry. Plus they're not very big, can't really afford to be or they won't fit on a truck.
>>
>>14369970
So they would likely employ tactics and roles that mimic infantry
>>
>>14366625
>14366625

there was a rumor that one of the guys who did AC was hired by square and they are working on a new one
>>
>>14369681
does those melee skills works with gunner build?
>>
>>14370013
It was their lead, wasn't it? Heres a link to an article about it.
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/front-mission-being-revived-at-square-enix-report/1100-6427922/
>>
>>14370227
Not that I recall. You can only use tackle with a melee attack, so you could have one arm as melee, though I also recall there being restrictions on what you could have equipped for certain skills
>>
>>14369296
>>14369554
I'd say the engaging story kept it fresh for me. I've only played the DS version of 1, 2, and 3 and I have to say that 3's story is a bit boring in comparison to the other two.
>>
Front Mission main selling point is always about its complex storyline captured as gritty war drama

I don't know if the series can go on without tsuchida but i guess if the people behind AC series did the work at least we will still retain the gray morality part
>>
FM5 is grindy as fuck, all the good stuff is behind lots of dull arena training. Also blocking upgrade points behind conversations was a dick move, talking to everyone in the map was dumb.
>>
>>14370371
I love finding the upgrade points and talking to everyone, the writing has been pretty good so far. I always try to talk to everyone in games though, I wish you could get them in different ways for people like you.
>>
>>14370371
I enjoyed FM4, but I couldn't get into 5. There's no good way to make money, and the survival sim is absurd.
>>
>>14366828
>So /m/,do these games are walkthough and grind heavy ?

Yes.
Now fuck off,noob.
>>
>>14370988
Beat the survival sim 5 times, stop being a pussy, thing is you don't need the arena or the SS to beat the game even on Hard you can do everything with shop bought parts.
>>
>>14370371
All the good stuff is locked beyond floor 50 of the survival sim and for good reason.
>>
>>14366828
For 1 get "aim" skill and make MC a beast so that he can single handly sweep the stage

For 2, focus on pilot's inheret skills.

3 is quite easy.

Can't help you at 4 and 5 since my toaster can't do ps2 emulation.
>>
Is front mission 2 in full english somewhere?
>>
>>14372482
No.
>>
Lloyd from FM1 is a pretty good showcase how a man driven to madness on his quest of revenge

don't think he really find his peace after beating Driscoll
>>
>>14374609

He never did. I wish I could elaborate again, but Angelo went off the grid.
>>
if I'm new to the series, should I play all of them?
>>
>>14376745
Odds are you won't play 2
>>
>>14369573
4 is much better than 3. The voice acting is shit, but the rest is far better.
>>
>>14365938
Shiiit, speaking of 5 is frontmission.info still around? If not is the patch still floating around on torrents or something? ;_;
>>
>>14376879
>The voice acting is shit
Elsa was cute af
>>
>>14377105
Nope, it's dead. Life sucks.
>>
>>14377105

try this. Im not sure if it works, but i remember I downloaded from a similar site a year ago.
>>
>>14377141
Dang

>>14377200
Thanks, I'll give it a look
>>
i wish the series got good wiki for it, it is such a shame for having the info dumps difficult to find
>>
>>14377674
Most of the game verse knowledge died when Angelo and his crew left the building and their site died.
>>
>>14366511
>>14366461
Yeah this is pretty much the optimal setup.
>>
>>14367247
Too bad we'll never get it, as long as we're outside Japan
>>
>>14391051
Good thing there's a complete English translation
>>
>>14391240
>complete
What about the intro video?
